Title: Fba Xxx
Post by: Smothermunchie on December 09, 2006, 01:27:00 AM
Greetings everyone.  :o)

I have "something" in a zip file, the contents of which are broken down into 9 .rom file extensions.

I've tried close to everything and searched for most of the day, but I can't seem to find, what should be, an easy answer.

What type of file does FBA XXX or FBA XXX Pro look for when trying to emulate a NEO GEO game? Also, where should that be store on my Xbox hard drive?

I even have something that has a .ngp file extension that I placed in the ROMs folder and that still isn't recognized.

Basically, everything I try to do, FBA XXX states "No roms found".

I'm so new to this whole Xbox emulation scene that if there was a NEO GEO rom that fell from the sky, started to wiggle, and then peed on me, I still wouldn't know what it was. :o/

By the way, I downloaded something from torrent called "NeoRAGEx 5.0" which has all the fixings of what I would like to see emulated on my newly soft modded Xbox.

A little help to a new comer would be great.

And if you could, walk me through your answer like I'm a baby. :o)

Greetings everyone.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif))
And greetings to you from the Lord Humungus, "THE" Lord Humungus, Warrior of the wasteland, the 'Ayatollah of Rock'n'Rolla!!!"

I have "something" in a zip file, the contents of which are broken down into 9 .rom file extensions.
That could be an arcade rom, arcade roms are always zipped and inside the zip are multiple .rom files all belonging to the same game.

I've tried close to everything and searched for most of the day, but I can't seem to find, what should be, an easy answer.
Well then you probably havent searched properly, arcade rom information is pretty much everywhere these days.

What type of file does FBA XXX or FBA XXX Pro look for when trying to emulate a NEO GEO game? Also, where should that be store on my Xbox hard drive?
it will look for zipped roms going by a certain name, metal slug 2 for example is called mslug2.zip
and you cant change the name of the zip or it wont be detected.
and it should be stored in your roms dir in the fba dir, if its not there boot up fba once and it will make a rom dir.

I even have something that has a .ngp file extension that I placed in the ROMs folder and that still isn't recognized.
Because ngp means neogeo pocket, which is the gameboy like handheld by SNK,
in short you are trying to play a handheld game on an arcade machine, ofcourse it wont work.

Basically, everything I try to do, FBA XXX states "No roms found".
Either because you have no roms or you dont have the neogeo bios in the roms dir,
the neogeo bios should be called neogeo.zip, and if you dont have it i suggest you google for it,
its illegal to ask for it here.

I'm so new to this whole Xbox emulation scene that if there was a NEO GEO rom that fell from the sky, started to wiggle, and then peed on me, I still wouldn't know what it was. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)/
just be happy neogeo cabinets dont fall from the sky.[/b]

By the way, I downloaded something from torrent called "NeoRAGEx 5.0" which has all the fixings of what I would like to see emulated on my newly soft modded Xbox.
NeoRageX is very very very very old and most likely the romsets you got with it are outdated, but it never hurts to try them out.

A little help to a new comer would be great.
Here ya go.

And if you could, walk me through your answer like I'm a baby. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif))
Not planning too, but i gave some answers you might find helpful.

Hey Vamp, what up G Money Dogg Nutz Cockaroacha of the Rock'nRolla!!!

Thanks for the great reply and not treating me like I'm some wounded mental retarded gorilla.  :o)

Since I'm not all too good at explaining things, I've brought pictures with me this time.

Here's my NeoRAGEX 5.0
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/6494/foldermt8.jpg

Here's the contents inside the Roms folder
http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/9853/insideam1.jpg

Here's what the inside of a zipped rom looks like
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3093/zipxr9.jpg

You'll notice that I also have the neogeo.zip file in the rom folder as well.

So I'm trying to use FBA XXX.  I have the roms (zipped and unzipped) in the folder E:FBA XXX/roms/ on my Xbox's harddrive.

I know I'm missing something really simple here, but I just don't get it.  And no, I'm not talking about my sex life.  :o)

I'd be more than happy if you could send me to a link or type in what magic words I need to enter into Google.  I've tried all sorts of word combinations in Google and the best I could come up with is that the internet is basically a daily, turd depository.  :o/

Please send me in the right direction so that FBA XXX will stop saying that it can't find any roms.

Also, one other question.

My TV screen when running XMBC and all of the programs and stuff I have stored on the machine looks like this.

....______
../.........../
./........../
/........./

My TV screen slants fairly dramatically to the right.  I've tried the video calibrations on my dashboard and in my emulators, but that only lets you fit the screen to my TV, it doesn't have any options on how to correct the slanting.

I just have a normal TV, I can't afford dem fancy new LCD or Plasma machineries.  :o/

Is there some setting or option I'm overlooking here?

Thanks a bunch.

If you help me out on this, I promise you'll be my new personal hero!  :o)

yep all your romsets have been renamed.

try the following :

rename metalslug1.zip to mslug.zip (or seeing how you dont have file extensions enabled in your windows just rename it to mslug
then put that mslug.zip in your fba rom dir together with neogeo.zip

DONT unzip them, #1 rule with arcade roms is that they must always be zipped.
rule #2 is "Dont rename the filename, like dont change sf2.zip to streetfighter2.zip, its a MAME thing, dont ask.
also dont rename anything inside the zip file either.

now after you placed those 2 files into your fba rom dir start fba.

there's a chance that the romset of metal slug 1 is outdated though, so it may run or may not.
same with the neogeo.zip the bios might be an old version.

edit : almost forgot, dont put extra dirs into that rom dir, everything goes in the rom dir without extra dirs.
so no fba\roms\metalslug1\mslug.zip stuff, should be like fba\roms\mslug.zip and fba\roms\neogeo.zip

Check out the big brain on Vamp!!!!

Okay, give me about an hour or so and I'll definitely try your suggestions.

Thanks.

P.S. Did my question regarding the video output on my television mean anything to you?

I really would love to get that fixed as well.

Sadly no, however you could always check your cables..

unplug everything and make sure everything is clean (ports/plugs/etc)

I never really experienced image problems myself.

Okay, all is almost well.

I've got most of what I was hoping to run on my Xbox working quite well.  You were right, all of the rom file names weren't being recognized by FBA.

The only thing is that when I select a rom, FBA XXX is stating that it can't find uni-bios 22.

I have the uni-bios-22.zip file in my roms folder as well as the neogeo.zip.

Should I unzip the uni-bios-22.zip file and put it inside the neogeo.zip file?

Anyway, thanks for all of the help.

Someday I'm going to write a song about you.  :o)

Correction, FBA is saying that it can't find uni-bios.21.

Like that's suppose to mean anything to me.

Okay, I'm all straight now.

Vamp, if you're ever in East Lansing, Michigan, I owe you a beer.  :o)
