Did My Friend Get Duped?
« on: January 21, 2004, 09:27:00 AM »

My buddy went looking for the kill switch mod chips for his Xbox and the store owner told him he had the latest chip that allows you to go on Live without the switch. He said all my buddy had to do was hit the eject button, put the game in and then close it in order to not be detected.

Well, he forgot to do that and instead hit the power button to go on Live and is now blocked.

I was wondering if this chip really exists or not and if maybe the store onwer just BSd him in order to sell the chip.

Thanks and I apologize if I posted on the wrong board as I am new here.

Mr. Atticus Finch?  Is that from to Kill a Mockingbird?  Just curious.  I do believe that this chip exists but I can't think of the name off-hand.

Yes that is the right book. So you think this chip does in fact exist and that my friend is the one that screwed up by booting up the wrong way and going on Live?

ya called a matrix.  the pressing of the eject button disables the chip and boots to the ms bios.  If he got on live with the chip on then its his fault he is banned, not the guy who hooked him up.  There are other chips that can do this, but im sure its a matrix.

My buddy has contacted the store owner and he told him to bring in his Xbox and that he'd swap the motherboard with another one. Would this work?

If he didn't want to solder in a modchip, do you think he'd want to screw around with an eeprom?

if you replace the mobo, you would also need to unlock and relock the drive

getting a new eeprom is easier

and flashing the eeprom is no where near as hard as soldering on a modchip

Hoppy is correct in that my buddy really wouldn't know how to do the EEPROM thing so I guess going back to the guy for a new motherboard would be the best thing if indeed this works.
