Rod Fixed Than Broke
« on: May 09, 2008, 08:09:00 PM »

So my xbox got 3rod and i fixed it 1 week ago today.

i cleaned the thermal glue off and put some artic silver on and used some bolts instead of the Xclamp (straight bolts and washers)

Overheated the console for 2 mins and everything went well.

for the past 3 days i did not use my console.

Today i decided to do that last misson in gta4-beat it-FROZE!

Rebooted and froze instantly. A/V both.

Rebooted and had about 5 mins of smooth xbox dashboard. than Froze

rebooted with hd plugged in and got a hd error code and noticed i didnt have it plugged in all the way.

Rebooted and 3ROD!

So i took my 360 all apart, removed the heatsinks, blew it with some air. i than noticed the thermal glue was still wet and applied a little more

put on the bolts back on.

now i let it over heat for 2 mins... still rod

now i push on diff parts of the heatsinks and reboot... Still RoD

now i push buttons on my keyboard because i am totally clueless...

Also i have no idea wtf is going on anymore...

And i do not know the error code

First remove the thermal compound you used way too much.
Use the size of a rice grain for the big chip dies and about the half for the smaller one on the GPU.
The finer the layer of thermal compound is the better it conducts the heat.
Then tighten the screws a bit and if it still doesnt work get the secondary error code...

fixxed it. loosend up the GPU heatsink. got them all to tight enough to hold the heatsink firmly and put in about 1 full turn on each screw on the gpu only and i have been playing gta for about 30 mins no problems

He got 0102 mate.
This one definitely is a cold/bridged/cracked solder joint below the GPU.
The only thing that is going to fix it is the X-Clamp fix or other GPU related fixes...
