How To Flash Aladdin
« on: February 07, 2006, 12:36:00 PM »

Yo people I need some help,

The other day I bought I bigger harddrive (250GB). My bios doesn`t see all 250 GB`s only 130 or so. I have an Aladdin chip which is soldered in januari 2003. So my bios probably doesn`t have the LBA48 Patch. Now I think I need to flash it but how?

XBOX MEDIA CENTER says:

V1.1 XBOX
SST 49LF020
Bios:          Evox D6

I opend my xbox so I could see what kind of chip it has. I saw that it was an Aladdin.

So can you help me? or do you need some more information

Thanks in forward.

find out if that chip is flashable because of it's age

Pick a bios thats 256k
flash with evolutionX dashboard (menu option) it's easy.

you might have to edit the bios once you find one using an apropriate tool; XBtool/EVtool/X2ool/iND-bios config maker etc.

Heres what I did to flash my aladdin. Get the X2 4981.06 from usual places. Open it in xbtool and edit it for LBA48 support. Since you have 250gb HD I would have the F partition take all. Once your finished editing, just ftp it to C:\bios and flash.

Okey I found an 4981.06 bios, its from the slayers disk. and its named -> 4981.06_FC_evox_256k is that good enough?

I opend it with XBtool:
LBA support is on and it says partition 6 takes restof drive

so that must be good to i guess.

now should i put it in C:\  and rename the 4981.06  to bios?

OR

do i have to put it in C:\bios and leave the 4981.06 name untouched?

Now how to flash?

Thanks

you can use evolutionx to flash. it's an easy menu option in settings.

it doesn't matter if you rename it.

just a note: 4981.06 that 06 means partition 6 takes the rest. 4981.67 the .67 means partition 6 take 137
and partition 7 takes the rest.

Okey, I tryed it  with evolutionx under the option flash, I selected the bios file and pressed ok.

Now the only thing it said was->
                                                SST 49LF020
                                                Ereasing

then nothing happend, I waited 15 minutes and turned it off.
After a restart it still had the old bios.

Don`t know what to do next

Use HackDaBox's flasher disk or the Sundayflasher will do the job. (Hack's one is recommended for the first try (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)) Or you should give a try to Raincoat, any of these is superb compared to Evox's internal flasher.

Evox is known for its unstable flashing routines, especially when dealing SST chips.

If evox has unreliable flashing routines logically hack's disk does too since it's just evox. Try xflash for sst49lf020 from the usual places. It has the same flash with verify routines added.

Hanging during flashing with evox is very common on the old Aladdin chips.
As suggested use XFlash V2 (For SST49lF020A)

Hold the power on button in for 5 seconds when you power on to allow for flashing on the Aladdin.

Well,

I tryed flashing with the Xflash V2 and this is what happend:

Build 2 for the SST49LF020

Last chance to abort. Flash Erase will begin after you press <start>

Checking flash ID
Flash manufacturer = bf
Flash Device code = 61

Starting Erase Cycle, takes 5-10 seconds
Starting Programming
Aborting ProgramDevice(). Flash verify failure at adress ff00007d
Aborting ProgramDevice(). Wrote 14, Read 0d

Programming Failed!!!

Finished, press <start> to begin again!!!

I all so tryed pushing the power butten 5 seconds but the same happend.

What now?

If your lattice chip is a 4064 you have to wire BT to L1. I also took D0 from the Xbox and grounded it. I did this for a write/always on install.
