what is xbox 1.6 anywyas? is it the latest xbox in stores right now?
Yes, I believe so. I recently purchased my XBOX and that's the version I have. Here's the strange thing, I have a friend's XBOX currently to softmod and it was one of the first but it's a 1.6 too. I guess an XBOX Live game must've ran an update on it or something, similar to how the PSP receives it's firmware upgrades. If anyone has a different theory or knows this to be untrue altogether, please correct me.

Firmware update to 1.6? I think you are confused. The versions refer to hardware differences in the motherboards and don't have anything to do with firmware. If you go to the XBox-Scene main page and click on "XB-versions" at the top there is a step by step guide on how to identify your version... but you need to open up the box.
Anyway, I just need one or two people to confirm that MAMEoX 128 Plus! doesn't work with a 1.6 XBox so I can add a note about it to pinned topic. I don't have one available to me to test.

@ Thraxen: You're right; I completely mis-typed my comment. What I meant to say it that the old XBOX has the version 4960 dashboard. The XBOX version is 1.0. How could this be?
Several ways actually. One, if you ever connected to Live it will update your dash for you and you don't even have to have a Live account. When MS first added the ability to switch the dash to 480p I connected to Live through the dash and the first thing it did was update my dash and I didn't even have a Live account. Also, many Live enabled games come with dash updates. One of them could have updated your dash. Or if you didn't do the mod yourself the person that did your mod might have updated it... or if you used an installer disc of some sort if may have installed later version.
