The 42 character filename limit is a joke. Everything should be done to get around it. For example, with music files, there should be an option to display based on ID3 tag info and NOT filename. With that, your music could all be named anything and still show a perfectly legal long name without the file extension. Very clean, very easy and solves a big problem. I don't play video on mine but don't the video formats have the same type of tagging?
