aaah money i'm in!

1 - use the latest version of NeoGenesis from Xbins!!!
(go there and check what the latest is if you're not sure)

2 - there are 2 versions of nighttrap a normal sega cd version and an upgraded version that used the 32X addon for higher quality video.
solution : try another sega cd iso like sonicCD or something,
if it works then you are trying to run the wrong version of nighttrap
since those special "32X-SegaCD's" are not emulated as of now.

3 - if #2 didnt work we can always try a clean install, to do this remove the emulator dir and the savegame of it,
savegame can be deleted by either booting up the original MSdash and removing neogenesis from the savegame menu or FTP'ing into your xbox and delete E:\Saves\Neogenesis
also the Dashboard UnleashX supports savegame removal so if you have that use that.
if you cant ftp into your xbox try using a filebrowser, there are a couple but i prefer the build in Filebrowser of UnleashX
edit : just read you are running the emu from disc, in that case only remove the savegame from the HD.

4 - make sure the iso is not zipped/rarred/7zipped/aced or any other kind of compression.

5 - is it really an iso or something else like bin/cue or mdf or ccd?

6 - try putting the emulator on your HD, the emulator isnt that big so just copy it to your hd and run it,
then try loading the sega cd iso from your dvd.
make sure you have removed the savegame from the emu before trying this,
we want to make sure you are running a nice clean untouched emu.

Thanks! I will try these things as soon as possible (today) but if I'm going to have to put the emu on the hd then I will have to go to a friends place to do so so it may take a few days. Will let you know if it worked --> reward ;-)

Right now the only way to run Night Trap (32x) is with Kega Fusion. It's just as user friendly as Gens, anyway, and a lot more powerful.

Oh, and as for the games on DVD, it seems to be some kind of bug in the Xport engine, because it's also present in HugoX. If you load TG16 CD ISO's from the favorites folder when you load the emulator from the DVD drive, it freezes just like NeoGenesis. You can manually search the ISO/Cue out from select game, and as I stated before, it works fine.

...and, as before, it doesn't happen when everything's on the hard drive. Hmm...

So with what emulator does this work?

Also, what do you mean with "TG16"?

Keep in mind that night trap IS NOT PLAYABLE AT ALL.  It is not a 32x or sega cd game, it is one of the few dual 32x/sega cd games.  These games ARE NOT PLAYABLE ON NEOGENESIS.  If u are testing all these procedures with night trap its not gonna work.....

so you are calling me a liar? i just said that there are 2 different versions of night trap,
yet you still reply and claim otherwise.

Normal SegaCD version      and           the 32X-SegaCD version.

so yeah night trap is not so unplayable afterall.

well now that i've written this i will go back to my real sega cd
and play a nice game of night trap, the non 32X-CD version.

I know this is a really old thread but I just ran into this problem and discovered the thread with no solution so I thought I would contribute that I solved it by making sure VP Overclocking was off. ISO images of Sega CDs would freeze with a dark Sega CD loading screen (the space scene, no animation) when CPU Overclocking (AKA Toggle CPU Speed) was set to on.
