Title: Samsung Dvdrom Drive Problem
Post by: BlueThorn on January 26, 2004, 04:42:00 AM
I only use my dvdrom to make backups of originals, which is very rare. I play all my games from the Hard Drive.
For some reason yesterday afternoon, my samsung drive decided it didnt want to open anymore. It has worked fine for so far. I took it apart and I cant see anything that looks worn out or out of place.
If I push back the emergency eject arm, the drive will pull out manually with no problems. When the drive it out and I hit the eject/retract button it will pull the drive back in.
Drive still works fine, will still read games. It just wont open on its own anymore. I cant hear anything catching or getting jammed when I hit the eject button.

Has anyone else had this problem and was able to fix it?
Thanx for your time.

Same thing seems to be happening to my friends Xbox. Only when he turns his on, it sounds like a jet is taking off.

Its not doing that one mine, there isnt any sound except for the laser lens coming up and down on its ramp. Its wierd, it just doesent want to open, I cant see anything holding on to it since it slides out just fine with the emergency eject arm pressed in, and it will slide back in on its own if I press the open close button.

Any ideas anyone?

hey, i'm having exactly the same problem- it was working last night!!!!
i havent even touched my xbox !

i tried using the eject program you can dl from the x-s tools page (i think)
but that doesnt work either

i can boot the M$ dash fine, but still cant eject

this leads me to believe its hardware related, so i'm off to break out the torx bits AGAIN!!

damn i wanna play LIVE!!

if anyone can give us a shove in the right direction, then please do!

Its a Samsung you will just have to live with it. My 4 mates with Samsungs all have the same problem. The drive eject mechenism is just so badly designed.

There is no way of fixing them, the only way to get the drive to open is to keep tapping the tray after you have pressed eject.

Hi
I have been playing with a 605b and noticed that the tray will not open some times if the magnetic disc claming does not release. Tapping the drive on top of the drive soon after hitting the eject button generally releases the disc claming mechanism.
Ther problem is either the magnetic clamp is too strong or head retraction is no longer strong enough to part the magnetic clamp.
Cheers

Hey guys...

My Philips DVD drive started doing this too.  It was 100% perfect, then yesterday if stopped ejecting.  I opened the whole thing up and everything looks good.  The DVD tray is on track and nothing is too dusty or gunked up.  PGP2 did an update, then this started happening.

Is it a BIOS thing?  The hardware seems fine, so I think it might be software based.

Anyone have any info on that?  Could a BIOS or some update fix this "DVD tray refuses to open" issue.

oh, and bump.
