A Useful Feature/tweak Request
« on: March 13, 2008, 04:35:00 PM »

Having music archived (lots of) and in a database is great.

But searching could be a little nicer.

With a collection in the many thousands, when I hit search in Library Mode, xbmc tries to search every time you enter a letter,  so if you're looking for a song with a long name,  everytime after each letter you hit on the qwerty box, it's trying to search.  (it's frustrating to wait some seconds after every single letter you add).

(if I haven't described it too clearly, think of the way winamp search function works).

It would be much nicer if you could enter your search string, then hit OK. And only at that point does xbmc run the search.

Anyone think similar?

A couple of points:

1.  It only does a full word search (i.e. slow) if you have more than 3 letters, else it just does first word searching.

2.  There's a delay before it searches of a few seconds - perhaps said delay is not enough?

3.  How much is "many thousands" exactly?

If you build yourself, try checking out the CGUIDialogKeyboard.cpp stuff for where it sends the search messages off - there'll be some timers in there that may possibly need tweaking.  They're probably #define'd at the top somewhere.

Cheers,
