Post by: Xbox-Scene on April 07, 2006, 11:29:00 AM
XMugen-linux Beta v0.4-- Posted by XanTium on April 7 13:29 EST Darcelf/Alg5 released a new version of XMugen-linux(info), that's M.U.G.E.N for Xbox. It's not a port but instead it's a linux distro reduced to it's minimum in order to launch M.U.G.E.N for linux on Xbox. What's new/fixed: * XMugen-linux on CD/DVD support. * New cache management on Z drive automatically created with size of 512 MB instead of 128 MB. * More controllers supported, like Xbox360 controller and various arcade style stick.

Please just post comments about what needs to be fixed or could be changed in this thread. If you have a problem with Xmugen please make an individual thread. 50 some odd pages is hell to sort through for answers. It'll make it easier on all of us.
BTW great work on 0.4!

Even in .3 I was getting perfect gameplay with about 500 of the best characters . This port rox the only thing it needs is an automated boot sequence .

The 360 pad is a nice thought, but as it is, you might be disappointed. I can't get it to use the 360 pad and another controller at the same time, eliminating 2 player support. Also for whatever reason (possibly bad drivers?) its hard for me to pull off supers with it. I can do normal motions just fine, but supers are near impossible for me. I use this same pad on my pc with no problems whatsoever, so its either a joy2key issue or bad drivers.

Yes. Thats a Linux issue. Just use Xmugen Renamer on your characters, stages and music.

did you try to swap the usb port position of the two pad (normal & 360) ? what was the result ? i will try to generate 3 bzimage to test that could make both controller works at the same time
there is something strange about 360 controller/driver which i didn't look at...

I tried moving my 360 pad around in the ports, as well as having 2 other controllers plugged in. Linux would detect all of the controllers, but the 360 would always be controller #1, and I couldn't get the others to respond.

However, CD/DVD won't work. I'm sure there are some tweaks on the CD mounting and swap system.

Hadn't tried that before as you can't use the 360 pad to navigate XBMC or Gentoo loader. It detects the 360 pad 3 times, and boots Mugen as normal.

Does anyone have the mugen.cfg file that has the correct settings to skip the screen resolution. Because I try to edit it changing the fullscren to =1 and depth to 16. But I still get the resolution screen and controller issue.

Small problem. I finally managed to get this working of a dvd (with the bizimage and irdloop. linked, thanks) but when I go to the select screen, i noticed that all the charcters i put in the folder, are not there except for karate man (which came with the pack) same for the stages. Do they all need to be in charcter folders and not sub folder of the character folder?

I posted this in the FAQ thread, but it looks like is this a more relevant place to put it, sorry.
I am loading XMugen off of the HDD, and select FatX at the Gentoox screen. Linux says:
(Forgive the typos, I had to swap to composite cables to make it work and the res is difficult to read)
Adding Swap: 52420OK Swap Space (Priority -1) bdah: Bad Access Block = 0, Count = 1 end request: I/O Error, dev 03:38 (hda), sector 0 Mount: Mounting /dev/hda56 on /cdrom failed: Invalid Argument umount: /cdrom Invalid Argument Mount: /dev/hda is write protected. Mount Read-Only cdrom: open failed mount: mounting /dev/hdb on /cdrom failed: No Medium Kernel Panic: Attempted to Kill Init!
At this point the green light on the xbox blinks and it hangs forever. Any ideas?
I have a regular xbox, 64mb ram, etc. 1 S-Type controller plugged in, nothing fancy.
I also tried the irdloop.gz you linked above, with different yet similar results. The newer one returned more lines about the CD Drive, and still crashed. I can type that all out if you need it.

I dont have an DVD in the drive, but I didn't know I needed one? I have E:/mugen.cfg, the other 2 files under E:/mugen/x.xxx and then the rest of the files at F:/apps/emulation/mugen/. Do I need to burn something on to a disc as well to get this to work?
Thanks for the quick reply =)

loading & booting are slower. gameplay is approximatly the same.
why do you add a link to the bzImage ? normally, the bzImage included in beta4 has the L & R assigned to the same button as black & white....

OK I know this sounds like an annoying question. especially to those who know mugen, but can some one please tell me how to add characters and stages to this pack? After putting them into the folder, what other text file do i have to manipulate in order for the charcaters, stages and music to show up in the game? Could someone give a visual example as well? Thanks for the help.

Alright, im a long time reader first time poster. And i have a few of questions on Xmugen. First off i think xmugen is great , i gotta give it up for the ppl that made this possible Alg5,Guybird,Vejita, r1sky and all the others. Great job!!
Now, i have been testing xmugen v0.4 for 2 days now(i know it dont seen long) and managed to get it working somewhat. I ran into so many errors, errors and more errors like: joy1 input not opening, are you sure there is joystick support in kernel? Attempted to kill, bla bla.......ect. ect.
By the time i just got it stareted,(actully load the in game screen)little did i know i was in for more countless hours of tweeking with settings. Renameing lowcase, fix controls so 1 player dont move 2 player as well. Any way Thanks to these forums and other post from ppl, I have had sucess. I got it to boot off Cd and Hdd, although i perfer Dvd .Hdd just loads faster.
Now for my questions:
I know this is still in beta stages but, Can xmugen run without crashing all the time? I mean the max number of different matchs i get are like 3-4 then it crashs. Is this a ram issuse? Or is this sumthing i did wrong? I have about 266 Characters and about 4 stages , i plan to remove a lot of the charaters some never work, like Motaro from mk. My Xbox is stock 8 gig Hdd and 64 ram if that helps. Any thoughts on the matter would help out thanks to all.

After many dvds, I finally got a sort of working iso of the latest mugem, but the problem is that i cannot seem to replace the screenpack it came with, for another. The the one it comes with only allows me 7 out of the 500 characters i put in it. IM not sure if i managed to type the charcter file right in the select def, but if someone can please show me how, I would much apprectiate it. Keep up the good work guys. my method based off of ryoawins code will work best that way.

The tag battle idea is neat, but I would only be interested in it ONLY IF the tag would be implemented via a seperate tag.cns file and a seperate character.def file to put into a different screenpack's select.def. This would ultimately mean that you can use a character multiple ways (2 on 2 simultaneously or MVC tag style) depending upon which .def file you link to. I'm not sure how much if any coding would need to be modifed beyond adding in the tag.cns, but if it was a simple copy and paste job, I'd be willing to do it. Only other problem is that I prefer the EVE style best, but would like to load the MVC style as a secondary option. The only way this would be possible is below.
Alg, knowing that you obviously know a little bit about linux and scripting, would you be able to whip a very basic script that would allow for the following:
1. Would be centered around a new .def file, probably best named screenpacks.def 2. You would enter in the names of your screenpacks and their locations (most likely /mugen/data/screenpacknamehere) 3. Script would present the user the option to select a screenpack via dpad left/right or up/down 4. Script would modify mugen.cfg with the name of the selected screenpack into the motif section 5. Instant benefit as all Xbox users would finally be able to manage multiple games in one (MK, MVC style, Everyone VS Everyone, Capcom Vs SNK, etc)
Seems to me it would be a very easy script to write, and even if you weren't capable of writing it, someone else could write it, but you would have to implement it, as I have had no luck of modifying your launch file with any success. This is what everyone TRUELY NEEDS as with the xbox, your only other option of changing screenpacks/options is via modifying the mugen.cfg via FTP. Please give us your thoughts on this, and if you would be capable of writing said script. If not, someone else surely can as it shouldn't be rocket science. Only other thing to remember is that the script would have to be loaded AFTER joy2key but BEFORE xmugen. That way you would have the ability to select the screenpack via dpad or other button combinations.

i can understand what you mean as far as a separate cns file but i've tried it and it seems not to work , i uploaded the faq. the version 2 faq will tell you how to do the separate cns file but i am telling you it won't work right cause the character won't load saying error in cns file. http://s52.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=27UH74C...AN1H00ZJM8FJNEG

Yeah he's pretty good at batch file editing and making simple gui's. He's currently bored as he's done all he can with his Xmugen renamer, and is helping me to make a simple convertor/renamer for my emulator art packs. I'm sure if the process itself is simple, he could pull it off pretty easily. When it comes down to it, some simple scripting can solve most of our problems, its just a matter of translating what ideas we have to scripts.

I'd leave the stcik stock and wait for a driver. but modding arcade sticks is a lot easier then regular controllers. As for the whole new script, couldn't you just add an additional option under the team battle? Something along the lines of
single simul turns tag-out
that's how I'd like to see it done. Not sure why you'd do all that screen pack stuff. Seems like it'd just get in the way... Unless that's how single, simul, and turns is set up?? And if you couldn't add it, would it be possible to swap it out with turns or single for that matter?

I see that the xmugen scene is on fire, which is really awesome. Good luck to all those involved. I don't mean to be a constant annoyance, but so far no one has responded to any of my posts, and I have wasted 23 dvds trying to get xmugen to boot properly. Currently i have it running, with 200 stages from guybird's xmugen torrent, and only 6 of the 500 charaters from his release as well. I don't know what im doing wrong, as I added all the character folders in the proper place, and copy pasted all the stage and charcter configurations to the select def, and this is the best it can come to. Can someone (maybe r1sky) come up with a step by step guide on how to make the latest xmugen work from a dvd with all the characters and stages (paticularly from guybirds realease or any charcters in general). Also maybe include how to get other select packs and fonts to work as well, seeing as how some have more charcter slots than others. Please respond, as I have already spent alot of time and dvds to end up with less than minimal results.

Don't I wish it were that simple. As it is, Mugen can only do 1 on 1, 1 on 2 simultaneously, 2 on 2 simultaneously, and then "team" battles where your character changes after one dies. Traditional MVC tagging is NOT natively running in Mugen. So your only option is to modify the characters to support the tagging. Problem is that if its turned on, even if you pick 2 on 2 simul mode, your character with the tag enabled with jump out until you switch. So as it stands, I don't use tag characters as I prefer simul play. Since unless OpenMugen gets done soon (which it won't) and enables MVC tagging in its engine, you're stuck with modding the characters to support it. So having a secondary tag .def file that you'd reference into a seperate MVC screenpack is the best option.
It is possible that you could write a script that could enable tagging in characters that have it, BUT when you have a lot of characters, it would make Xmugen take forever to boot everytime you change the tag mode on/off. It would be much much simpler to just make a seperate screenpack with these tag characters, and select different screenpacks instead. This allows for people to have multiple screenpacks or full conversions without having to have multiple copies installed. So all of the MK Vs SF, and MVC3 mods could be easily played as they were intended without having to go through the Everyone Vs Everyone motif which is fun, but can be greatly underbalanced.

Im not familiar with guybird's pack, but I'm pretty sure if you read the pinned FAQ thread you should be able to get it working. More then likely you're not editing the right select.def. There's usually one inside /data/ and another inside /data/"your_screenpack"/
Most of the info is writen for you to read dude. r1sky posted a tutorial and guybird's faq couldn't make it any simpler. There's just more then one thing that could be doing it. If you jump on efnet and join #Xmugen there are a couple guys, including myself, that can talk you through it. If we dont respond right away, just idle... we are people and have lives away from the internet. My advice to you is to try and get it running off your hdd or a dvd rw then burn it onto dvd r.

Well r1sky has gotten it to work and has posted a how to on Xmugen Spot. I plan to test this myself with my pack, and release a dvd update pack for people still having issues. If you can't wait for that, you can always follow his guide and do it yourself.

alg5, I got an arcade stick that doesn't seem to be supported. It's a Radica Gamester. This is it. It's great for the money and I'm thinking of buying two more to mod. Please tell me if you can get support for this joystick in Xmugen.
When I load up mugen it finds my S-Controller and doesn't locate the gamester joystick at all.

I recall a post a few threads back on the old one someone was working on labelling all the numbers for the keys/joysticks for mugen.cfg
I am still having a hard time getting 2 player to work right, the controllers get wacky and want to press buttons on their own when I am assigning buttons. I almost got it perfect except the two player low kick was the same as low punch.

im using beta 4 now and it works! however, it still give some errors and work in controller slot 2 only with a controller s in slot 1. if crashes if it is the only controller plugged in or if two of them are plugged in [in any case if no controller s is present]. here is what its saying now:
usb.c: unable to get device descriptor (error = -32) hub.c: unable to get hub descriptor (error = -32) hub.c: hub configuration failed for device #7 usb.c: USB device 7 (vend/prod 0xc12/0x9901) is not claimed by any active driver.
as mentioned, its better than the previous version but now it gives the faulty hardware and the above mentioned error.

this is the id for the doa4 arcade stikc for xbox 360
usb.c: usb device 12 (vend/prod 0xf0d/0xa) is not claimed by any active driver
also is there a way to map the trigger buttons separately? cause on the doa4 stike the shoulder buttons are near the back and start buttons.
and something that could help the xmugen for xbox.. is there a way to dump the memory?
the longer i play the slower the loading after like 40 matches or so. then is eventaully crashes. is there a way the swap file can dump out loaded info?

usb.c : USB device 5 (vend/prod 0xe4c/0x1103) is the gamester arcade stick.
For those of you not sure how to find the vend/prod number have the joystick plugged in and make Xmugen crash. Hitting the back button on the main screen is the easiest way. It should be listed around the center of the screen.

follow the directions: everything i did to get tagging for my mugen:
from what i understand it disabled doing the isuka 4 players on screen at once but it's a fair trade.
copy paste under the the right section in the cmd file
Super Motions":
[Command] name = "DoubleDragon" command = ~D, DF, F, c+z
[Command] name = "DoubleDragonCounter" command = ~B, DB, D, c+z time = 10
; -| CPU Commands |------
[Command] name = "CPU1" command = D, D, U, U, D, U time = 1
[Command] name = "CPU2" command = D, U, U, D, D, U time = 1
[Command] name = "CPU3" command = U, D, D, U, U, D time = 1
2/3 Button Combination":
; - | PartnerChange |----------------------------------------------- [Command] name = "troca" command = z+c time = 1
i need that guy who made the auto renamer maybe can can make something out of this.

Hey alexlexus, you should really sign up on Xmugen Spot. You could post most of this stuff in your own thread, and probably be seen by more people.
To Alg or anyone else out there that knows a bit about Linux file editing: As most people are aware, r1sky has been trying pretty hard to get a working copy of Xmugen on DVD. One thing led to another, and someone tried to edit the launch file to point to another file name. Sure enough linux came back and said it was "missing files" when it tried to boot. This is exactly the problem me and jrbush were having when trying to compile another joy2key to run via command line. Every time you edit that launch file in something like notepad, it would make linux not be able to find the file. So what program/method should we be using to edit that launch file? Once this is solved, then the scripting and other testing would really be possible.

Well, setting up the joystick is pretty easy for player one or two with a regular S-controller. go into options and get into the input configure/key config mode. hit F1 and map the buttons. Remember, the set up is a little weird. X Y Z = the punches, A B C = the kicks, light to fierce. Once you have it the way you like (after testing it out) write down the way it's set up IE
CODE
Up A Down W Left Q Right S A , B / C L X . Y " Z ; Start Enter
Is the way I like it set up. On the s-controler X=LP Y=FP A=LK B=FK LT=MK RT=MP Start=Start (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) You'd want your player 1 to be set up like
CODE
Up A Down W Left Q Right S A , B / C " X L Y . Z ; Start Enter
To have your kicks on the bottom. Second Player for you would be set up as
CODE
Up E Down R Left T Right Y A U B O C D X P Y I Z M Start K
You can set it up using the regular controllers because you have to have F1, you back out to the main Options menus go down to Load/Save and hit right untill it says save and save it. It should be set up every time for ya. Restart with the DOA controller and enjoy.

since we are postng button configs for xmugen. here is mine. the buttons are setup this way.
on the xbox controllers:
X = LP Y = MP
A = LK B = MK
shoulder triggers;
L = HK R = HP
now the code thats mapped to both controllers and with start being the taunt buttons. note: using the latest bzimages, the start buttons do not conflict with one another.

looks like you 2 are trying to boot from cd/dvd. i think those 2 issues, "cdrom: open failed mount: mounting /dev/hdb on /cdrom failed: No Medium" are related from loading mugen from a cd/dvd.

You probably have your stereo set for Digital input, when Xmugen/Linux only supports analog.

bzImage and irdloop are two files that contain the Linux kernel & drivers that are running in the background so that mugen can run. We are actually pretty lucky to have semi-regular updates which we can test out, rather than having to wait months in between releases. If you don't want to upgrade those files, that's your choice but you might be missing out on some new features. On the other hand, they are works in progress so it might break other stuff. I can't really help you though unless you tell us your problem. All I can do until then is to reccomend you read the Xmugen FAQ which is stickied in the Emulator section.

I had a problem with her... and then it just went away... I didn't realy do anything to fix it. I had her selectable, get to fight with her, and if I did a certain move it'd crash xmugen. It happend more then once so I know I wasn't pressing any bad keys or anything. Then one time it just decided it was gonna work, so I said fine by me. Haven't had problems with her since.
fabexmax if you need personal attention get on irc and join #xmugen in efnet. me and r1sky are usually always idling, but there are a few more regulars like C-PiMP and Stig87 and [ImOk] that can help ya out if need be. Just try and wait it out if you dont get a responce immediatly. But like guybird mentioned if you don't tell us what part you're having trouble with we can't even guess on how to help you.

it might be something you did. but also, check the renamer, sometimes the first couple lines like "author" or mugenversion will make them look like "author = " or something or another. that might be the error. i believe its some bug with the renamer that hasnt been fixed. so check on that. i asure you that about 98% of any character you can get your hands on will work. the exceptions are only a few characters that dont work due to they were programmed with dos mugen in mind and some that need a "Explodmax" value higher then what normal mugen handles.

Been almost over a year since I played around with Mugen. And ya know, I actually missed pitting B.B. Hood against Mai. I haven't had any hangups so far with XMugen-linux, other than the non-reboot thing, and the fact that I had to hunt around for that msvbvm60.dll or whatever it is that XMugen-renamer needed. Apparently, Wine doesn't have a linux equiv to it...

and if that exit comand would be great but i think is still early to talk about that

has anyone hexed the mugen executable so that f1 is not needed? or released a joy2 key that doesnt have it as thumbstick button 2 .
for those of use using hacked arcade controls . or gamester reflex sticks
the start button is somewhat useless does anyone have a file that uses start as f1?
sorry to bug but ive been out of town and read through the pages ive missed with no luck .

use the files from the the beta4 files. for me, the L and R shoulder buttons works fine on both controllers. both controllers have the start button mapped and do not conflict with each other. unfortunetly there is no F2 yet. you will need to remap these manually by editing mugen.cfg in notepad or using that "trick". perhaps odb can shed some light on how to use controller 2 to remap controller 2 keys within mugen.
Title: XMugen-linux Beta v0.4
Post by: Odb718 on April 25, 2006, 05:39:00 AM
Nuroravage, the start button is used for the taunt move. Some characters like evil ken use the taunt button to do different moves. So it's not useless in the leaste. I'd like to see a PC app made so you can define your own joy2key.
here's my trick to mapping controller 2 inside xmugen.
REMAPING CONTROLLER TWO
1st make sure your player 1 config is set up properly. Safe that mugen.cfg as something else, like Originalmugen.cfg
2nd run xmugen and enter options/input config/key config/ You'll see that both player's configs are listed and it says to press F1 to configure player one and F2 to configure player 2. Press the right thumbstick on player two. (F1) and you'll start to configure player 1's controlls with player 2's joystick. You want this. Once you're done with your configuring, exit out to the main menu and use training to test the controlls out. If they're set up the way you want, enter options and scroll down to Load/Save, press right to change it to save and press A to save it. Turn off the xbox and reboot.
3rd you're going to have to get the newly saved mugen.cfg off your xbox's hdd. (FTP) Open the new mugen.cfg and scroll all the way down to [P1 Keys] and copy what's under it and close it. Open the old mugen.cfg (Originalmugen.cfg) and scroll all the way down to [P2 Keys] and put then new keys in it's place. Save it
4th, Upload Originalmugen.cfg as mugen.cfg, overwriting the mugen.cfg that's there. If you upload it as Originalmugen.cfg... well it just wont do anything. Make sure you're using the right mugen.cfg files. If you have a screen pack, get the cfg it's looking for. Load up Xmugen and the 2nd player's joystick should be mapped the way you want.
Long and drawn out? yeaup. Untill we get F2 on P2's right thumbstick this is probably the easiest way to do it.

thanks for the tip, but thats not my problem, my problem is getting F1 off of the thumbstick . heres another way to do it . go to key config go through the buttons . it will give you all the letters. write down p1 keys and p2 . start up winmugen on your pc. input the p1 and p2 keys , save. open mugen.cfg go down to keyboard copy and paste over to your xbox mugen.cfg - its how i was able to fix the keys as i dont use s controllers
also to get rid of the horribly word wrapped mugen data files. open them with worpad and save them as text . it reformats them properly ..
i need to edit joytokey to change start to f1 .. mapping it in mugen does nothing. it has to be done outside of it . most arcade sticks are useless if we cant get past the f1 screen. because we dont have a thumbstick button
can anyone help. has anyone done it . or hexed the mugen executable . , some of us trying to build stable games dont use the overpowered characters like evil ken or neo dark chunli . so theres no loss of mapping to start

I wish the stupid F1 screen wasn't there but I dont think it's going away anytime soon. It'd be sweet to see it hex'd to be a regular button used for fighting though. r1sky he's just saying that evil ken and such are just too over powerd for the type of mugen he wants, and that loosing the taunt button isn't a big deal to him. The way mugen is set up in general is screwy. Having the esc button as the back out button is just plain stupid to me. Why not the home or delete button? Something that's not going to close the app if you press it one too many times.

Ok recently I've come accross a problem and Im not sure why it's happening. I boot up Xmugen and it gets past the gentoox loading screen, gets to the black linux screen. It finds the dvd drive and the audio then it ends up getting stuck at one point.
CODE
NVIDIA nForce Audio found with 6 channels, AC97 codec, and 48Khz only playback. nVidia Corporation nForce USB Controller nVidia Corporation nForce USB Controller (#2) USB HID support drivers Linux TCP/IP Compressed image found for ramdisk. Mounted root filesystem of type: ext2. FATX: fatx_raw_scan_nonroot : start sector 0 not in use Filesystem panic (dev 03:36). Fatx error File system has been set read-only rm: descend into directory `/mnt' ? MS Xbox Controller S found.
and a blinking box is under the rm: I can't get passed this point, but every once in awhile it'll just work. If anyone has any ideas on wth is causing this please let me know. I've deleted the cache files out of x, y, and z so that's not it.... I have my mugen on F:/... I just got no clue why it would just start doing this crap.

Well the lack of F2 on the second controller is a major problem. and if Xmugen is killing my hdd then that's another one. My hdd was working fine with the same exact set up, but now it wont boot into Xmugen. Everything else on the hdd works perfect. The only problem is Xmugen. I've tried switching xmugen from F to E and I still get the same error.

i think xmugen really need to have a proper exit (i have some ideas), because it could be that who wake your HDD modified, but i'm not sure do others linux distribution works ? indeed it seems it's your cache volume who are corrupted. try to reformat them...

alg5 i got a favor to ask.
i am sure you know about the mugen mvc tag patch being worked on.
on my end of testing things have been fine but here is the snag.
taggin mvc style works perfect cause i have a keyboard and i can hit the control key and 3 0r 4.
but those without keyboards need asscess to crtl button and the 3 and 4 key.
i was thinking about mapping a combination to the right analog stick
ex: hitting left on the right analog stick would be ctrl +3 and then hitting right would crtl+4.
really simple i think and it would help those who are whinning about not having a keyboard for xbox.
whant do you think?
also i noticed the analog if touched soetimes messed up game play the character will have a delay in moment for a few seconds and then return to normal.
what is this that is causing such.

Yeah, We need to have F1 on controller 1 and F2 on controller 2, so we can map out the joysticks in dash and other things. Which I was thinking about. Once Both players controllers have different F1 and F2 Right thumb buttons, couldn't you change the ctrl+3 and ctrl+4 to F1 and F2? I don't think hitting those buttons does anything while fighting... but I could be wrong. I think this might be the best solution to the character switch out.
alg5, I think powering off while in a battle caused something to go wrong with Xmugen. Right now I'm buisy with car problems but when I can I'll try to figure out exactly what the problem could have come from. Do I need to reformat the entire hdd or just the cache partitions? But a proper shut down is needed.

Yes the F2 definitely needs to be mapped to controller 2. There's really no need for the second controller to have F1. Its a simple fix.
I had always thought that having your linux auto relaunch Xmugen any time it crashed out would be a nice fix. As Xmugen can now go a lot longer without crashing, it'd be nice to have it quickly relaunch when it seems to act up after playing for awhile/switching characters.
As for the joy2key, I'm telling you, compile it as you normally would, and pass the options to it via your launch file. You'd have to use different command options than what you are currently using, but they are all listed in the joy2key files. If/when you do this, you'd never ever have to worry about configuring someone's buttons, as they could do it themselves.

Alg, considering that there's not much more for you to do on Xmugen, is there anyway we could get a simple tutorial from you on how to swap out Mugen for some other Linux app? I know it involves unzipping the irdloop.gz, somehow extracting the files from within that, replacing all references to "mugen" to the new linux apps name (lets say "zinc"), and then recompiling and gunzipping the irdloop back up. I know English is your secondary language, but even if you did it in French we could use some translator like Babelfish and be good to go. This would allow others to get in on the "porting" action and see what else we could get to running via Linux, possibly even a winex solution (seems simple enough).
Also with the joy2key, if you could compile it as normal, and replace all of your references to joy2key1 and joy2key2 (your compiles) with the new compile. I could take it from there and figure out the command line mappings (all listed with the joy2key sources) and we'd be good to go. I'm just really stupid on the linux portions, and if I don't have a tutorial, then if I can have someone do the linux portion for me I can figure out the rest.

that's right! All smiles baby! well I've been beta testing / working on UIX V2.0 and there's a new set of functions to repartion the cache partitions X, Y, and Z. Taking the advice of r1sky, and doing what a beta tester does, I tried the functions out and low and behold Xmugen works. If other people get this problem, I suggest using a dash/app that will let you repartition JUST the caches. There's no need to reformat the entire hdd.
alg5, Another major problem is using the thumbsticks for the F1 (and F2) button(s) is the fact that arcade sticks don't have them. So if you wanted to get a serious battle with two arcade sticks, it would be impossible. Most people will only have 1 or wont have an arcade joystick but for those that do, Xmugen would be the ultimate fighter. We need to come up with a solution to using the thumbstick for F1. The way most people like their button set up, is having the L and R triggers for punches and kicks. But some people like B & W for the punches and kicks. Either way there would be two unused buttons. I would like to see 2 joy2key sets made, where one, the L and R triggers would be punch/kick and the B & W would be F1 & Ctrl for the first player. The second player would have the Black button be F2 and the white would still be Ctrl. The second set would be where the B & W buttons would be punch/kick and the shoulder buttons would be F1 and Ctrl.
This would be the best possible set up for remapping the joystick, using arcade sticks, and for the soon to be released (hopefully) tagging controlls. Hopefully it wont be too hard to make the two sets of joy2key files. Or if need be, we can make a poll and vote on which set up more people would like.

hey alg5 not sure if you know about the tag team method in mugen but in order for player1 to control his partner he has to press ctrl + 3 (player 2 has to press ctrl + 4)...is it possible somehow to add these buttons on the controller (if there are enough buttons left), it'd be great if it were possible to add ctrl + 3 to the same button and ctrl + 4 to another button.

Holy crap you did it! I had been trying to get a live linux cd to run on my pc to try to do this myself but have had no luck getting linux to run. Now I believe that with this setup, we should be able to pass any commands/setups to joy2key that we want; the only limit is what commands we can figure out and implement. Biggest on my list to do is button combinations, for ctrl + 3, and ctrl + 4, and PPP & KKK. I'm gonna try this out now. Thanks a lot!
Any thoughts on making a tutorial of how to modify the xmugen setup to run another linux app?

Sorry to double post but here's some feedback:
Since redoing the joy2key this way, button response is MUCH MUCH better, exactly the way it should be. Before it seemed a bit laggy.
360 pad works flawlessly. It is now able to be detected by what port its in; if its in 1st port, then its joystick 1, if its in port 2, its joystick 2. Analog sticks are also flawless (also for regular S controllers).
All in all things are almost as they should be. Few things that should be done to once and for all put the joy2key issues behind us:
Independently map EVERY button for the xbox pads. This means assign individual button actions for both analog sticks (even if in this case the left analog is best to mimic the dpad), and to do the same for the L & R. This will truely allow for user customization. As is, yes the controls are more responsive, but we gain no immediate advantage to reassigning our buttons. Its the L & R, black & white buttons that people really want to map individually.
Also IF you know how (I can't understand the second portion of what you posted) to allow for multiple keys to be assigned to one xbox button, please post an example. For instance, in fighting games PPP and KKK are pretty much necessities. So I would like to have keys 38, 39 & 53 assigned to button_actions[5]=40; // " btnZ. Don't know how the code would actually look like. Thanks a lot.

ok since the the buttons setup is perfect i just am begging for the ctrl 3 and 4 in one button and that's it. mugen for many will be perfect cause we will have all our controlls for tagging.
now this is what we face...... how are we going to make these controls for arcade sticks? i had the idea to map it to a diraction on the right analog stick but that won't work for stick useser like myself.
i think it should be done like this.......
combo of the start and one of the trigger buttons. holding start and hitting a trigger should press
ctrl ,3, and 4 and having tag enabled this way will eliminate the need for a keyboard altogether for xbox users.
alg5 if you do this then the joy2key should be finished. all that would need to be added to is the bziamge for more controllers.

I dont like that idea. The back button and start are entirely too close to each other for me and my freinds to be pressing constantly. I don't want to be kicking some one's face in and have them "accidentaly" back out of the fight.
If every button was mapped individually then anyone could decide what they wanted, and where. I personally want to see the Black, White, L trigger, and R trigger be independant. I'd like to see something like Guybird said where we could map multiple key presses to one button. A lot of fighters will let you have one button for all 3 kicks, or all 3 punches, or medium kick + medium punch, and on and on.
alg5, what does the variables argc and argv represent to linux? Is it on a button press? So if the 15th button is pressed, all of the other buttons would be able to be mapped different? Please help me understand what the if(){} function parts represent. I know what atoi is, but Im not sure what printf(" Using parameters.\n"); or argc or argv is used to do. I just felt like posting the contents of "rawscancodes" and "launch" for anyone that would like to see the connection between the two files. unless I misinterpreted the original message, the scancodes that alg5 placed in th launch file - as he mentioned - correspond to the button mapping currently available to the xbox buttons.
So the final step is to map the multiple scan codes to one button, if that is possible. Maybe its possible to change the actual tagging controls to map to xbox buttons, instead of the other way around. Speaking of tht, does mugen support PPP and KKK?
Forgive me if I don't make sense. I'm just getting into the technical side of this. launch

First of all, people need to realize how great joy2key is. I use it on my pc for almost every game now, even if the game supports joystick configuration in game. Here's why: Since you can make almost any combination of keys to 1 or multiple buttons, you can program functions that may or may not exist in the application you're using joy2key in. For example, PPP & KKK. Mugen does not natively support these functions. So how would you get a button to do that you say? Easy, you first define your punch buttons. Lets say that button 1 = LP, button 2 = MP, and button 3 = HP. To make a "PPP" button, you would want to program a key that presses buttons 1+2+3 at the same time. You'd then repeat the process for the kicks (4,5 & 6) to make KKK = 4+5+6. For a charge button (usually both mediums in Mugen) you'd program buttons 2+5. For normal MVC tagging, buttons 3+6. So for those with arcade sticks that would want F1 or F2 programmed to a button combo, I'd do some crazy combo you'd never ever hit like "Left+1+6" or something like that.
In any case, I've tried every possible combination in my launch file, including what was given by Alg, using the -buttons option, and even trying to use a joy2keyrc file (one was supplied with the source, joy2keyrc.sample). So far I've had no luck in getting those changes to affect the in game mappings. I'm under the impression that although you're popping in the config numbers in the launch file, that your original key mappings are still saved in the joy2key1 & joy2key2 files. So regardless of what is configured via the launch file, your original settings will still overide them. I'd like to see an original compiled joy2key file. Unmodified so that we can just run all of the config options via the launch file.

argc is the number of the parameters. argv[1] is the 1st parameter, argv[2] is the 2nd parameter... so basically, is there is 14 parameters, i initialise a table with all the scancode passed as parameters.

my x-arcade stick doesnt work, i have the 2 players version, how can i fix this problem? me and my friend would love to get some matches going, funny thing is i only own one xbox controller, so as of right now, playing with this 2 player x-arcade stick would be the only way for both of us to play.
i need the id in order to add it. when you escape mugen, linux will display the Id who are not claimed by kernel. you need to remove all others usb devices, like dongle, mem card...

Hi alg5 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) i was really wondering why mugen crashes automatically (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) since i have seen your post with those butons_comands and i have seen this button_actions[12]=16; //Q left i think the q button should not be configured cause i think winmugen and linux mugen have a prob with that button cause sometimes when i run winmugen on my pc and and i press 'Q' winmugen crash i think the same think hapen to linux mugen would you try not to remap the q button as a comand use somthing else insead also im convinced for that cause so many times when i press the left joystick linux mugen crash
I will try to test all the buttons in winmugen to find if there are any other button like The 'Q' that crashes winmugen (Winmugen Is A port of linuxmugen the bugs should be the same)

I have no idea why the Q button would crash out either Mugen. I've never experienced it myself as I map QWERTYUIOP to Player 1 and ASDFGHJKL; to Player 2.

Unmodified so that we can just run all of the config options via the launch file.
you don't need the -buttons. pass only 14 parameters as my example and it should work. i tried inversed the two first number, and it invert the right & jump. so it should be working

Sorry if i said i think but is i was trying to tell that it hapens not all the time
i dont know why your mugen dont crash but mine crash 100% when i press the 'Q' button in winmugen and 100% in xmugen-linux when i press the analog stick left and when i press the joypad left so i think is one of the reason that mugen crash ihave been testing the all the buttons in winmugen and just the Q button crashes mugen is like a quit or somthing
so please try to use another button in xmugen-linux instad of the Q

there seems to be a problem, my arcade stick cant simulate the pushing in of the analog stick on xbox controller, which means i cant get passed the F1 thing.... just wondering but how come we are using the old mugen which has the start up screen and my mugen on my pc never has that screen asking me to press F1. so as of right now i dont know whether my x-arcade stick works or not cause i cant get pass that intro screen that says "press F1 to continue".

With the new joy2key1 that alg5 posted above, YES!
alg5, can you also release joy2key2 with support for passing arguments via the launch file?
If possible can you make the L trigger and R trigger have different mappings than the black and white buttons?

With the arguements you don't have to worry about what Alg has mapped; your settings will override them. So if you map seperate keys to L &R, and Black & White, they won't be linked.

Alexlexus, you haven't read anything I've posted. Alg's default mappings (L & R linked to Black & White) are still there but ONLY if you don't specify something else in the command line arguements. I'm trying to work on a L3 + Right analog stick right, or something of that nature for the tagging. No sense in losing 2 good buttons for a 1 time pressing at the start of the round. Hop in the #xmugen chat tonight with me.

To anyone interested, I've made a few tweaks to the Xmugen package to in-clude:
* Mugen folder can be named either "mugen" or "Mugen" * Mugen folder can now be placed in "Apps", "Games" or "Emulators" * E/mugen folder no longer required. User can/must place bzImage and irdloop.gz in their main mugen directory * Mugen can now be launched via a direct xbe that uses a local .cfg file to boot. No more need for E/linuxboot.cfg and no more gentoo loader screen * Working screenpack selector by means of multiple xbe's. User can also use different joypad mappings in each, and have different icons for each. Makes for some nice setup options. * Pack also contains latest joy2key files and bzImage
More info and download here. Alg I need to get with you as I have some scripts to implement a restart/shutdown option, but the necessary commands aren't in-cluded in your distro. Also can you check and see if the joy2key2 is really working via parameters? It kept crapping out on me...

here is the deal i need someone to show me how to set the triggers up for crtl and 3/4.
this is what i am looking at:
those who don't use triggers( mainly arcade stick guys)
the set up can go
on both controllers the left trigger button would be crtl
next p1's right trigger is mapped as 3
p2's right trigger is mapped to 4
and we a set.
................. next for those who do use triggers
the white buttons is the crtl on both controllers
and the blacks p1 is 3 and p2 is 4
and that should do it.
can anyone help?

I'm sorry to say that mapping either the left control or right control + 1/3/4 DID NOT work in Xmugen. I tried it in every possible way, and couldn't get control of the tag partner, or of the character in the "Watch" mode. I'm not really sure how we might be able to do it now, as joy2key seemed like a sure fire way...

You're misunderstanding me Alex... I did map both the left control and the right control to both triggers (L & R). I then mapped 1 to A, and 3 to B. Mugen recognized these keys for what they were, and as far as it was concerned, I was really pushing the control buttons. I tried it in every way: Pushing control + 3 during the char's intro, during the begining of the round, during the round and got nothing. I then tried taking control in the Watch mode. I'd select two characters, and start mashing the control + 1 buttons. No response. Are we absolutely certain that the control + * works in Linmugen? I know most Winmugen functions are there but I'm having my doubts about this....

Yeah.
This is the order of the parameters as outlined by guybird:
(Dpad up) (Dpad right) (Dpad down) (Dpad left) (Start) (Back) (A) (B) (X) (Y) (Black) (White) (L3) (R3) (Right analog up) (Right analog right) (Right analog down) (Right analog left) (L trigger) (R trigger)

IT WORKS HAHAHAHA!
I now have WORKING tagging and WATCH mode is like VS CPU mode!
The launch files are modifed from guybirds xmugen 4.5 release and the modified controls are for joy2key1 currently. Left Trigger is CTRL and the Right Trigger is either 1 or 3. Replace your current launch file and makesure you are using xmugen 4.5. Also makesure the AllowDebugKeys setting in your mugen.cfg is set to 1.
launch-ctrl-1 - Use this to make WATCH MODE act like a VS CPU mode. Basically WATCH MODE is CPU VS CPU but when your character is doing the intro before the match, press both triggers down once and you control player 1 essentially meaning you can choose your opponent and fight on any stage you like against the CPU
launch-ctrl-3 - Use this for player 1 to assume control of tag player during the intro by pressing both triggers after patching your character with the Tag Team Workshop patcher.
The only thing left now is assigning multiple keys to one button in joy2key.
Have fun.

I did figure out the Tag controlling too, and the issue was NOT my joy2key setup but you have to enable debug controls in your mugen.cfg. I'm posting the setups on Xmugen Spot if anyone wants to see the code used and to apply it to their setup. For the most part, I'm going with 2 setups:
For normal S controllers, L3 = control, A = 1 & B = 3. So L3 + A = take control in watch mode. L3 + B = enable tagging for player 1. Arcade sticks, R trigger = control, B = 1, Black = 3.
Remember though, Alg's newest joy2key2 doesn't work with parameters like he thought it did. So the only way to get tagging working for player 2, is by mapping a button to player 1's pad.

Just to make sure I understand correctly:
1. In order to enable tagging, mugen must have its debugging controls enabled? 2. The controls you defined below are entered in the launch file? 3. Is this for XMUGEN 4.5?
Forgive me...I'm still new to editing things in xmugen.

1. Yes debug controls must be enabled. 2. You can use vejita's setup which he posted (using L & R triggers) or ones I've created (Using R trigger for arcade or L3 for normal s controller). 3. 4.5 is just the name I gave the pack, as it contains all of the latest updates until now. Well test the D-pad out in another app/game. If it works then you know Xmugen is messed up. You should check some of the led tutorials for diagrams of the joysticks. Even if they aren't the same joystick alot of it will be similar.

replace your bzimage with this one and tell me if it works:
d-pad all = nothing left analog up = up left analog down = down left analog left = left left analog right = right X(xbox A) = / O(xbox B button) = . R1(xbox black) = enter square(xbox X) = L triangle(xbox Y) = , L1(xbox white) = ; start(xbox start) = F1 select(xbox back) = ESC right analog up = nothing right analog down = p1 taunt right analog left = nothing right analog right = / L3 = makes character move right R3 = makes character jump L2(L trigger) = p1 taunt R2(R trigger) = nothing
this might help u understand whats going on on my end. Thank u guys for all the help so far, it seems i am the only one with one of these adapters for xmugen

alg5, can you post a modifed version of XMugen's Linux kernel which has the flicker filter disabled?
The flicker filter setting in Linux works for Xbox's with the Conexant video encoder (v1.0 to v1.3).
Here is information on the flicker filter setting:
Does the XMugen linux kernel use XBV? If not, can you add it and then add the disable flicker filter setting DIS_FFILT 1 to the script?

Indeed, the HID driver accept to handle you stick before the kernel ask to the xbox stick driver. I need this HID driver, so i don't see what can i do.

Just look at all of Xports emulators. They all have a flicker filter setting and on a standard 480i TV, disabling the flicker filter makes things look clearer
Even SNK's latest games on the Playstation 2 like KOF2003 and Neo Geo Battle Coliseum have a flicker filter setting.
Can you post a modifed XMugen with flicker filter disabled? Is it possible?

Everything works except the d pad. I have a ps2 to pc (win xp) adapter would the driver for that help you at all?

I know you all are talking about modded game controllers and such, but i have an original and S-controller and neither one of them will work with Xmugen!! It boots the linux code fine then the game and i sit through the title screen and then it says press start, i press start a billion times, doesn't work, then try other controller, doesn't work......any ideas? Should I just delete the files and put them back on there? It is 2.5gb lol

i cna't believe how old this topic is? i only notice its on the front page weeks ago. and i was thinking this must be the "newer bug free mugen". man i was wrong.
does anyone know how to change start button for pause? right now i think the black/white button is Pause I forget which but lets assume black = pause.
everytime i tries to change button config in options, but they never saved. so... does anyone know how to change key like this for me?
instead of Left shoulder = strong punch, i want it nothing instead of Right shoulder = fierce kick, i want it F1
make white button = strong punch, instead of nohting make black button = fierce kick, instead of pause make start button = pause instead of something weird.
is this possible?

I've got something new to embark on since the site has gotten closed.
(they have a mugen wiki now.
Mugen-wiki.com
I'm going to add an Xmugen Section there. it would be nice if i had some of the old vets to come and help fix this thing up.

hey guys, last time i came here i got some much appreciated help. and thanks to you guys that have been here since the beginning, us noobs are getting this stuff finally. well anyway, my question is: i downloaded the peter griffin character from family guy and the homer simpson character and they work perfectly on my winmugen, but when i burn them (after putting them in renamer and such) i get an error message after the VS. screen giving me an error message, it reads: "/static/ash: can't access tty; job control turned off , then theres a series of stuff and then it reads: "initialization complete, entering main loop, "C to exit... now i only get these on the cartoony characters. i get them to work on my winmugen but for some reason they're not working on my xmugen, any ideas? suggestions? advice? a little help here! haha, i would love to get some input on this, as i didn't find anyone else posting such a problem at least under the several searches i performed here and in the web. most problems people face are in winmugen, but they work there, it's when dealing with xmugen, that the difficulty occurs. you can hit me up at [email protected] if needed. thanks in advance, hope to get this baby up and running. oh and i think some of the best soundtracks would be dragonforce songs, they're so wicked i edited some songs to loop and it just rocks!

hey, well i managed to get my stuff up and running, but i can't get a lot of characters to work. i did some reading and tried looking for a program that's supposed to change the dos-mugen characters to win-mugen characters, but no luck. the few leads i found were dead links. if someone could be kind to send me a link or forward me a copy of the program to [email protected] that would be really cool. thanks in advance!

That's my whole XMugen game. You have to turn on certain things in renamer to sometimes help (movereverse check etc)
But I learned that most people use a version of linmugen in their xmugen that does not support the winmugen coding of movereverse. After you run a char through renamer. Ctrl f all the cns and cmd files for the word reverse. Replace it with the word hit. Also I have found issues recently with some chars causing errors due to infinite change state loops... Almost any char that works in win or dos mugen will work in linmugen (in fact after much study I consider linmugen/xmugen superior becuase winmugen is an ugly hack of winmugen, at times it will just crash for no reason. This will never happen to a properly coded linmugen or xmugen)
Stig great idea!

Sean is your e load v0.4? Also, does it use the lates bzimage? I need one with working x-arcade support. I'm also about to get my id from my QuasiCON2P since that doesn't work. This stick has the analog stick buttons so F1 is not a problem for it! I hope alg5 is still around so he can make a new bzimage for me

it's version 4.9 as per risky. I am sure it uses latest image. If not best. I am sure it has same controller support. I have done some arcade stick tinkering with mugen. Though I prefer stypes at the end of the day it was fun. I would like to make an xmugen arcade cab one day...
Linmugen on XBOX is ideal for an arcade cab. This is due to several reasons. One I prefer the res given by XMugen on a tv screen as opposed to a pc. 2 winmugen is basically a hack of linmugen causing it to be unstable and crash erratically. This is not the case with linmugen or xmugen. This gives it a nice level of stability.
If I was rich and didn't work. My biggest project would be crafting a cabinet and stuffing an xbox with xmugen in it. Then gutting arcade sticks and presto. The sickest cab ever. Sadly I am a wage slave....

alg5 if you're still around here's my IDs:

It has ALL necessary controls including right/left analog sticks and analog stick push-down buttons (F1 is no prob). I guess remapping will be a concern for me. Not sure if in game mapping is possible or if I just have to mess with the joy2key stuff (I think I have alot of reading to do).
I will be using Xmugen 4.9 by R1sky which is an F mugen build (Link kindly provided by sean - thanks bro!). Also the bzimage is from that so I don't know if your bzimage has any difference in partition preference.
Sean, did you have any backups of xmugen nugnug? You still have the domain right? Any chance of the sites return? It would be nice to have a central repository for this stuff again. I'd be willing to help you in any way I can.

F Xmugen works great! Thanks xmugen360!
I noticed if you have XBMC, it won't pickup the default.xbe and won't show up in your menu at all. E: users can just go to file manager and launch it from there or make a shortcut using xbe shortcut maker. F: users can't even launch it from XBMC file manager so I just modified an existing Xmugen loader that uses unleashx. I made a default.tbn for it too for XBMC. It can be used for E: loads too, just edit config.xml.

Ignore that - all you have to do is clear your XBMC thumbnails and have it rebuild. You don't need a launcher. Oh and I just saw an F build fail on an X3 for no reason. Agghhhh it's driving me crazy! xmugen360, from what I've been seeing so far the E build is much more stable and complains less than F - you were right.

yeah it's not impossible. But no thanks! Are you sure that there isn't a comparable product that is in there already? He seemed to be pretty extensive as far as the supported devices. Are you deadset on that device? It's not impossible. But pretty hard. Way past my knowledge.
My only tip? I would work from linmugen not xmugen then go from there....

I have a Quasicade and have been wishing for support ever since xmugen came out. I know a lot of people that have the Quasicades that are drooling for this to work. But I was too lazy to read and eventually too late in noticing about controller requests to bzimage.
I wish there was a way to get a hold of him. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen if your listening alg5 or anyone with the capability

Quasimoto QuasiCON:

OK so what I'm thinking is maybe I can hex edit the bzimage file and swap out vend/prod values to make it think my QuasiCON is an S Controller or some other stick. Maybe I can just grab some values from this thread, search them in hexworkshop and replace them with the QuasiCON ven/prod ID? I really wouldn't know where to start though, everything in hexworkshop is 4-digit hex but my IDs are 0x12ab/0x450. Can someone tell me what 0x12ab/0x450 would look like or convert that for me? Will the vend/prod be right next to each other?

heh, the '4.9' version is based off xbeboot. if your wanting to update/add new devices to the usb side of things. you will need to rebuild the kernel from scratch and modprobe the new devices to the list then rebuilding the xbe. remember to strip the crap out

Working great! Thanks alg5!
I'm able to change button config from the options but when I save and restart mugen it crashes with an allegro error and says something about joy2key. I have to recopy a few files back over to get it working again. I'm not familiar with the intricacies of:
- joy2key files ?? - joypad disabled in options even though my controller still works ?? - text file included with xmugen that tells you how to edit the joy2key to work with arcade sticks but mine already works so should I still edit anything ??

indeed reactivity of joypad linux device was not good. that's why i used a keyboard emulation above the joypad driver.
That's the purpose of joy2key. each key of your joypad will be treat as a keyboard key. For mugen, your input is not a joypad but a keyboard.

I am honestly quite happy with XMugen. I think that there are certain problematic things about it. The fact that it is not user friendly per se. but honestly I think it rocks very very hard. I am very greatful to alg5. I wish I could do something to repay him and people like Guybird, Risky, Stig, Sludge, Alpha, and AMOC.
What changes where you looking for Guybird?
It took me a long time to realize that XMugen can run smooth with a top of the line ide hd and running on E with 1gb swap. Once I had my XMugen nicely coded and configured I noticed that it doesn't randomly "crash" like a winmugen setup will occassionally. Any crash is usually due to a disagreement in the coding of chars and the features of linmugen. This makes an xbox xmugen rig ideal for a personal arcade cab.
Working on my XMugen has taught me a whole heck of alot and has been much fun.
Thanks again!! I am quite amazed at how while mugen remains a type of constant in my gaming life I definitely don't spend as much time as I once did on it (dang ps3 and 360 lol) but all the people I introduced it too seem to love it! Sometimes even surprising me in their creativity. It truly is special!
I think efforts should be made to compile linmugen to ppc linux if possible...this is for both potential ps3 and xbox 360 users....

Yeah I hate that about winmugen- crashes no matter what screenpack or compilation you use.
Other stuff that won't let xmugen load: - Widescreen (turn it of from msdash) - HDDs with special partitions made with xbpartitioner (even-split F/Gs on 500s, and 750s) - X3 BIOS: E load works, F load does not (different animal than X2 BIOS)

So true! Because of all of your guys efforts this excellent xmugen build is fully functional on my Quasicade standup! I wish I could paypal you guys or something Almost everyday there is hysterical laughter and disbelief in my shop from people playing xmugen. Something like this should be shared with everyone and I hope it spreads further so more and more people learn about it and release some of their own stuff We should have some kind of picture tutorial here that shows you the important steps for adding characters, stages, music, importance of renaming, listing of standard files and the intricacies of editing them manually and via tools. The tools should be uploaded to xbins too if they haven't already.

untrue. i have 2 xbox's that i chipped. one has my old x2 and the new one with x3. both have hdd's that use custom partitions. 320gb and 500gb. xmugen loads and runs fine on both. using 32k clusters/custom partitions via xbepartitioner on both. works 100% on F or G partitions (using my build btw).

Interesting- It must be something I'm doing then. Are you using even-split F and G or your own settings? I always even split 400+ GB drives. Is there a way to keep standard 130GB F paritioning and still format G and F with 32k? Or does it automatically format w/ 32k if the partition is over 250GB? I always thought you had to even-split it to get it to format to 32k. I'm gonna mess w/ it more when I come back.
If you need seans full E compilation let me know and I'll upload it. Easy to replace needed folders. chars/sound/stages/ and /data?? only I believe

you have to give the ID that are displayed by the linux kernel.
You controller is perhaps seen as a standard joystick. I can't do anything to correct that (it's a faulty hardware).

i looked in the kernel (the screen when it starts up with the picture of the bloke?) and it says usb device not recognised over and over. i can tsee a number - am i looking in the right place.
also i dont have F1 mapped on my cabinet so i cant get past the splash screen anyway.
is there any way round this ie remapping mugen etc?

If you look at your launch file, it should look like this at the bottom (the lines after the # are my comments):
# Here's the default order for buttons with joy2key # ./joy2key (Dpad up) (Dpad right) (Dpad down) (Dpad left) (Start) (Back) (A) (X) ( B ) (Y) (Black) (White) (L3) (R3) (Right analog up) (Right analog right) (Right analog down) (Right analog left) (L trigger) (R trigger)
I made the R3 button which F1 is assigned to bold so you can see how its mapped. If you don't have an R3 button on your arcade layout (I assume this is the problem) you'll simply pick another button and assign 59 (F1) to it.

I have a 27" CRT TV in my Quasicade arcade cabinet. Recently I just changed my S-Video cable with component and everything looks much better! The only problem is Xmugen stopped working. Given that my TV is a CRT, will I be able to do this?:
QUOTE
For those of you with HDTVs and connect your Xbox to your TV with component cables, to play XMugen in 480p simply change video=xbox:640x480 to video=xbox:480p in linuxboot.cfg
Also I tried playing with 480, 720, and 1080 from Ava and XBMC unsuccessfully. I just get a black screen and the Xbox has no video. The only way to get it back is to plug it into my VEG converter that can read all kinds of different video modes, then set it back.

Wow that's an old post...
I'll say ahead of time. Don't give this guy crap for digging up such an old post. He definitely followed the rules of searching for previous answers to a T.
I can't help you at all bro, but hopefully somebody here still messes around with Mugen and can help you out.

Its always been a big headache lol I quit trying eventually.

If you install NAVIX onto XBMC there is a downloads section that lets you download pre-built XMUGENS it also has some pretty good instructions on what to do to get it working.
If anyoneis stuck i'd recommend they try getting it from there...

Mugen must be the most insane thing in the world! I have a working King Of The Fighters 2006 Mugen that I managed to install to E: from a disc, very good fun and all but now I want more!
I tried to get some version with 1400 characters to work that is supposed to be on F: Games, but cant get it to run just keep getting a kill error?
After searching through what feels like a million posts across the globe I find AMOC F: Emulators and that kind of works I get the video intro and the menu selection. However apparently I need to replace the AMOC config file which I have not done yet as there looks to be 2 config sections? F/Emulators/XMugen/ has a config.xml and a config folder with another config.xml can anyone confirm which one I need to replace?
As this AMOC is looking like its going to actually function, what do I need to add to it? Can I put the characters etc from the mugen I cant get started into here?

thanks for digging up an old thread...
anywho... if you talking about the xmugen w/ 1400 characters thats someswhere on the interweb i believe you should have it set in this folder:
f:/xmugen
the e:/ drive should have only a swap file depending on the xmugen made.
i think...
where's vamp-x!! he'd know.

NGBmugen----you need to put this entire folder in F:/Games. You cant have it anywhere else unless you change a certain file to make it look in F:/Emulators or wherever you choose to install it. I've installed it on several systems and everything works just fine, it's just buggy due to 1400 characters. Sometimes the Riskyswap can give you problems, it's says dont delete me on the file but sometimes you have to delete it to work. Also, i've heard of alot of people having problems running this when they have a softmodded xbox. I"ve not been able to confirm this myself since all my box's are chipped or tsop'd. One other factor is to make sure that what ever partition you put it in has not been formatted in 32k clusters. Xmugen does not like custom partitions and only works if the partitions is formatted with 16k clusters. For example: my 500gb drive has an F: with 137gb which xmugen is in and it's the standard 16k cluster formatt. I've given all the rest of the space to G: with only media on it. I hope this will help with anybody having problems with NGBxmugen.
Cheers, Nextelhalo

Ok Both F: and G: are now 136GB with 16K Clusters, done using XBpartioner 1.1 - LBA48 patch v3
It NGBXMUGEN placed in F:Games\xmugen but when I launch it gives me this: filesystem panic (dev 03:37). FATX error File system has been set read-only dd: /mnt/Games/xmugen/swapfile/r1skyswap: No such file or directory mkswap /mnt/Games/xmugen/swapfile/r1skyswap: No such file or directory swapon: cannot stat /mnt/Games/xmugen/swapfile/r1skyswap: No such file or directory mount: Mounting /dev/hda55 on /cdrom failed: device or resource busy unmount: /cdrom: Invalid argument unmount: /cdrom: Device or resource busy mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only mount: Mounting /dev/hda on /cdrom failed: No medium found Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
From what I can see it is looking for a file In my swapfile (F:/Games/xmugen/swapfile/) I have a file called: r1sky.deleteme

No worries man, there is not actually a swap file included with the download. Xmugen creates a swap file the first time you boot it. Try booting with and without that text file that is in the Swapfile folder and see what happens. If you still cant get it to work just google R1sky Swap and there are a few links out there that you can just download the 1gb swap file and then FTP it to the Swapfile folder and you should be set. If you cant find it let me know and i'll see if i can post a link for you.

Here is the one i found on Media Fire. I have not tested this myself i just found. It may work as a 2gb swap file or it might just make a 1gb swap file. I've only been able to get 1gb working. Good luck, if it doesnt work let me know and i can upload my swapfile and send you the link.

I just tried that swapfile on two different builds and it worked fine and showed 2gb in size. I used it on a 550 character mugen and it ran really good and with a 1400 character mugen and it seemed to make it run longer, less buggy.

Right on NGBXMUGEN placed in F:Games I put the swapfile here F:/Games/xmugen/swapfile/r1skyswap and I still get this error
filesystem panic (dev 03:37). FATX error File system has been set read-only dd: /mnt/Games/xmugen/swapfile/r1skyswap: No such file or directory mkswap /mnt/Games/xmugen/swapfile/r1skyswap: No such file or directory swapon: cannot stat /mnt/Games/xmugen/swapfile/r1skyswap: No such file or directory mount: Mounting /dev/hda55 on /cdrom failed: device or resource busy unmount: /cdrom: Invalid argument unmount: /cdrom: Device or resource busy mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only cdrom: open failed mount: /dev/hdb is write protected, mounting read only mount: Mounting /dev/hda on /cdrom failed: No medium found Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!
I tried it with the file called: r1sky.deleteme present and with having delete this, both time the 2GB swapfile was in the same folder (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif) WTF

I was reading back a few posts and I just wanted to make sure that you do not have a swapfile folder in the E: partition first. Also, try running Xmugen with nothing in the Swapfile folder at all. This is really weird that it's giving you those issues with the swap file. I've run through that build and got it to start with and without a swapfile and it worked fine. When it had the 2gb swap it loaded and when i deleted it from the folder and left the folder blank it still booted fine and created a 1gb swap.

NGBXMUGEN placed in F:Games/xmugen
The swapfile is in F:/Games/xmugen/swapfile/
The XBox itself is a black 2003 04 09 model, softmodded & opened by myself. I have kernel version 1.0.5101.1 300GB HDD in 16k clusters UnleashX 0.38.0515A Build 565
E:/ has no Mugen related material on whatsoever F:/Emulators/XMugen has the AMOC emu mugen which I cant get past the intro video, I also have the Broken Mugen that should be in F:/Games/XMugen temporarily stored in G: as again this won't get past the intro video and I have been purely focusing on getting NGBXMUGEN to work.
I have a Crystal XBox with a fully working E: Mugen which was installed from a DVDR.
Tried again with swapfile folder empty still the same error!

That sure is odd. The only thing i can do to help now would be to zip my mugen foler minus the characters and send it to you via email or megaupload and see if it works for you. If you want me to try it just let me know and i'll get it done tonight and send it to you.

Well I got my chipped XBox back and FTP'ed over the files worked 1st time even without the swapfile (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) After playing the DVD install one mind this NGBX is a bit ropey huh? Still have no idea why it wont run on the other boxes but heh I have my uber roster which is all I wanted.
I'l probably stick with the DVD vers for play unless there is a better option I have missed?

Glad to hear it finally worked, this to me still sounds like it's a softmod issue but i could be way wrong here. There is a smaller 550character build of xmugen that you could try too but last time i checked there were not alot of people, if any, seeding that build. I believe it's Xmugen Xtreme 2.0

Have you tried reloading the joykey 1&2 for it? I did find a really good page that I swear I book marked (clearly it is not in there atm), that had a section on the joykeys and something about the swapfile not being required anymore as the irdloop had been upgraded.
