Just to troubleshoot have you tried hooking up a wire to your Xbox from your router to see if that would work?

Yep...and also, I did something really wrong the first time, but it still isn't working.  The first time around, I apparently confused the two IP's, setting my nic to 192.168.0.3 and my xbox to 192.168.0.2.  So I was actually pinging myself and not my xbox =_= Anyway, I corrected this, but I'm now in an even worse spot: can't even ping the xbox.  Of course, I immediately ran back to the tutorial, and tried all the stuff mentioned there, but it just doesn't seem to want to work.
