Xbmc Won't Play Divx Movies

I installed XBMC PRE 2.1, compiled Mar-23 2008. It plays all video formats, even .avi files, but not divx movies. it just freezes.
I tried setting cache to 0. deleted myvideos.db file. I tried to pley them from the hhdd, or streaming using SMB. movie with subtitles and without them. nothing works.

I played divx movies with no problems using XBMC 1.0.

any clues ? thanks in advance.
