Can it be run strictly from dvd-without using hard drive? Or will it fail/crash? Thanks for the help this seems to be an awesome snes emu from what I've read so far. This guy nes6502 is just "brilliant" to say the least!!
Thanks!

You can run it from a DVD no problem, but you must have a hard drive for the saves.

I wouldn't add the D:\Saves and D\:SRAM to the INI, if I was you. You would never be able to save, this way.

Nes6502. So standard hard drive or a modified one with evo-x or unleash-x etc. and change the path.ini files etc. I have not burned this yet. Here's my path file:
D:\artwork\Shots 1\
D:\artwork\Shots 2\
D:\artwork\Shots 3\
D:\artwork\Shots 4\
D:\artwork\Shots 5\
D:\artwork\Shots 6\
D:\artwork\Shots 7\
D:\artwork\Shots 8\
D:\sram\
D:\save\
D:\ini\
D:\rumble\
D:\cheats\
D:\garbage\
D:\roms\
Again thanks again- you rule......
Do it like this:
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 1\
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 2\
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 3\
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 4\
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 5\
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 6\
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 7\
E:\ZsnexBox\artwork\Shots 8\
E:\ZsnexBox\sram\
E:\ZsnexBox\save\
E:\ZsnexBox\ini\
E:\ZsnexBox\rumble\
E:\ZsnexBox\cheats\
E:\ZsnexBox\garbage\
D:\roms\
Then make all those empty folders on your E partition (this is a requirement). A standard hard drive will work fine for the above save directories. Make an XISO/burn and it should work fine.
That way the ROMs are on the DVD and everything else uses the hard drive. All of those paths read and right so you can't make them start with "D:\" since that will mean read/write to the DVD (which is imposible)
-
If you set all paths to D:\ then it won't work because the emu needs to write data to most of those folders. So you need to set up your path.ini like this:
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 1\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 2\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 3\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 4\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 5\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 6\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 7\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\artwork\Shots 8\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\sram\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\save\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\ini\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\rumble\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\cheats\
E:\SAVES\ZSNEXBOX\garbage\
D:\roms\
The only problem is that the E:\ folders must exist on the HDD before you launch your Zsnexbox disc or it will just crash. Zsnexbox does not automatically create the folders it needs like other emus do.
EDIT: Looks like nes6502 beat me to it.

What other emulators create the folders? i.e. if you change the path in the ini to something like this and these folders don't exist, what other emulator will create the entire directory structure you specified?
E:\a\b\c\d\e\f\g\h\i\j\k\l\m\n\o\p\roms\

I believe it goes straight to "E:\Zsnexbox\" just like what nes says. That's how zsnexbox created the folders for me on my Harddrive. Xport emulator saves are the ones that go to the "E:\Saves\" folder.
EDIT:
I don't think it matters, as long as its not on "D:\", since you're the one setting up the ini file. Just make sure the folders specified in the INI are existing.

It doesn't matter what you put in the ini as long as it doesn't start with D: for directories that require writing and the folders actually exist on your Xbox.

To answer your question, if you change the default save directory in the ini file of XPort's emulators to a folder that doesn't exist then the folder is created. It probably works for rom and screenshot directory's too but I've never tried those.

I put zsnes 2.99b on a multi-disc mxm and it didn't boot up? I have executer 1 chip maybe the default.xbe needs patching? Or do I have to make an x-iso with x-iso or craxtion program? Maybe it doesn't work on multi-disc dvd-r's? I usually just burn using sonic record now files/folder method-but this obviously doesn't work any and all answers much appreciated... I thank you in advance! Dying to play this. dsj1

I made an x-iso file and it just hung on the xbox title screen! Maybe needs xbe patching? Don't know?
Anyhelp? Thanks....
-
Without wishing to cause any controversy and purely as a suggestion. I would recommend using xsnes9x for any multi-dvd since it is also a fantastic SNES emulator and it boots and runs from disc straight out of the box with no problems at all.

What does your Path.ini have in it? That's most likely the problem.
-
Is there actually a ZsnexBox folder on your E drive with an artwork folder that has a Shots1, Shots2, etc.. folder in it? This also applies to all the other folders that start with "E:\" in your Path.ini
You have to create all those folders on your E partition if you are going to point to them in the Path.ini.
The easiest fix is just create a folder called ZsnexBox on your E partition, and then copy the folders from the ZsnexBox root directory (folders: artwork, ini, save, sram, garbage, rumble, and cheats) to this new "E:\ZsnexBox" folder.
Then it will work.
You don't need to patch the xbe. Just make sure the Path.ini points to folders on your Xbox hard drive and those folders actually exist on your Xbox hard drive.

I'm using a stock xbox hard drive it's only modded with executor 1 chip but no avalanche or any other dashboard but ms stock stuff. So how would I do this stuff? snes9x does work without doing anything to the hard drive etc. this is just another way of doing things? thanks!!
You have a mod chip but no other dash than the Xbox standard one? You REALLY need to put something else on there like UnleashX.
However, The "E:\" partition is on all stock Xbox hard drives. You have to create all the folders on the E partition.
So:
1) Download UnleashX
2) Make an XISO of it and burn it
3) Boot your Xbox with this UnleashX DVD
4) Go to the file manager. You will see your C, D (DVD-Drive), and E partitions.
5) Go to the E partition and create a ZsnexBox folder (press the white button and a menu appears with a create a new folder option)
6) Inside this ZsnexBox folder create all the other folders (artwork (with all the Shots1, Shots2, etc), sram, save, etc...)
That's it.

Just tried Zsnes 2.99 ... A really good Emulator !!!!!
I have a few questions ... Is it possible to map so i can use the Left-thumbstick instead of the D-pad?
I also wonder if its possible to edit so the program boots straight to the ROMlist???
Thanks again for a REALLY nice program!!!

Yes. This is allready the default behaviour. You can use the D-Pad or The left thumbstick. They both work (simultaneously).

Yes. It starts in wherever your ROM path is set to in the path.ini. So if all your games are in F:\Games\Emulators\SNES\ROMS, then put that for the ROM path and it will auto start there when the program is loaded.
-
Ok ...now i ve solved those problems ....but i still have one . When im going to choose a game from the ROMlist i can only use L and R trigger . Its impossible to choose because it moves so fast .
Any suggestions??

Hmm I wish this emulator was still being worked on so that it automatically created the paths on your hardrive instead of having to manually put them on the hardrive for a dvd build of zsnexbox to work. I guess I will stick with the other emulator to make my castlevania disc collection. I want to use zsnexbox cause imo it's the best but if i want to go over to a friends house with my different multi gamd dvds I don't want to have to go through the hassle of created these folders on there xbox. I wonder why this feature isn't in the emu. Do all versions of zsnesxbox have this limitation?
