obviously, then you use stright cable.
and then you should set your xbox's network settings to DHCP.
this will make your router automaticly give your xbox an ip.

then, connect to that ip.
your dashboard should tell you your ip

Sometimes you can use a cross over cable.....  this is NOT common practice but remember something about my d-link router being able to auto detect this. Im pretty sure my linksys does not. I ended taking the d-link back because cave me nothing but trouble
