Title: Ver1.2 Xbox + 007 Exploit & Raincoat = Tsop Flash
Post by: Moosta on September 09, 2003, 09:27:00 PM
Ellooo Everyone,

It all started off with a Ver1.2 Xbox.

I copied the 007 Game Save Exploit & RainCoat 5.01 to my already modified Ver.1.1 Xbox.
I had to use the 5.01 because the other version wouldnt recognise the ST-M29F002BT701 chip. After using this it recognised the ST chip and confirmed that it was a 256k memory.

Then I copied the 007 Game Save exploit to the memory card. Then copied from memory card to the Ver1.2 Xbox. Booted the 007 game and loaded the game save exploit.

All worked out fine. Then I telneted to the xbox via 192.168.0.64
Ran the backup command of raincoat to save the original bios.
All seemed fine. Then I flashed the TSOP using the 256k - 4976.02 bios
It then gave confirmation that the flash was successful.

I turned off the Xbox, thinking it was happy days. Then I was in a world of pain.   :grr:

All I now have is a Xbox that when turned on flashes the eject button at me in red and green.

And to add insult to injury, Its got the 007 rental game I rented from the video shop stuck in the DVD tray. Thats right it wont eject the tray for some reason either.

So, In desperation I am looking for suggestions, solutions and help. I've used the search feature of the forum and havent got any results with my search strings, so please dont flame me if this is covered else where and I've over looked it.

Thanks to all for and help or suggestions in advance.

dunno about the frag, but there is hole near the dvd tray into which you can put a paper clip to manually eject the drive (do this with the power off). You can then return the game. Also all is not lost, youcan fix the xbox with a cheapmod install, giving you a working xbox for a few dollars and bit of soldering.

I had also been given the paper clip hot tip by HSDEMONZ. Thanxz to the both of you for this info.

My paper clip wasnt long enough to push it out far enough or it wasnt coming out correctly.
I got around this problem by removing the IDE data cable from the DVD drive it self.
Powered up the DeadBox and wamo, out she came, So all is good and no late fee's from the video shop.   laugh.gif

I've got a Matrix ModChip. I've just discovered where D0 is on the Ver1.2 Xbox.
So I'm going to tape the D0 pogo under the ModChip & solder a bridging wire from the top of the pogo pin and try and tac it to the D0 point on the MoBo. I'm hoping that this will help me get the machine to boot and then I can work on recovering from a bad TSOP flash.

Other than that, I suppose I'll also have to investigate the "CheapMod" senario.
Does anyone have suggestions regarding the use of the Matrix ? Am I wasting my time ?.

Thanxz again for the feed back and comments.

Ps. I will be making my own tutorial on recovery if I succeed.

Update with my recovery progress.

I have fitted a matrix to the FUBAR Xbox.

I've got it booting from the Matrix.

Does anyone have any recovery suggestions with the TSOP now ?.

Cheers

Although the matrix can be used to flash a TSOP, I believe it has to be a working TSOP (ie. you want to replace a working TSOP).  The only way to recover from a bad TSOP flash is with a homebrew (29-wire) modchip.

Unless you'd like to go through that hassle, I'd suggest staying with a modchip.  Cheapmods are an older style of modchip that only have 256K of memory.  They're cheap (usually <$15), but don't work on the newer xboxes (don't know about v1.2).

Speedbump47,

Thanxz for your feedback. I would like to try and fix the onboard TSOP.

So I'll take your advice and start hunting info on the homebrew (29-wire) modchip.

Got any hot tips or pointers regarding the homebrew chips ?.

Thanxz again.   beerchug.gif

I'd check on the http://www.xbox-scene.com tutorials section.

I found a potential solution there for your Matrix (be forewarned it may not work):

http://evox.xboxhack...topic.php?t=812

If I remember correctly they have info on homebrew installation as well as the method for Matrix TSOP flashing.  I don't know anywhere that sells a homebrew chip anymore, since they're really out of fashion, but for all intents and purposes, it's a ROM chip that is connected via wires to various points on the motherboard.  There's no PCB or anything for it really.

I got the shits with trying to fix it so I fitted a Aladdin Advance modchip.

Thats sorted it all out, Not sure if I will try TSOP flashing again.
