There are a lot more I would like to have, but I don't have the time. Hopefully, people can make some more and post links to the WMVs in this thread.
Here are 45 previews I made.
http://www.mediafire.com/?14njbsc3z19
I cannot host xmv movies, but these are the WMV versions. To convert:
1) Put them in the ZsnexBox\videos folder
2) Install wm8eutil_setup.exe
3) Double click "run.bat". This will convert all the WMV files to XMV
4) Delete the WMV files and rename the XMV files to match the ROM names.
The previews are:
Axelay
Dracula X
Combatribes
Contra III
Darius Twin
Donkey Kong Country 2
Donkey Kong Country 3
Earthworm Jim
Earthworm Jim 2
Final Fantasy II
Final Fight
Final Fight 2
Final Fight 3
Final Fight Guy
Flashback
F-Zero
Gradius III
Killer Instinct
Megaman X
Megaman X2
Megaman X3
Mortal Kombat 3
Mortal Kombat II
Pilotwings
Rock N' Roll Racing
Rockateer
Samurai Showdown
Star Fox
Street Fighter 2
Sunset Riders
Super Castlevania IV
Super Earth Defense Force
Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts
Super Mario All-Stars
Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario World
Super Punch-Out
Super R-Type
Super Smash TV
Super Soccer
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Tournament Fighters
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV - Turtles in Time
U.N. Squadron
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

The converter used was missing a dll. I have updated ZsnexBox 3.4 with a different converter. I have also changed the batch file.
Put them in the ZsnexBox\videos folder
Double click "run.bat". This will convert all the WMV files to XMV
Delete the WMV files and rename the XMV files to match the ROM names.
-
hey Nes, what programs did you use to make those preview videos? or was this covered in a read me, I have not yet downloaded this.
-
Thanks again for those wmv's I noticed alot of them are the intro levels what Im gonna try and do is Im gonna try to make some xmvs of my favorite snes games..what Im gonna try to do different is edit the wmv with highlights of the games/different levels/bosses..ect....dont expect this any time soon though..
hopefully other people will upload more too.....Im sure it took nes some time to do these..
-
You don't have to edit the WMVs. The ZMV can just be appended to in ZSNES. A user could create a ZMV of a boss in a game. The user could stop recording after the boss. The user could then append to the ZMV at some other point in the game. This way all the editing is done to the ZMV.
It doesn't take that long to make a preview. Once everything is setup, the entire process only takes a few minutes. For example:
Start the game in ZSNES and record a ZMV for 30 seconds.
ZSNES creates the movie from the ZMV in less than 30 seconds (it will create a merged.avi file)
Create a profile using the tutorial to convert an avi to WMV (1500 Kbps at 60 FPS). The profile would convert merged.avi to merged.wmv. After the merged.avi is created, this profile can be double clicked and it will start Windows Media Encoder with all the correct settings. The user only has to click the encode button to convert the merged.avi to merged.wmv.
The entire process would take two minutes in that example. The previews I made were only 15 seconds long, and since I just used intros, it only took me about a minute to make each one. I'm hoping some other people will make more.
-
I found This Tutorial to be quite helpful in making an AVI that WME is happy with. The filesize is significantly larger than the ones you did (11megs for 21seconds) which is the downside. But for me it seems to be the only option and I've got my emu's on their own 320gig so I'm happy to just be able to make some that don't error out. Really happy right now!

I believe a lot of the video work has been done already NES. A tracker I belong to has a large video collection of SNES videos. I'm not sure what format they are or what quality either though. Unfortunately, the tracker has been down for almost a week. I hope it's just some server issues or something. Of course I won't give any links in here to a tracker, and I won't even think about posting them here if they're in XMV format, but if I do manage to get this collection if the tracker comes back up I'll let you know.
Another alternative of course is to buy them... http://www.emumovies.com/ordering.html
I know I'm not going to sit down any time soon and make hundreds of videos if they're already done. I haven't given up on the tracker yet, but it might just be worth $40 bucks just to get it all done. We'll see what the future brings. They're all in .avi format there, so if you or I or somebody else bought them and shared them, it would be no different than sharing the files you put up here before.
EDIT: Screw it. I bought the DVD set and a lifetime membership to the ftp there. $45 with shipping.... I'll check out the SNES videos when I get access and let you know.
If this works, I'll have about 10,000 videos supposedly that could also be used as previews on other emulators if we ever get them working on XPorts emus.
Of course, if anybody else would like to show support to them over there afterwards, that's great. I can imagine the amount of work that it took to compile that collection. That's why it was worth $45 to me not to have to do it myself
(Although I'm sure I have tons of name cleaning up to do now..... grumble grumble....)

Hey NES, (or anybody who might know)
Is there a way to convert from .avi to the correct .wmv format in bulk?
I'm doing this one video at a time and at this rate it's going to take me a month to convert them. I don't mind if I can set it to convert and it takes a day or two, but I'm sick of having to be by my computer to start up each and every one.
BTW... the vids look great. They start showing gameplay and then at the end of each video they show the action up to the titlescreen. It's obvious that these guys did a lot of work.
-
Ok, I finaly got to use them (I had to "find" Windows somewhere
).
I noticed that some of the .xmv's have choppy sound when previewed in Zsnexbox. The sound is just fine in UnleashX though.
did something go wrong converting wmv to xmv?
-
yeah madmab. EmuMovies is the place. They're still here. I've got 702 SNES videos (in avi format). They're great too. It's apparent the amount of work that went into them.
Unfortunately, with a computer that is heading towards its second birthday, and the fact that I have to be sitting here to start every avi to wmv conversion is going to make progress take forever. WM Encoder is such a resource hog that I can't even type in excel or on the internet while it's doing a lot of its work, so it's really impossible for me to be doing any other XBox stuff while its doing its thing. It takes about 1 minute just to get the conversion started and another minute to do the conversion.
I'm wondering if there is anyway to make a batch program like NES provided to convert to xmv. There's got to be a better way to do this. One where I can just let it do its work for a day or two and I can come back to it when it's done.
-
well, let it run overnight...
also, you could only convert a few at a time, like, only copying all the ones starting with A, B and C and convert these, next time convert D,E and F etc.
edit: too bad the emumovies site does not have the SNES videos as torrent...
-
Yeah. Nice constructive reply....
As far as I know you can only do one file at a time. That's why I'm posting about it here. Can you think of a reason why I might post about it here if I was able to let it run overnight?
I tried doing it one file at a time too, but the severe lag it puts on the computer when you select one at a time is rediculous. When you put it on 50 files at a time it takes a few hours to finish after you select them, and then when you go to the output screen it starts wigging out like it always does, only this time it will take as long as it takes for 50 files. Not to mention that it only lets you put one file name at a time for output and there is no way to just convert a ton of files and use the source name.
I can't explain it any better. It's the biggest bitch of a program I've ever used. Next time you post a reply about it, try the program first and see what I'm talking about.
Anybody that knows... is there a way to write a dos batchfile that will convert multiple files with the correct settings like NES provided for converting to xmv? It takes forever in the GUI and I'll probably never finish it if I have to do all of them this way.
-
CODE
for /f "tokens=*" %%a IN ('dir /b ^"*.avi^"') do mencoder "%%a" -of lavf -lavfopts i_certify_that_my_video_stream_does_not_use_b_frames -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=wmv2:vbitrate=100 -vf scale=176:144 -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp3:abitrate=48 -o "%%~na.wmv"
This of course requires you to have mencoder in the same directory. Also, I could not test it, but it should do the trick.
EDIT2: also, there's bitrates and scaling options included. They of course need to be modified to reasonable values.
EDIT3: mencoder is part of the mplayer package: http://www.mplayerhq.hu
-
Thanks Horscht.
I'm not all that good with code myself though and wouldn't know what I was doing. I don't know how to get batch files to work with applications, I just know it can be done. Can somebody who's tried making videos give it a shot and see if you can get a batch type file to convert a folder full of videos on autopilot? I've got over 700 SNES vids that need converting.
Thanks,
~Rx

How about this program?
http://www.video-tool.com/
after a brief look it seemed to imply that the trial version was fully functional, although I may be wrong.
best of luck with this.

Hey Sotu,
We should get together on another thread and list what we have already. No sense in us doing double work. All of these videos I bought were awesome. They are about 30 seconds on average, and they start with an action sequence, fade to black, and then show the title sequence. I think they were probably made by splicing two videos together. These are way too awesome not to have on your rig man.
What pisses me off is that as good as they are, there are quite a few games that aren't covered in the set. The count of videos I believe is 702.
I would really love it if you would work on getting the games that I don't already have videos for sotu and we could combine them when we're done.
I'll even tell you where I'm at now... I've gotten part-way through the letter "C". Most of the games I have great vids for now, but these are the ones I'm missing so far. Maybe you could work on those and we could start a thread where the wmv files are made available (or better yet, the xmv files if the mods would allow it).
Here's the missing games through the letter B:
90 Minutes - European Prime Goal
Addams Family Values
Adventures of TinTin
Aguri Suzuki F-1 Super Driving
Alfred Chicken
All-American Championship Football
Arcade's Greatest Hits (Not the Atari one, I've got that)
Archer MacLean's Dropzone
Asterix & Obelix
Asterix
Ballz 3D
Bananas de Pijamas
Battle Clash
Bazooka Blitzkrieg
Big Sky Trooper
Blazing Skies
Brandish I
Brandish II
If you want to work with me, I'm sure we can get this done a lot faster. I'll get a list together of the videos I have so you're not wasting time working on ones that we've already got great versions of. I wasn't going to at first, but I'll probably replace the ones that NES did because these are so good, even though it's more work for me.
Oh... and that tracker I was talking about is back up. They have the same avi collection there that I have and the guy called "EmuMovies" actually thanked the guy for putting the set up there because the other tracker that he used wouldn't allow Nintendo or Playstation vids. So it looks like it's fine if I post them when we're done too.
Let me know what you think man.
EDIT: Tell you what Sotu. You get those missing wmv's to me for the letter A tonight and I'll put them together and make a new thread for releasing the videos. I'll put them all together in zipfiles on megaupload for everyone...... I don't want to do it until I have every game for a letter though.
Competes to Win. I'll give it a try, thanks.
~Rx
-
That's a cool list. And I understand how you only want to do games that you or your kids will play, but here's what I'm saying to you though...
If you help me by doing the ones I don't have (you don't even have to convert them to wmv, Ill do that), I will provide you with awesome videos for every game you want. (I'm sure 98% of the ones you would want are covered in the ones I'm working on).
You scratch my back, I scratch yours
Here's previews of what is to come. In wmv format of course, so they have to be converted.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GRBAPVPT
Here's hoping you can and want to help us get a complete set of SNES videos. I've already got 700+ coming over the next few weeks/months.
Oh... I don't understand Japanese either. Brandish II was a translated game. I think that's the only one you were thinking about that was Japanese
-
Sorry man... I dont' have an FTP.....
Yeah... there's tons of US roms. The ones that I mentioned above starting with A and B would be a great start. I have a collection of almost 900 SNES roms. Most of them are US, but some are Europe & UK and some are translations of Japanese (Mostly role playing).
What did you think of those vids? Pretty kick ass, am I right?
If you would work on the A and B games I'm missing that would be great. We'll figure out the best way to transfer them then. What I'd like to do, if you would do the videos for the games I'm missing, is make a thread where there is no chat, but we post the videos by letter as we complete the letter over the next few week/months. If I didn't put it in that list above, you can be sure that I have a video for it. I just need those that I mentioned so far. Everything else is made and the videos are great.
In the mean time, if you do the missing videos for A and B I will make a new thread devoted to the download of SNES vids and give the credit you and EmuMovies deserve for all the hard work.
At least you know what a bitch it is to use the media encoder. Multitasking is right..... I wrapped up making Atari 7800 and Atari Lynx perfect emus while I was making just the letter B in SNES movies.
EDIT: Here's hoping that NES appreciates the effort in the end. I will make these movies for you eventually my man.......
Just a few requests, if you dont' mind
1) Allow use of subfolders (and an ability to program the main folder) for all images. I have hundreds of SNES manuals that I converted from PDF to JPG and they look great in your image preview. No need to scroll through thousands of pictures to get to what you want though.
2) Allow a switch, so people could use either video previews or screenshot/boxart/cartridge previews at their whim. I have a great collection of still images I might want to look at, at some point. Even better if there is an option to scroll through the pics before starting the video.
3) Maybe give a little advice to madmab about getting this functionality to work on the XPort emulators if he needs it.
Thanks for the great emu man.

http://www.zshare.ne...960615890ac86e/
Wow, good job just thought I'd cheer you on & say what a good job your doing Thanks from me + the hundred of other xbox owners waiting for these zsnes previews.
regards to the #2 I think that'd be a cool idea (for instance have the game box front appear and then by selecting the left on the right thumbstick have the xmv game preview show up or vice versa) or even have it to where it changes on its own.
-
Thanks for showing that preview XBOX
That's one of my favorites so far. It looks like it cut a lot of it off though. The full version is pretty amazing though, ain't it?
Most of the games that aren't covered in this collection don't really matter much, but there are some that I'm surprised haven't been done like Alfred Chicken and Addams Family Values and some others I can't think of right now.
Hopefully we get a full set put together. As the letters of the alphabet are completed and I have them all I will release them to members. I don't want to release unfinished letters in links though. I hope you understand.
With a little help from my friends here, I should have some good news for everyone soon.

I'm torn here because I do want to help but I don't see the point in having previews for games that "may not be that good". I do have the free time to work on them but it's a chore as it is without doing it for lame games.
I'm of the mindset that all the popular/memorable/fan fav's get done 1st then if someone's nostalgic and has a request it can be filled. I just don't like the idea of doing unnecessary work since I'm already busy enough with RL as it is. Like I said if there's 2 or 300 games worth previewing why do them for every game. I don't want this to be about who's Preview Penis is bigger, although I can already see it going that way.
I'd feel different if Nes and the gang chimed in and articulated their desire to have them ALL done. Plus like I said, my previews aren't small so we'd be talking gigs. I've just got some reservations before diving in.
Would also be nice to hear who else has made some and would be willing to pitch in.
-
Ok, No matter what I tried, I could NOT get mencoder to get a proper wmv file with audio that xmvtool.exe accepts. The wmv plays fine in VLC with sound, but xmvtool will simply refuse. So I'll have to investigate a different way to batch convert a ton of avis.
-
Thanks for trying man. I hope you figure it out. I'll keep working on vids one at a time when I get a chance in case.
-
of course higher resolution looks better
. But is it realy worth the effort redoing every movie when ressurection has most of them pre-made already?
and btw: I seem to have found a solution, or at least a first start to develop one:
http://www.tech-reci..._avi_asf_to_wmv
I will reboot to windows to fiddle around with those scripts, wish me luck. This will probably work, as it is using the tool recommended in the tutorial
-
Ok, I think my windows setup is seriously flawed. I tried several "recommended" ways to batch convert the files. All failed. And I even tried converting a single file using Windows Media Encoder 9, which also simply failed. I found out, that the WME 9 SDK ( http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en ) actualy comes along with a batcher (C:\WMESDK\examples\vb\batcher), maybe someone who was actualy able to convert a single file could try that...
I think i'll just try making video previews then...
-
stuff like this concerning super nintendo is typically a project I would jump on.
however i take the mcat august 5th and as a result havent even downloaded this version of zsnexbox or updated my xmbc in over a month... havent updated my mame emulator either when Im aware of some updates... and this coming from a guy who is usually right on top of things...
guess what Im saying is that starting august 6th, if my help is still needed, I'd be willing to contribute as much as I can.
ps: kinda a thread jack but as a side note, after my test I was seriously contemplating the idea of whipping up an xbmc skin that is designed specifically for games and emulators... bare bones in the sense that it wont include anything for media... this is because I am jumping the xbox ship and using my macbook to run xbmc now, outputted to my tv, for all of my media... plus I have reached my 320gig limit on my hdd... but anyways, so if anyone is interested in lending a hand with that, than that might be a cool project to work on... however this is entirely up in the air. and like I said I won't even be available to work on this until after my test.
-
finaly, success!
turns out I had a broken xvid decoder installed, so I removed the xvid codec completely and instead installed fddshow. Now i can finaly convert avis to wmv using WME, and even the batch encoder that comes with the WME SDK works now
all you have to do, is create a profile using the profile editor that comes with WME, and specify that in the batch encoder. easy as pie, realy
-
did you? I must have missed that
But i got it working now anyways, which is great.
Now, all i have to find out is how to get the "appending" working. I would like to take in game shots, then after 45 seconds or so, show the intro or something. Whenever I click "append" in zsnes, it goes back to where the previous video left off...
-

Get that working for us man and you're a hero....
I spent the last two weekends putting perfect screenshot art collections with boxscans, carts, title shots and action shots for the Atari, and I would love to have a setup on them where it scrolls through the artwork and then starts the video for all games.
Hopefully we get this ability added to XPORT emulators in the near future.
It's XPORT's and NES's time to sit back and relax while the grunts do the work. They made this all possible, and it's only right that we provide them with the best experience they could have spawned off of their creations, right?
-
i think i'll whip up a quick batch file. then it's just: copy videos to folder, double click bat, wait
Windows Scripting Host ftw.

Fekkin A

Looking forward to trying it out. I wanted to bitch slap the computer for acting a fool, but it would probably beat me up with it's superior mental powers. (All laughing at me the whole time when he can do 11ty billion computations by the time I figure out 2+2 is 4.
Thanks for all the hard work man. This is going to be your and my release. And Sotu's too, because he has a couple good previews up already and says he wants to help out.
Thanks a bunch to the both of you. Hopefully we can get some help. This ain't all that hard, it's just a little time consuming. Maybe after the thrill of GTA wears off and before Fable 2 comes out we can get a little more help around here.

EDIT: Why do I always read "ftw" as :censored: the world?

NOTE: If a popup appears asking wether or not to use ffdshow, tell it to NOT USE ffdshow.
EDIT: got the bat working now, download here:

Important information is in the readme!

Maybe I'm doing something wrong using your settings, the finished wmv is a very small file size around 1mb and the visual quality is less.
No biggie as I'm cool continuing to do them the way I have been but I just wanted to let you guys know that your resulting wmv's may be of less quality than they already are which would be a shame imo.
Hopefully it works good for Rez and he's able to get his pack out for everyone.
-
sotu, thanks for your feedback. Could you tell me what settings you are usualy using to convert yours to WMV in WME so I can addapt my profile to it? The quality loss is probably due to me using bad presets in the profile.
EDIT: or you can create your own profile using the profile editor that comes along with WME (Start -> programs -> Windows Media Encoder -> utilities -> Profile editor) and share it with us
-
This is sweet man. I'm going to let it run overnight on my movies and see if it works on all of them.
Making the videos retain their quality is easy using the Magic Video Batch Converter. All you have to do is select "Windows media Video 8 for Broadband (NTSC, 700kbps)" and it works perfect. There may be a better setting that you find, but I can't tell the difference from the original with this setting.
Thanks man. You wouldn't believe how much frustration this saves me.
~Rx
-
Nevermind guys. There are some problems. The size of some of the conversions seem to be larger than the original while others are smaller. It seems random.
If you figure it out tonight let me know. I gotta go to work...

i'll also upload an updated profile to my site. i'll edit this post in a few minutes.
EDIT: New profile is located here: http://horscht.googl...com/WMVXMV2.prx
this is for use in the batch encoder, if you want to use the batch-file sollution you can simply rename the new profile to WMVXMV.prx and replace the old one or redownload my updated package here (again, readme applies):
http://horscht.googlepages.com/WME.rar
EDIT: That is a very preliminary Readme, it does not contain any credits, so I am going to credit here:
thanks to
Jezz_X for his nice tutorial on how to create proper WMVs
nes6502 for his nice WMV to XMV batch script, which this is actualy based upon
seamonkey420 for his script that I ripped some syntax from

Been really busy the last month, and havn't been able to read the forum. Sorry to anyone who PM'd me.
I was surprised to see this thread had more posts than the 3.4 thread. I actually didn't expect people to make previews since the scene is so dead. Thanks everybody! I hope there are some wmv previews posted soon. I really would like to see the "best of" previews posted. However, I'd be glad to get any since I don't have the time to create them.
Previews is something I wanted since the 1.0 release. I actually wrote 90% of the code back in 2006. However, I ran into some roadblocks and lost interest on finishing the feature. I might look into adding more options for displaying the previews.
As far as adding preview support to Xport's emulators; I would gladly abstract all the code and write up a guide on how to easilly implement it for him if he requested it.

I suspected that while perusing over the source code it looked like something you had set-up for some time but only just got around to implementing. I don't think x-port has really been interested in improving his emulators (mostly lack of time). But I have been working on adding to them and certainly would not mind a write up.
I did notice that most of this stuff is based off of the developer kit and I would probably handle it differently myself, but an analysis/guide should make things alot easier to do. I'd certainly love to add it in.
-
Hey Sotu,
We must be looking at different programs or something.
These are the options you're talking about, right?
QUOTE
These are the presets I've been using to do all my conversions:
Audio encoding mode: CBR
Video encoding mode: Quality VBR
Audience: Quality Based
Audio Codec: WM Audio 9.2
Audio Format: 32 kbps, 32 KHz, Stereo CBR
Video Codec: WM Video V8
Video Size 640x480
Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
Keyframe: 8 s
I don't have any of those options available to me with the batch program that I was using yesterday. The only option that looks like it's relevant is one to change the bitrate on the movie. They looked great, but I didn't want to make 600 like that if they weren't perfect copies of the originals. They also transfered to XMV just fine as well.
Send me the link that you used to get the program you're working with. There were a couple thrown around and I may have grabbed the wrong one.
Thanks
~Rx
Oh... and a big thanks again to Horcht for bringing this to us. I'm not very patient with certain things, and downloading a ton of programs for converting files the way I want to is a pet peeve of mine. I just had to do it for all of my screenshot previews and it was annoying the hell out of me.

Sotu, I don't think that it is realy necessary or even usefull to set the resolution higher than 256 x 224 pixels.
Zsnes outputs movies in that resolution, so we can safely create wmv's that size and let zsnexbox handle the upscaling on runtime if needed.
Or do you have a way to let zsnes output movies of 640x480? I am not sure of that is even remotely possible, as exceeding the SNES' native resolution is probably only acchieved with upscaling as well...

All-American Championship Football DONE
Arcade's Greatest Hits (Not the Atari one, I've got that) DONE
Archer MacLean's Dropzone DONE
Asterix & Obelix DONE
Asterix DONE
Battle Clash DONE
Big Sky Trooper DONE
Blazing Skies DONE, for some reason this is pretty huge, though (20 megs)
Chavez I DONE
here they are in wmv format (uploaded to sendspace, googlepages wouldn't let me upload it): http://www.sendspace.com/file/6pkpm7
Also, I checked to see wether there was any quality loss when encoding in 256x224 compared to 640x480. I wasn't able to notice any (seing as the actual input avis are 256x224 i was expecting this result) so I updated the WMVXMV.prx profile and is now available on my site: http://horscht.googl....com/WMVXMV.prx
it is also included in the batch-file package: http://horscht.googlepages.com/WME.rar
The profile now has the following settings:
Audio encoding mode: CBR
Video encoding mode: Quality VBR
Audio Codec: WM Audio 9.2
Audio Format: 32 kbps, 32 KHz, Stereo CBR
Video Codec: WM Video V8
Video Size 256x224
Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
Keyframe: 8 s
This profile keeps file sizes pretty much down
-
You are indeed right, I see no quality loss in the lower resolution and in fact the filesize is less than half.
What was 14megs is now 6.8.
Nice part is that you've provided us with the batch encoder so it should only take me a few days to re make them all. I'm no dummy, that's twice the number of previews I can fit now so no point in wasting space. Since I'm learning during this whole process I don't feel like I've been wasting my time, thankfully.
I'll also have to remake and post smaller vids for RezX for the project. Shouldn't take long.
-
Thanks a lot guys. I'll work with your settings and if I have questions then I'll ask.
I should have some time tomorrow to work on this so I should be able to get the first few letters of the alphabet put out there after I grab yours and bunch them together.
I'll keep you updated.

Wow...... You guys are definately more advanced than I am.
This is taking me forever to figure out.
Just finally figured out that I had to make a folder "C:\Programme\Windows Media-Komponenten\Encoder" instead of "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components\Encoder"
That got it started, but now it says ".Error occurred in transcoding: Error Code = 0xC00D002F"
I have no clue what that means, and I probably wouldn't understand it if somebody explained it to me.
What do you mean by "edit line 5 to the install folder of WME (where you installed WME)"
When I replace the current line 5 with that text, it erases the profile completely. And of course the batch then fails with "Invalid profile: 0xC00D1B5F The profile's media types must match the media types defined for the session."
When I add a new line 5 and say "C:\WME" it fails with ".Error occurred in transcoding: Error Code = 0xC00D002F" again.
I'm sure this is my problem somehow, but I can't figure it out.
-
<profile version="589824"
storageformat="1"
name="WMVXMV"
description="WMVXMV">
<streamconfig majortype="{73647561-0000-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}"
streamnumber="1"
streamname="Audio Stream"
That's the first 7 lines when I open it in notepad. I've tried replacing line 5 with "C:\WME" and also have tried adding a new line 5 and putting "C:\WME" there without deleting the current line 5 with no success.
-
i was talking about the .bat file, not the .prx file.
you should edit the bat file to point to your WME instal path, C:\Programme\Windows Media-Komponenten was mine, as I am from germany. Yours will differ (that's why i made it a variable "wmedir" in the batch script).
I once got the Error Code = 0xC00D002F as well, i fixed that by installing ffdshow. But remember to put cscript or the SDK batch encoder.exe on your ffdshow blacklist.
when using the batch encoder exe that comes with the WME XDK, you don't need to edit the .bat file, obviously.
if you're using my bat file instead, you'll have to edit that bat file to your WME install dir (C:\Program Files\Windows Media Components probably
-
I see what you mean about the .bat my bad.
I still can't get it to work though.
I think it's ffdshow that is my problem. You mentioned something about codec packs having what I need. How else would I get around the ffdshow problem.
I'm bored, and I'm quitting this now. It's too frustrating.
EDIT: I can get Magic Video Batch Converter to work fine, but the videos look like shit even with the "Best for Broadband setting"
I can't get the batch file you created to work at all.
Output
-
well, what exactly is the problem? What does not work? the SDK batch encoder? the batch-file? or both?
Also, in either case, do you get any screen ouput? if so, what?
-
so, do you have any codec packs installed? try installing ffdshow if you don't. you can get it here
http://www.free-code...oad/FFDshow.htm
also, after you installed it, don't forget to add cscript to your block list of ffdshow. how to do that is described in my readme.
if you have any codec pack installed, try removing that first. iirc, i got that error when i had Xvid installed...
EDIT: Alternatively to installing ffdshow, you could try installing the Windows Media Encoder SDK first...
http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en
I realy hope either of this methods will work for you. I also had a very hard time figuring out what was wrong with my setup, why it didn't work etc. If it doesn't (I sure hope that wont happen), we have to find another way for you to batch encode them or get the avi's to someone whose setup is working.
-
I've already tried installing ffdshow and following the instructions about what to block. I've also installed X CODEC PACK which says ffdshow is included. Neither method works for me.
I think I got it. It converted to wmv anyways. Now to see if I can make an xmv out of it.
I removed all codecs and ffdshow. The Media Encoder SDK does the trick on its own.
Thanks man,
~Rx
EDIT: The batch file crapped out on me after three videos, but I started it back up again and it is converting the video of Casper that it got stuck on last time.
Hopefully it doesn't happen too often. But otherwise it works great. I've got three videos on the SNES that look great.
-
Holy Crap sotu!
Your videos were huge man.
Don't worry about getting smaller versions of those. A few big ones are fine. I'm going to try to get a few letters out there sometime tonight or tomorrow. Let me know if you guys start working on C and D. Thanks so much for both of your guys help.
~Rx
EDIT: On second thought..... as long as you're remaking them for yourself, you mind sending the smaller versions. They get even bigger when converted to xmv. If you don't mind zipping them all together for one download too man, that would be great.
Thanks.

Could somebody make vids of Addams Family Values, Alfred Chicken, Brandish and Brandish II for me? That's all I need before I release A and B sets.
-
Cool man. Thanks
-
Got those posted and all weigh in under 13megs which should be an improvement.
Won't be on tomorrow but will grind hard on monday and get a bunch done.
Nice to finally have a grasp on these. I've been editing some of them in VirtualDub which makes it easy to simply cut out what you don't want and rebuild the avi complete with your edits. Very simple and fast.

QUOTE(ressurectionx @ Jul 13 2008, 04:58 AM)

Could somebody make vids of Addams Family Values, Alfred Chicken, Brandish and Brandish II for me? That's all I need before I release A and B sets.
I created 3 of those. I left out brandish 2, because it is a Japanese only game.
http://horscht.googl...m/Converted.rar
EDIT: ressurectionx, it would be great if you could create a list of all the videos you have (all 702). There's even a quick way to do it.
open windows command prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
then type the following command, whereas "videodir" will be the directory the avi's reside in (F:\SNES for example, if the foldername contains spaces, put it in "")
dir "videodir" > C:\video.txt
if the videos are spread across several directories, repeat the same with all directories, but variying the output file, for example
dir "videodir1" > C:\video1.txt
dir "videodir2" > C:\video2.txt
that would help greatly to compare to our romcollection so we can create videos of the still missing games in advance.
(howto taken from here: http://discomoose.or...-command-line/)

I probably got Brandish II trans a few years ago. I will look around, but I don't know where I got it now.
I'm uploading #-A to megaupload now, but it's going to take a while. Hopefully I remember to post it before I go to work. If not, I'll have it here in the morning.
EDIT: Oh....I'm also missing these vids for C&D
Cannon Fodder
Corn Buster
Daze Before Christmas
Dino Dini's Soccer
Dirt Racer
Dragon Ball Z - Super Butouden III
-
I forgot to get sotu's smaller videos, so if somebody wants to repackage the set with his changes that'd be cool. It's only a few videos in this set so it really doesn't matter much. I'd do it myself, but I'm super busy the next 3 days. I'll get back to this on Wednesday sometime.
Here's #-A
Let me know if you have any problems.
~Rx
#-A
You'll need winrar to unzip the files and you'll have to use NES's converting program to switch them from wmv to xmv.

Also, here is a google docs spreadsheet.
http://spreadsheets....j...eopQg&hl=en
if you are about to make a video, mark it here as "done". You should also add your name to the last column (remeber to re-publish the document everytime you make a change).
-
Thanks for the vids man. Nice work on the spreadsheet too.
Did you try the vids I posted yet?
More to come on Wednesday when I get the time.
~Rx
-
I downloaded them, but haven't converted/tested them yet. Might do that later today.
-
Let me know what you think.
The only problem I have with them is that the audio isn't regulated between clips. There are a few overall that are very low volume and some which are pretty high. None of them are as loud as the emulator's music though.
Maybe there is a way to run a batch on all the files now to regulate the volume? And maybe there is a way to turn the emulator music down a tad so the audio sounds about the same level overall while scrolling through games and options?
Just a thought,
~Rx
-
yeah, tested the videos today, It's nice

I think that "normalising" the audio is not easily possible with the tools we use atm, so we'll probably have to find a replacement for our current tools, or an additional one.
but you can turn down menu music (that's what I did) by pulling the right analog stick down
-
(downloaded them yesterday/set-up & sampled them this morning.Unless you find a big enough rock to kill two birds with one stone (person with know-how to figure out how to maintain the audio level equally) I personally think the preview vids are ok(ok=perfect) as is...How about you guys just try and get them all done first (#A-Z set) then hopefully someone will jump on your bandwagon and try to figure out that "small" audio problem...but none the less good job so far the previews look good and add an-xrta sparkle to the already cool Zsnes emu.If I had the know-how I wouldn't mind contributing Cya
-
Downloaded the wmv's and just want to say thanks for the hard work you guys are putting into this project. Thanks. Keep it up.
-
I´ve tested this videos! Nice work guys!
-
Glad everyone will be able to get use out of them. The audio isn't too bad on most games, and a lot of them are right around the same level, but you'll notice as the sets come out that a small number are very soft and a small number are very loud. Normalizing would be great before release, but it's fine if we can figure it out someday and everyone has to run their collection through two programs instead of just the wmv to xmv bat.
So Horscht.... when you use the right analog to turn down the emu volume it doesn't turn the video volume down as well? Kinda defeats the purpose if it turns them down too.
Anyways. Thanks to you and sotu for your continued work and I look forward to getting these all released for everyone.
I'll start work on it again tomorrow night.
~Rx
-
nope, it only turns down background music. Video volume stays the same
-
Cool man. Good to know.....
If you and sotu kick some ass on the other videos I will do my best to release whatever letter sets you guys complete in the next few days....
Is #-N too ambitious?
Probably..... Whatever you guys get through is great. I'm working on perfect boxart/cart/title/action sets for all the other emus, so I got plenty to keep me busy at the moment. Once I acquire the rest of the a800 to 5200 roms and I get the shots for them, I'll have perfect sets for Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 and Lynx. I'll have to try my hand at that Google spreadsheet thing and post my findings for all of those games as well.
Right now I'm working on Colecovision, Intellivision, NES, Virtual Boy and T16. I'd like to get Gameboy/Gameboy Advance at some point too, but that collection is rediculously huge so it will probably be a long time before that's done.
Hopefully we can get video support for all XPORT emus and maybe have skins that show video previews as well as a window at the bottom that scrolls through the screenshots. That would be a cool option for a Zsnexbox skin too, don't you think? (HINT, HINT NES
) I'm making a screenshot set for SNES as well just in case that ever happens.
I'm glad I'm not working on MAME anymore at the moment. That shit was driving me crazy. This type of work is much more my speed. I'm not a programmer and some of the stuff that comes easy for others was taking weeks of my life to learn. I'm glad I did it and learned something, but I'll let the pros handle that emu and hopefully there will be a way for me to add all the missing games with fixes in a patch for those of us who want the most complete set of working games possible on XBox.
~Rx
-
I am just about to take a few all the way through F.
And yes, MAME is a bitch to set up and get working.
-
I had MAME set up and working fine. I was using BP's emu, which I don't even see how anybody could argue that it's not the best MAME emu around. He didn't want to add the games that I wanted though and wasn't willing to work with me to do it so I took up making my XBox a debug box and spent around 200 hours programming the damn thing myself. It was really hard giving up all that work, but I knew that unless the full source and everything that makes his emu outside the source was released to the public someday, I would never be able to add my work to his and get it doing all the other cool things he's done to it. So I bowed out and let him handle it.
Only sad thing is, now that I'm not there fighting him on a daily basis in public, the proles seem to have stopped caring about the emu and it doesn't look like a whole lot got done since I've been gone after his latest release. He's got a spreadsheet out there too, basically for keymap fix suggestions and stuff, but nobody seems to be helping much so the project is at a stand still.
I'll probably help out on that later, but I'm trying to wrap up all the other emus now. Then I might work on the Karaoke thing in XBMC too first.
Thanks again for all your work man. Whatever you guys get done I'll try my damndest to get out there for everyone.
~Rx
EDIT: Anybody know where I can get a mic for the XBox for the karaoke?
-
I am using coinops as well, all I did was add a few games that were not in the package. No need to recompile, as long as they are compatible.
-
i'd say 30-60 seconds should be well enough, tbh.
I am currently uploading all the E and F videos I made, gonna take an hour or so.
-
ok, several things.
1. Here are the uploaded WMVs E-F
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HAN032ZE
2.
I found a tool, which allows batch normalizing of an audio track contained in a video. It's called Media Coder, it's freeware and can be downloaded from the official Homepage: http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
The normalizing should be done prior to batch encoding them to .wmv, cause MediaCoder uses open source software/codecs to encode, which will not be compatible with xmvtool. So, after normalizing the audio you should re-encode them using the Windows Media Batch Encoder from the WME SDK. To minimize compression loss, these settings sound reasonable, apart from the output folder in the top right. It should be set to some different folder, to avoid confusion:

PS: of course, you can use this on the .wmvs provided already, but you'll have to re-encode them afterwards with WME SDK batch encoder. However if you do this, it is mandatory to change the output folder of MediaCoder to something different (see top right corner of mediacoder window) to avoid conflicting filenames.
-
Wow... I don't think I'll be doing this.
Way too far back in the process. Thanks for finding it anyways. You're all welcome to use it on the sets after they're made, but that would set me back a few days on the work if I have to reencode them to wmv and then to xmv again.
Shit
-
Unfortunately, it changes them to .mpg afterwards and then I can't use your bat file to encode them to wmv. What am I supposed to do with a mpg file?
EDIT: Yeah... there has to be a way to do this with .wmv files and make them .wmv files you can just use the batch to convert to .xmv. I'm getting really frustrated now and I can tell that even when I get these converted I'm probably going to have compatibility problems and they won't transfer to .xmv correctly.
Sorry. I can't do this.
-

change it to look like this (i highlighted the changes):
QUOTE
for /f "tokens=*" %%a IN ('dir /b "%idir%\*.wmv"') do cscript.exe "%wmedir%\Encoder\wmcmd.vbs" -input "%idir%\%%a" -output "%odir%\%%~na.wmv" -loadprofile "C:\WME\App\WMVXMV.prx"
this will convert wmv input files.
Remember to edit it back when trying to convert .avi files again
-
I'll try to get them running before I go to work then. If you could do this to your future videos with those settings, that would be great.
This will lower vids that are to loud and make soft vids louder then?
-
http://en.wikipedia....o_normalization
normalizing will lower/rise the overall volume so peak volume will be the same in all vids. Since it's not using audio-psychological issues into account, they *can* still seem to be of different volume (the ear might be tricking you).
It's no problem for me to use this technique for *future* videos
-
I'm just skipping the normalizing. This really isn't working out well. And the benefits just aren't there. I can make ActRaiser II louder, but it still doesn't match the other games anyways.
Just hook me up with the wmv files and I'll release the letters when I get a chance.
-
If somebody has the translated version of Final Fantasy V, could they make a video for it?
-
Don't worry about converting any of the vids you've already posted to wmv. I've got it taken care of. I'm working on an updated list of missing games. Some of those are just repeats of games I already have and I'll make sure there's no more "Korean League" games out there so you don't waste your time.

I believe this eliminates all non-english games from the list as well as (E) clones of (US) games.
Here also is a list of what I believe to be the only games I'm still missing. Not sure if you guys can make vids of these too. I still have to look for them myself:
Dirt Trax FX
Galactic Defender
Godzilla Destroy all Monsters
Great Battle
Metal Jack Armored Police
Pele
Rally the Final Round of the World Rally Championship
Ranma 1/2 Anything Goes Martial Arts

Cool man... I'll do what I can to get more out today too.
I saw your notes in your spreadsheet with a lot of those games being bad. If you look at my updated list, I took those and quite a few more out of there because they were clones or not in english. It's up to you, but if you go by the new list from this point forward, it will probably be easier.
Sorry I couldn't normalize the audio, but I spent about half a day trying and the results always seemed kind of random. I was either getting lesser quality "tinny" audio, or I was getting files that were 3 times the normal size that sounded good. I welcome anyone to fix the really low volumes after release, but I figured it was more important now to get the videos out there. They can always be repackaged someday if somebody gives me the audios with the normalize fix.
Thanks for the FF V vid too. I didn't even know I had that translation until tonight.
~Rx
PS... any mods wanna give me a word on whether we can post .xml files or not? Somebody ask a mod. I'd like to just release the finished product so people can just add them to their emulator without the hassle of converting.
EDIT: Thanks XT...
Things have changed quite a bit since I put that list up there. I actually have Hagane and the video for it as well, so when I get "H" out there, it will be there. No worries
You know me better than most here. Total completist. Most people will probably never play a lot of the games we'll have videos for, but it will be a complete set and look good while you're scrolling. My brother thinks it's amazing. I'm just hoping that we can get this functionality on the XPORT emus soon.
(PLEASE...... MAKE IT SO YOU CAN SEE THE VIDEO AND THE SCREENSHOTS IN TWO SEPARATE WINDOWS
)
By all means if you see any videos/roms missing in the future just say so. I'm going to eventually put spreadsheets with my findings on all systems on Google Docs and hopefully people will add any missing games or post any fixes they have for games that don't work totally.
Glad you like the videos,
~Rx
-
Hey thanks for all of the hard work. I was just wondering if there was any difference between the #-A set that was first packaged compared to this latest set or if these were just repackaged. Also it might be easier to repackage just the new ones so that people won't download duplicates each time... that is assuming you don't have any reason to keep repackaging the files in their entirety which if you do have a reason than keep it up by all means.
Secondly, I don't have hardly anytime at the moment to putz around on my xbox. Therefore I'm just collecting these videos for future use, I have not even downloaded this version of the emulator yet, so pardon my ignorance... But I'm assuming that these files need to be named the same as the roms correct? and if so, what program, if any are you using to do the renaming? I believe that my roms are named in the traditional fashion like NES's original videos were. Are you guys using the good tools? anyhow, I was just wondering because i don't have much experience with using those tools.
-
competes2win
first they have to be converted to .xmv format with a tool, that comes with zsnexbox 3.4 but is also seperately available at the usual place (in the zsnexbox directory).
then it will have to be named exactly the same as the romfile and put into the videos folder of zsnexbox.
I name mine manualy, as I am taking this chance to also clean out my rom library from dupes, useless roms and (most) japanese games.
regarding Hagane:
meh, it's not my type of game, tbh. SNES was realy well known for it's intense library of awesome RPG games. Currently, "Secret of Evermore" has me hooked. And after that, i'll either play Chrono Trigger or Tales of Phantasia
-

eek, manually doesn't sound very fun. I got rid of my complete romset a long time ago and am left with only the US versions of roms, i tend to think my romset is fairly clean. I'll look into alternative ways to name the files. Thanks.

Have you played Secret of Mana? it's my favorite. Illusion of Gaia I think was under rated as well.... but I haven't played that for about 15 yrs so perhaps my memory isn't very good. I remember enjoying it though.
-
Suto: that's what I've been saying. Hagane is a action game, but I love the SNES for it's RPGs.
competes2win: back in the day, I only had a handfull of SNES RPGs. Zelda, Terranigma and Mystic Quest. I have seen a lot of the other RPGs at my friends though. So, yes, I played Secret of Mana as well, but I only played it a few hours, not the full game. It's what I want to keep up with
now, I'll just stop taking this off topic
-
These demo players on some of the games are awful.
I wonder how they pick them? If someone on the dev team did the demo or at least picked the guy to do it that it would be pretty good gameplay. But some of these vids make you wonder if the player was even looking at the screen. Thankfully not all demo guys are terrible.
Bio Metal has one of the best demo's I've seen so far. Would be nice to note some of our fav's as we're doing this so we can pay special attention to those that deserve it. Another reason my previews are larger ie more frames.
If the demo is good I preview it all, if it's bad I try to just use the best parts.
-
Competes2win,
Yep... Sorry, you'll probably have to rename them by hand. You understand if I don't have any pity for those who need to do this by hand as I've done 10s of thousands of pics, roms and now vids by hand. I don't like a lot of the naming conventions that good tools use, so I've made my own rom names and the videos reflect those names. I suppose I could post my own datfile so you can rename your roms to my names when I'm all through if you'd like, but then you might not like my naming conventions like I didn't care for good tools. The best way to customize it to your liking will always be to rename them by hand.
#-A is the same as the vids that I put in #-E except that there are about 6-8 videos that are much smaller after Soto made his previews smaller. I didn't realize that I can upload a gig at a time on megaupload until yesterday, so when the missing vids are created and added to the set I will release much larger sets like the #-E instead of the #-A. I will not dupe anymore of the sets from now on. Please disregard the original #-A as I was just throwing that out there originally to show that I wasn't leading you guys on. When we're done completely, I will post a new thread that has all of the links on the first post.
Sotu,
If you're making better videos with editing and whatnot, you should post them up here for people to have another option. I thought the same thing about the demo guys,.... sometimes they just sit there and get hit or look like they're purposely trying to hit everything on the screen.
-
Hey Horscht,
Hopefully this new list works out better for ya'll. The first list was just preliminary to get names out there, but that updated list is exactly what I need (minus all the non-english games, and European clones of US games).
I'll work on getting another set out shortly. Hopefully somebody else starts giving a hand. I certainly didn't mean for this to be just you and me Horscht
(Not taking anything away from Sotu and his contribution a few days back)
EDIT: Here... I figured I'd update the list again.

Looks like 73 Vids left. Come on everybody. Give Horscht a break. Let's get a few vids out there.
I'll be posting (F-O) after it's done zipping and uploading to megaupload.

I updated the spreadsheet here:
http://spreadsheets....j...eopQg&hl=en
now the list of open videos only contains ResX updated list.
-
SNES WMV Complete (#-E): DOWNLOAD
SNES WMV Complete (F-O): DOWNLOAD
Note: It should go without saying, but do yourself a favor and don't download #-E again if you already have it.
-
I have revised the current missing list, and here it is:
http://spreadsheets....j...eopQg&hl=en
I have marked quite a few games "???" as to revise their need/existence etc.
Those were games that I could not find in either of my romsets. Neither the GoodSNES set nor the No-Intro set.
also, I have marked a few games as ommitted, but highlighted them yellow so you can easily spot these remakrs, resX. Feel free to highlight them red as soon as you have noted them
-
I'm working on your list right now man, if you didn't already see it. Most everything so far I agree with. I just want to research a few things a bit deeper before I sign off on em. The only thing I am in disagreement with is SimEarth. I don't get a black screen when I play it. It's blank on the top half in the beginning, but everything else seems to play fine and I'm not convinced that this is an error. Having never played it before today I can't be sure. (Perhaps somebody who knows the game can verify for sure).
Sorry a lot of those games weren't available in the US or period. Those were the ones I added later that I hadn't researched until today. I have (US) boxart for all of them, so I thought they were just good roms that I didn't have, but I couldn't find them either. Glad to have you in agreement on that anyways.
Looking forward to your next release of vids. Hopefully we can get S done shortly and I'll release P-S.
Thanks again for all of your help man,
~Rx
-
Hey Horshct,
I just checked out your FFV video and it's great man. Top notch work. I haven't really checked out more than the first second or so with most videos, so I haven't really seen your other work though. If it's that good, those are great vids man. Thanks
~Rx

I know im a little late to jump into this discousion, but I use this batch file to convert
to wmv. I havent used it in a year, but its just drag and drop no follin around with shit.
http://xbox-360.blig...os-on-xbox-360/
-
alfa4_n1n54:
yeah, when searching for a solution I also came by that batch file. Unfortunately it suffers from the same issue as mencoder:
the resulting wmvs wouldn't convert to xmv for me.
That's why I had to find a different way.
@Rx:
this is realy everything I get when starting Sim Earth:

And I am pretty sure there should be something where the black area is. On the top of the screen you can see one line of "terrain".
EDIT: seems that pressing select actualy brings you to a different in-game screen, on which you can actualy see stuff
. Gonna do a video of that. Hope to finish "S" by tomorrow.
Rx, regarding the game "Godzilla - Destroy All Monsters": from your description it sounds like a game called "King of Monsters" or "king of Monsters 2". Is it any of these 2 games or realy the japanese game I listed?
-
Hey Horscht,
Yeah.... looks like you came to the same conclusion on Sim Earth that I did. I really couldn't tell you if that screen should have color where it's black. it would seem that it should, but everything else seems to work fine.
Glad to see you still working on this. Let me know when you've got S done and I'll package it all up and post it.
I'm going back to work tonight, so it might not be up for a few days if I can't get the time.
~Rx
EDIT: It's actually "Godzilla - Kaijuu Daikessen" just like you had it listed. If this is a clone of King of Monsters I'd be really surprised. It's got legitimate Godzilla monsters in it.
-
ok, verified it's a different game than King of Monsters. Video Done, will post it in the next set, when I've finished doing S
-
Missing Videos up to S:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PU341XW6
-
Hey Horscht,
I got your files converted and they're getting packed up now. I'll upload them to megaupload tonight while I'm at work (it takes about 3.5 hours). Hopefully Windows doesn't do an update on me overnight and reset my computer while I'm waiting for the upload to complete and I can just post the link in the morning when I get back.
I've taken the liberty of adding the known translations that weren't obviously unfinished in my collection to the spreadsheet as well. I've only played several of these for any length of time, so there may be a few that aren't translated well enough to keep at this point. Just thought somebody may want to help out on these one day. The few translated games I did play so far are really good and these make an excellent addition to a SNES collection, especially for RPG fans in particular.
Thanks again Horscht,
~Rx
-
yes, I noticed that. I think it's good that you added them at the bottom of the list, as they are low priority, tbh. First we should get a full US/Euro set out for the videos. I might then go through my list in Zsnexbox and look what videos are still missing (my set is now fully cleaned thanks to GoodSNES/GoodMERGE/UnGoodMERGE, no more rgional dupes at all, only english games (japanese translations included)
) and might do a few, but I will probably not do a whole lot of these, as my vacation is over next week, which means I gotta go back to work
I hope to get the rest of the non translated videos done by tomorrow evening.
-
Yeah.... I thought it might be tough getting a full set of the English translations, but I thought I'd put them out there anyways. Maybe somebody will pick up the torch after you're done. Hell... I might even do it myself someday when I get all of the other things done that I'm doing, but there's a ton of work to do so I didn't jump on actually creating any of the videos this time around.
I'm about half-way done with a perfect Boxart/Title/Action/Cartridge pack for SNES. I figured I'd put that out when I was done as incentive for NES to give the emu ability to display both at the same time. I know there are currently no skins that would support it, but we've got to have a couple of artists in here who would be willing to alter the current skins to have two boxes instead of one if all of the videos and artwork are already done.
I did all of my de-duping by hand myself. Likely more work that way, but the games are named the way that I want them. I will eventually go through all of the SNES games and make a compatibility list for them too. We already know some games that don't work, but I know there are others. Hopefully people would add any missing games to the list or tell us if they have a version of a non-working game that works.
If you get those other vids out by tomorrow night I should be able to find some time to post the rest in the next few days. I work 12 hour shifts and this is my 4 day week, so we'll see. I'll be out of town this weekend, so I'd like to get it done before I leave. Here's hoping...

here's the rest of the bunch (minus 2 or 3 videos of games that did not work in zsnes)

SNES WMV Complete (#-E): DOWNLOAD
SNES WMV Complete (F-O): DOWNLOAD
SNES WMV Complete (P-S): DOWNLOAD
Thanks for all your hard work Horscht. I'll try getting the rest out in the next few days before I go out of town.

SNES WMV Complete (T-Z): DOWNLOAD
Enjoy everyone, particularly NES, and a million thanks to Horscht for all of his quick work and great videos. (And Sotu too
)
When I get a datfile together and complete the screenshot/artwork set for SNES, I'll post all of the links together in their own thread.
Hopefully somebody will work on the translated videos now to make this collection complete.
~Rx
P.S..... if this ability finds its way to XPORT emus, I'll be around to make video sets if people are willing to work with me and fill in the blanks.
-
Glad you like the vids. I'd love to try your rumbles out sometime. I have a feeling that I'm going to have most of my XBox time for a while wrapped up in video and screenshot previews in the near future if NES or somebody else gets the videos working on XPORT emus.... Even more time if we can get both previews to show up at the same time. They're going to look freakin' awesome though.
I think it would be a great idea, now that those of us who aren't very coding savvy are coming out with great additions to these emus, if we created a thread that somebody could edit and add when new features (complete ones) like these vids and your rumbles are released. I know there are quite a few things that I saw in the last year that I would love to try, but I'd probably have to dig through 30 pages of stuff to get at it someday. I believe Sotu and Cospfogo had some excellent artwork not too long ago that I'd love to try out someday and there are also some cool skins floating around out there that I never had the chance to try yet. The thread should then be stickied at the top and labeled something like "EMU TWEAKS!" or something.
I've never used the rumble feature before, and I'm not even aware of how the progress is on the rumble at this point. I have to admit that if someday I can play Combat on the Atari 2600 and feel my controller rumble every time I get shot, that would be pretty damn cool.
Glad you're working on it and it seems we still have quite a few others who aren't letting the scene die. Most of the emus are pretty damn perfect, or as good as they're going to get, compatibility wise. If we can just get a few feature tweaks like the video and screenshot displays in tandem, us grunts can finish the job and make the XBox the premier video game museum that M$ never wanted it to be....
Take care,
~Rx

nice.
at first glance, i see quite a few translations in there. Might compare it with the current "missing translation" list later on
-
I decided to update and split the spreadsheet into 3 sheets.
round 1 is already done,
round 2 is what has to be done now, I haven't had the chance yet to "verify" the translated list or compare it with sotus list of videos (and I wont be able to in the next few days, not until I have renamed all current videos etc.)
round 3 is something that REALY EVERYONE is welcome to fill with games (also video
). Not only will this help us get the videos to said gems, but it will also give people ideas and suggestions for games to play
-
Awesome stuff guys. I probably won't be on much for the next week, but I'll get back to work on it when I can.
-
Just wanted to say my appreciation to Horscht again for all of his help making the missing videos and his invaluable help making that batch converting file. It saved me weeks of work, really. I just went through every game in my US-English set that we dont' have marked as non-working yet and there is now a video for every game in that folder. THEY LOOK GREAT!!!!!!
And a big thanks to NES for making the video preview a possibility in the first place. This is now, hands down, the best emu on the XBox.
Hopefully we'll see vids for the good English translations in the future. And also the ability to view the game manuals for the current game (if available) from the options screen. I have several hundred game manuals that were converted from pdf to jpg and they look great in the image preview option already, just waiting to be used properly when the emu allows and I will release them then as well for those who want them. I also have many Strategy Guides as well that could benefit from that ability too.
When I get a chance, I will update Horscht's spreadsheet to reflect every video in the collection and when I get around to testing the SNES games I will make the spreadsheet a compatibility list for Zsnesbox as well. I'm sure there are probably other games that don't work that we have videos for, but we don't know it yet because we didn't have to make about 700 of the videos from scratch. Overall though, I think this emu probably plays 98% of the games available or more.
I'm also working on a complete artwork pack for the SNES that I will release shortly.
I will also release a datfile so you can rename your roms to match the artwork/manuals/videos/etc. when I'm ready.
Nice work everybody who contributed, and to all the others I hope you enjoy....
~Rx
PS... Horscht... I made a 4th sheet for the non-working games/games without videos. There is also a game that you had marked as not working that you can get to work if you mash buttons at the title screen, it's on the list and the color is white again. For some reason it freezes if you do nothing, but it will play if you just mash the buttons and the start button.
-
Sotu... I just looked at your videos... quite a few that we can add to the translated pile. Nice work. I'm sure that they all look good and are probably better than a lot of the videos already included. Maybe some of yours should replace vids we already have when I release the SNES extra's thread in the future.
-
SNES Compatibility and Video Checklist
There's 5 sheets in the workbook now, but it shouldn't be too confusing for anyone.
Hopefully that helps structure where we're at now for everyone
PS... Horscht... I don't have an account now where I can do much more than edit. If there is a way you can save all of this now, that would be great. Never know when some dumb cybervandal will come in here and trash the place.
-
With the videos previews, zsnexbox is by far the most impressive emu
I know Xport (the god) have stopping the coding,
so is there a emu coder out there who could had that fantastic feature to xports emulators?(now that source code is released)?I really hope yes. Congrats for your videos though
-
if I understand correctly, nes6502 is already doing just that.
@RX: no biggie about the games # - B, i'll just leave your name in there, as I myself have no clue what videos I made
and nice job about the spreadsheet, let's hope people will fill in
PS: As soon as I get my NES set goodmerged (GoodNES V3.14), I can already create a nice NES Spreadsheet only containing US roms (and european roms, when no US rom exists).
EDIT: what do you mean by "do more than edit"? Can't you save it as .xls (via file -> export)? Also, I am the "owner" of the file and I think I can revert any changes made to it, if need be (let's hope that wont happen
)
PPS: I saved it to my HD as .ods now (open document spreadsheet) just in case...
-
I went through the translation list so far and found a few alleged translations, of which a few are barely even translated. I marked them red and commented them. You'll also find an additional spreadsheet labeled temporary. Those are translations I found in my set that weren't yet on the translation list.
Please do not paste these over to the translation sheet just yet, I will do so when I have finished going through my set. I am as far as H now.
PS: please also note, that I am not saying the red ones should not be done at all. It means that *I* will definately will not make those, as I deem the translations not "good" enough. You are of course free to create those videos yourself, but i'd consider these generaly a lower priority.
-
Hey man. Good to hear you backed it up. I can't stress how important that is because of vandals and just your general computer screw ups.
I updated the list again. Lots of new things. I was making the missing action screenshots for games tonight and figured I'd work on the list at the same time.
~Rx
-
you might have noticed while editing: I also made a few remarks
. All stuff I edited was from my memory, but I only edited things I was certain about. I will probably add a few remarks etc. in the next few days, probably not today though, as I came home 2 hours late today
-
Thanks twan9666.... Glad you're enjoying the vids if you got them.
Yeah Horscht. I saw you made some comments. I wasn't even aware that some of these games can be played on the other SNES emu until now. I'd love to say it should just be added, but after having poked around in MAME's code anatomy, I would never assume it would be an easy fix. It may require using an updated core, or introducing code that hasn't been made yet. It might be really easy though too. Who knows?
We've got a list now of what doesn't work out there. Maybe if some people would like to try now that it's not a yearlong project they'd have an easy list to go off of. We'll probably add more games at some point, but a lot of the legit non-working ones are out there now.
I saw you're on the spreadsheet now? What are you working on?
~Rx
PS. Everyone....
I added them to the table so anyone can see in the future, but I highly recommend acquiring the "Secret of Evermore - 2 Player Edition (Hack)" to play the dog on the 2nd player and "Return of Double Dragon (Music Fix)" so the intro and demo music is the theme and final fight song from Double Dragon the Arcade.
-
Hey Sotu,
All of your videos from Hamelin no Violin Hiki to Heisei Inu Monogatari Bow don't work. Can you re-upload them?
Also Last fighter Twin doesn't work as well.
I've updated your contributions to the spreadsheet. I'd appreciate it if you just zipped future videos you make together for ease of integrating. Thanks for your contribution.
~Rx
-
Hey Sotu,
Never mind about fixing the videos. They all work now. I don't know if you fixed them or if it was just glitching out on me yesterday.
Also, Horscht and I say that Cu-On-Pa SFC, Dirt Trax FX, Kirby's Avalanche don't work. How did you make this videos?
Thanks again man. Hope to see more from you soon,
~Rx
-
he probably used snes9x on PC. Both emulators have different compatibilities but both can record movies to avi. Just my guess, though.
EDIT: also, these games could also be compatible with zsnes, but not zsnexbox.
-
You're probably right. I don't even know how to create the original videos. I just figured that since we're doing this for Zsnexbox that we were only making videos for Zsnexbox. Just looking for some clarification here.
Hopefully he adds more vids because those are a lot of cool untranslated games.
Did you make any more videos Horscht? I've updated the spreadsheet so it has all of the videos that Sotu made in the Translated section so you wouldn't be making any videos that were already made.
Later,
~Rx

no, not yet. still sifting through my romsets, playing a bit rockband and guitar hero besides
I finished going through R so far will start with S - Z later (looking which translations are not "worth it"). I consider anything below 90% not worth it, for RPGs it has to be even higher by my standards.
-
Ahhhhhh Guitar Hero. My bro laughs at me because he kicks my ass at it even though I play guitar.

Hey Sotu,
My emu has worked fine for all of the roms so far. Any roms I've had a problem with, I've verified with Horscht and gotten the correct version if there was one. "Pieces" is the ONLY game that we're still in disagreement with.
Unfortunately, it's a lot of your untranslated roms that don't work. Horscht probably won't verify those as he doesn't really care about them. Most of them freeze up my XBox. Because all of my other roms, US-English, Translated, and Untranslated that I had before still work, so I'm almost positive it's not my configuration at all.....
Oh well. If I can't get the untranslated to work soon, I will remove the vids for the non-working games and put the games in the non-working section. I'll try a few more things, but it's getting real old having to get up and reset my XBox every 30 seconds trying to test these out. I dont' even have them zipped now, because I know sometimes zips aren't good.
It would be unfortunate if I have to remove them. I like your videos.
~Rx
-
Added for ya Sotu,
I really respect your opinion about games that work because you did most of the work on the PSX before I did and games that I tried I agreed with you almost all the time. If I end up removing a game to make progress, I will make it blue so it's in despute and it's easy for you to see. If you say it's working, I believe it is, I just need to see it to keep it in my collection, and the collection I'll be releasing in the future.
~Rx
-
I can verify them working, sotu. I tested them fine on my console (using Roms from the GoodSNES set)
regarding videos:
I myself can create videos just fine using zsnes. In fact, I don't have the option of using snes9x, as snes9x lacks a proper linux GUI, and I haven't found one that allows anything beyond basic options (load rom, save state).
-
F-N translations (I missed one starting with F)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ME1N7Y63
-
seing as he got the emumovies DVD, I assume he also has FTP access, so technicaly, he'd have access to all systems listed on emumovies.com
I should add, that SNES and NES are probably the only ones I am realy interested in, I never was a Sega guy
will try to get a few more translation videos out by today/tomorrow.
-
Yeah.... It's very strange.
How can I test nearly 1,000 games without a problem, but the last 20 or so untranslated games lock up my XBox? I'd be worried it was my setup if I was having problems with previously tested games, but trying them out at random they all still worked fine for me.
I even went as far as to delete game saves for games that I've changed names for (there were about 500 of them). Every time you play a game it creates a new save for it, so I had quite a few that were unnecessary after all of my name changing. I thought maybe that was giving me problems adding new ones, but that wasn't the case apparently.
So now I'm going to test the remaining untranslated games with a new install of ZSnesbox, even though they won't make my personal box, just for the sake of having an accurate list of working games.
I have Sotu's exact roms, so getting a good set shouldn't be the problem here. He says that they work on his box, so there should be no problems on my box. This is very strange.
Oh... and I got 10 DVD's in the mail of videos and I have lifetime access to the FTP site for videos. I can't say for sure which systems I have videos for since I didn't look at anything except for SNES yet, but I think it's pretty safe to say all of the major ones for Atari, Nintendo, Sega, PSX, etc...
~Rx
-
ok, here's all my translations up to S
that's it for this week, let's see when I'll have the time to do the rest next week.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O8VC8CCH
I need someone else to do a video of Laplace no Ma/Rapurasa No Ma, as this game does not seem to work with zsnes 1.51 for PC and I can't use snes9x.
-
Great work Horscht. I'm working the next few days so I won't be able to do any more work myself for a while either.
Actually Sotu, Action Pachio was one of about half of your translated ones that I had marked as working. Like I said though, I usually only tested most games out to the point that you could move your character around and take an action screenshot, so there's likely quite a few more that don't work once played for a while that I have marked as working. Did they tell you where it messed up? I'll mark it down in the spreadsheet where it screws up if they did.
Anybody got any ideas of why these are messing up on me or things to try to fix them? I tried to delete saves for them, but noticed that any game that locked up my box didn't even have a save made for it. I didn't go back and try all 800+ games I've marked as working, but I did try about 30 at random and they all start up fine. It's just these last 20 or so translated versions that are locking up the box.
I'd really like to have the games on my system since Sotu's made videos for them even though their untranslated. I'm also concerned that if this is a deeper and more serious problem that other working games might start messing up as well.
Any advice would be appreciated.
~Rx
-
I hereby wanna report that I now have finished almost all videos so far, minus a few exceptions.
http://www.megauploa.../de/?d=IO59CHIM
the few exceptions are the following:
BS Zelda no Densetsu Map1 and Map2
BS Zelda No Densetsu - *japanese words* stone tablets part 1-4
those were not yet done, but I will make a set containing videos for this later this or next week.
Laplace no Ma / Rapurasa no Ma
we need someone else to do the video, as the game works in zsnexbox, but not in zsnes 1.51 (for linux)
-
Just thought I'd drop in and let everyone know that I finally got video previews working in x-port emu's. It's partially based on the XDK movie playing code that NES6520 modified. So you can count on seeing it in future releases.
Apparently Nes6502 had been working on implementing it as well. But since I had already made like a gazillion changes to commonfuncs.cpp and already had a framework I went ahead and plugged it in.
-
Thank you Madmab for all your hard work!
These past months have been legendary for the emu scene with so many new features across multiple emu's. It's a good time to be an enthusiast.
-
Fracking A awesome Horscht. You and I make a great team I think.
Look how much shit we accomplished in about 2 weeks....
Sotu, I think I got Action Pachio to work much farther than black on startup. I'll verify and let you know for sure. It may just be a bad rom that you've got, because I marked it as working on the compatibility spreadsheet. Thank you so much for your help here too and I hope you can make videos for your other games to add to the collection soon. I want to release my artwork packs, but I'm waiting for you to finish the translated gems videos so I can get the artwork for all of them (boxart and in game scans only, since I can't find foreign cartridge artwork). Maybe if you have a list of games that you will be making the vids for and put them in the spreadsheet, I can do that ahead of time and release it with a datfile finally. (I'm really trying to give incentive for someone to figure out how to make simultaneous video/artwork previews and a skin to support the function)
And madmab.... my boy
Knew you could do it man. I can't wait to see it. Which system are you figuring you'll apply it to first? I will convert a few of my purchased videos to wmv for you to put on your system to see just how bad ass of a thing you did. Hopefully we can get help getting a full set of the Atari collections like we did here in SNES land. I believe that's the emus you're partial to....
Great thanks to all everyone, and great work. I think we might be breathing life back into this scene again.
~Rx
-
Sotu,
Action Pachio works just fine. I just checked it. At least it doesn't freeze on load like yours did and I was able to play for about 30 seconds after starting the game.
As for the other 20 untranslated I still can't figure out why they lock my XBox up. DAMMIT!!!
-
so, here they are.
The videos for the BS Zelda games:
http://www.megauploa.../de/?d=0XQD0N4N
Note that the BS Zelda Sekiban Games do not have music in the dungeons, only in the overworld. Also, in the videos the sound seems slightly off sync.

SNES Compatibility & Video Checklist
Got some notes in here for you Horscht when you have the time. You'll find them.
~Rx
-
I have read them and put my remarks right next to it.
Also, I have added a few games to the "foreign gems" list, that are not actualy foreign, but I don't think we should make another sheet about hacked games. All 3 hacks look realy to quality. Gonna test them later, as I havbe to go off to work in a few minutes.
-
Atari Lynx Compatibility & Video Checklist
There are also some games I can't find so I'm not sure if they exist or not. Plus it would be nice to have somebody verify that the non-working games really don't work.
Thanks everybody,

Here's the videos I still need and then I'll release the finished SNES extras pack:
Translations:
Dragon Ball Z - Super Totsugeki
Laplace no Ma
Mobile Suit V-Gundam
Foreign Gems:
SMW2+
SMW2++
Brandish II - Expert
Brandish II - The Planet Buster
CBY Warrior
Doraemon IV
GS Mikami
Paladin's Quest II
Seijuu Maden - Beasts and Blades
Shin Momotarou Densetsu
Shounen Ninja Sasuke
Super Bomberman - Panic Bomber W
Super Bomberman IV
Super Bomberman V
Super Chinese World II
Super Full Metal
Undercover Cops
Beta - Homebrew - Unreleased:
Apocalypse II
Arcus Odyssey
Batman
Congo the Movie
Genocide II
Prime
Snake Blasters
Steven Seagal is The Final Option
Super Dany
Tinhead
(Probably SMW2+ and SMW2++ should probably be in this category instead of Foreign Gems)
You mentioned you wanted to help with some videos Croc. That's all we still need for SNES for a complete set. Thanks in advance if you help out.
~Rx
-
Awesome Croc,
We're just 30 videos away from an extras release. I'm sure I'll have everything else done for SNES by the time they're done. Still making sure all the names are the same for everything and we have all the good roms in the datfile. This takes way more time than anyone would ever know unless they did it themselves....
Looking forward to your contribution.
~Rx
-
Thanks Croc.!
I just grabbed them and I'll convert them and test later. 20 more to go everyone.
~Rx
-
I was trying to make a few nice videos for the 3 Super Bomberman games, but everytime when I dumped the video using zsnes, the character i manuveured fine through the level when recording just ran into enemies like crazy, so all i got was 10second clips, which I do not felt were worth uploading (they were realy bad!)
I actualy had this issue before on a few other games (if you have a look at the cannon fodder video, you'll see i was "randomly" shooting around, but I did that because in the 10 or so dumping processes before i didn't and missed the enemies, so i fired randomly just to be sure the bullets would hit in the dumping process as well.), and I have realy no idea how to solve that.
-
Hey Croc.,
Thanks again for the videos. Just checked them out and they look great. Only thing is you used Adventures of Batman and Robin for Batman. There is actually a demo of a game just called "Batman". It's like a Final Fight type game and Batman is jacked up enough to look like a WWE wrestler.
Your help is very apprecated.
Hey Horscht. Maybe somebody else will have luck with those Bomberman videos. If not, I'd still be interested in getting them from you, even if they are short and not up to your usual standard. We're so close to getting a full set now and an Extra's release.
~Rx
-
Allright.....
All thanks to Horscht, Sotu and Croc. (and emumovies and the rediculous amount of time I've been working on this), we are almost to a complete ZSNESBox extras set.
Here's what I need from you guys and we're good to go:
Translated games:
Aim for the Ace!
Dragon Ball Z - Super Totsugeki
Laplace no Ma
Mobile Suit V-Gundam
Foreign Gems:
Brandish II - Expert
Brandish II - The Planet Buster
Doraemon IV
GS Mikami
Paladin's Quest II
Seijuu Maden - Beasts and Blades
Shin Momotarou Densetsu
Shounen Ninja Sasuke
Super Bomberman IV
Super Bomberman V
Super Chinese World II
Super Full Metal
Undercover Cops
Beta - Homebrew - Unreleased:
Batman
Super Mario World II Plus I
Super Mario World II Plus II
We get these made and I'll release the pack. Hopefully soon, right....
NOTE 1: Croc. - I know you made a video for Batman, but it was a video for Batman and Robin. Batman is it's own game as a prototype and it plays like Final Fight and Batman looks jacked up enough to be a WWE wrestler. I really appreciate your effort though. 9 more down because of you.
NOTE 2: Horscht - I put the Super Mario 2 and all Zelda extras in the "Beta - Homebrew - Unreleased" becasue it made more sense there than in the Foreign Games. Those Zelda remakes are fantastic, and although I haven't noticed a difference with Super Mario 2 yet, I haven't played it in years so I can't tell at all. I'm sure they're really cool though.
~Rx
-
I'll keep cranking them out if I have help man. Appreciating what you're doing. Let me know if you need any clarification on what those missing roms are.
~Rx
-
good news: I finaly managed to get good Bomberman videos. And the best thing of all: it "only" took me about 30 tries

bad news: I can't convert them to wmv (or xmv) right now, as my windows install broke last night, so I uploaded them as avi.
Super Bomberman 4: http://www.megauploa.../de/?d=J4OHCKYW

Only 16 videos left if there are no more Foreign Gems. I can't wait...

Thanks Horscht
-
I'm adding requests for these videos as well. They're the non-working games which don't have videos created. (Not including any foreign or bad translations). I figure that they could be used for XPorts emu if they work there or if we ever get updated cores in the future that will play them. There's not too many...
Non-Working Games:
Dezaemon SFC
Lodoss Tou Senki - Lodoss War
Majin Tensei
Michael Andretti's Indy Car Challenge
Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Boxing
Power Monger
Sports Illustrated Championship Footba
Super Batter Up
Super Puyo Puyo II
James Pond III - Operation Starfish
Marvel Super Heroes - War of the Gems
Star Fox II
Top Gear 3000
World Class Rugby
World Masters Golf
Metal Max Returns
That will get us a complete video set that will work for all games if we get an updated core or if we can carry these over to a next-gen system some day.
~Rx
P.S. It may be possible that some of these games can't be played at all anywhere else. If this is the case, please let me know that a video can't be created.
Gotta go to work so I'll be taking a breather. Hope to see some more action when I get back.
-
They're part of the Xtra's pack, aren't they? I don't beleive they were left out.
-
Check the link in the banner on my signature. It's all right there. (Don't worry..... you're not the only one who doesn't check stickied threads)
Everything is wmv. You'll have to convert to xmv yourself though because I'm not allowed to post xmv files here. Over 900 videos total, all the artwork, skins, over 50 rumbles, over 200 manuals, and datfiles to rename your roms so the videos and artwork match.
Violinist of Hamelin is in there as well as some SMW 1 and 2 hacks.
Don't have everything you mentioned though. I'm generally not a fan of hacks, but several made the cut. Videos for SNES aren't too hard to make though and if you want to add them, I'd be happy to put them in the thread and give you credit. Always happy to add something that may have been overlooked that is really good. Always room for error when it's just a few guys putting all this together in their free time with no financial incentive.
Enjoy,
~Rx
-
Yeah.... It's great being stickied, but I know a lot of people don't see it up there. No worries...
Don't worry about converting the videos either. If you make AVI's just bundle them up in one file and host them for me. I'll make all the necessary conversions for stuff and repackage it.
Oh yeah.... if you've played any games to the end on any system let me know and I'll update that too.
Later,
~Rx
