Western Digital Hardrive Lock
« on: March 08, 2006, 11:16:00 PM »

I know this sounds really, really stupid but I was working on taking a 40.5Gig Western Digital Hadrive and turning it into a xbox hardrive.... Well I got the ISO part for the CD done and everything but I kind of locked the hardrive as the first thing I did and I put in a manual password as 7039west  well now I can't unlock it I tried going to option 4 (FreeDOS) and it keeps comeing up with an error If I go to 3 (Linux) and type in unlockhd -p 7039west it does not work.... What I need to know is if anyone can help me.

I looked online for all kinds of cracking programs and online Tut and read some stuff on xbox-Scene and none I could realy find that helped me out. So If someone could help me out and post and reply or E-mail me I would really like that. Thanks.

I used option 4 FreeDOS to lock it but.....

This is what I tried now.
I go to option 4 on the main screen (FreeDOS) and it comes up with Initdisk then it waits a few secounds and says InitDiskError reading partition table drive 00 sector 0

Now If I choose option 3 on the main menu (Linux unlock/lock)
it says try unlockhd or lockhd I try to unlock with the password unlockhd -p 7039west and it just says that that can't be a correct password with not correct variables or something. If I try to lock it it says it's already locked and so on.

If I boot into the main linux (default) and go to the options and try to Build a new Xbox HD from scratch it says disabled and not a correct choice or something like that.

**
Should I reburn the ISO on the CD and see if the FreeDOS will work?

Apologies if this isn’t relevant, but I stumbled across this page yesterday.  It covers unlocking a specific WD HDD, but the WD master password may be standard.

Xbox Hard Drive Unlocking Solutions.

Xboxhdm sets the master password to XBOXSCENE everytime you use it. Try using that to unlock it.

Never tried the ATAPWD (hope I never have to though).
Remember that your problem also is how to boot up in DOS; The XBOXHD tools don't allow proper booting into DOS when the HD is locked, neither does a MSDOS boot floppy - you'll get read errors which take ages to bypass.
I solved this by downloading the POWERMAX utility from the Maxtor site.
http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/m...ondMax%20Family
Using the powermax utililty is pointless but the install creates a cunning bootdisk bypassing the locked HD read errors quite quick.  Put the DOS hdlock.exe, hdunluck.exe and hddisabl.exe tools from #XBINS on this floppy.

I've always been able to boot a dos floppy to unlock a hdd..  Dunno why yours bugs out.. Maybe bios..   In anycase, if atapwd doesn't unlock it with XBOXSCENE since you actually locked using a physical dos floppy, it can't hurt to try unlockhd -p 7039west00000000000000000000000000000000 (32 )'s..  Some locking tools were coded to only write 40 char pwd's apparently since that is all xbox accepts..
