Title: Getting Broken Sword I & Ii To Work In Scummvmx
Post by: izotope on June 17, 2005, 02:06:00 AM
Hello
Has anyone had any joy in getting Broken Sword I & II working in ScummVMX (version 6.0b)?
I'm trying the get the 2CD 'Sold Out' (budget label) versions to work on the Xbox by burning them to the harddrive. Unfortunately, this installs to a PC in a very strange way. I've managed to extract the files I need a get the games running on PC ScummVM rather then the Macromedia version supplied by the installer, but the same files don't work on the Xbox version.
In the Broken Sword folder I've got working on PC ScummVM, there are a number of directories:
SPEECH MUSIC Smackshi Smacksho Cluster and the SWORD.EXE file
When transferred over to the Xbox, ScummVM doesn't recognise SWORD.EXE, but recognises the game from the Cluster folder- however when the game is booted I'm kicked out to the Xbox dashboard.
If anyone has this working on the Xbox and could tell me what files they have in their Broken Sword folder, it would be much appreciated!
Another small problem is that there are two Speech files (one from each installer CD), and to have these both on the Xbox I'd need to rename one- any idea what I'd need to do to rename it to to get the game to work?
Many thanks to all that reply

Hi, you're not using the latest ScummVMX. I'm not sure if BS1+2 was supported in v0.6. Try to find a newer version.

Thanks for the link- that list is very useful!
Unfortunately, I won't be able to use the latest edition of ScummVMX until the screen resize feature is reimplemented- damn PAL TV!
Thanks again

Then why don't you just use version 0.6.0, I think it was ported by Guybrush. Screen size adjustment is Left and Right triggers, then Right thumbstick. hit 'a' to confirm.
I'm in the middle of bs 1, but I haven't tried 2 yet.

Or you could use Guybrush's ScummVMx 0.70, which has screen adjust. Carcharius' ScummVM WIP, which lacks screen adjustment, is based on the newest 0.71. Both should be available on xbins.

Broken Sword 1+2 (Sold Out versions) both work with ScummVMx 0.6.0 and that flawlessly.
Here you find a list of all the files scummvm needs to emulate the game and here you can find the cutscene packs that are necessary to get the videos to work (search for Broken Sword).

Broken Sword 3 isn't supported by SCUMM. I assume you mean the xbox version? How is that by the way?

quite good. bit of a change now that they made it 3D. takes a while to get used but it works. I recommend it for any Broken Sword or adventure game fan.
Btw, I cant get Broken Sword 2 to work using SCUMMvm. Broken Sword 1 works perfect.
I put the files that scummvm.org told me to use.
When I select the Broken Sword directory, it says the game cannot be found.
I tried Clusters folder and two games showed up. Broken Sword 2 and Broken Sword 2 Demo.
I selected Broken Sword 2 and when I launched it, it came up with a black screen and small green writing where you had to type. Similar to when a Win98 boot disk is inserted into your PC.
Any ideas?

It works for me. You did the renaming of the music.clu and speech.clu files right...not that I think that would affect loading the game. It sounds like you may be missing some files.

what directories are there supposed to be.
I have in my Broken Sword 2 Folder that I created for the Xbox...
CLUSTERS Video (Obtained from ScummVM Website)
Speech and music were in the clusters folder so I left them there and renamed them Speech1.clu/speech2.clu and music1.clu/music2.clu
Any suggestions?

Regardless of what SCUMM files are required, I just put all of them. I have a big HD, so I don't really care about space. As for my file structure, I have the following folders: BS_Demo, Clusters, directx, Install, Smacks, Sword2, and video. In the main folder I have autorun.INF, Install.INF, setup, and some other files.
There are some *.inf files in the Sword2 folder. As well as the directx folder and in some of it's subfolders. SCUMM "files to keep" states that you need *.inf files.
The only other thing I could think of is if you mistakenly renamed the wrong music and speech clu files.
Hope this helps.

I solved the problem. It turned out that it couldnt find cd.inf so I assigned SWORD2 as an additional path. This worked, however the cutscenes were unable to be shown since it could not access the VIDEO folder.
To solve this problem, I copied all files from the CLUSTER folder to the main directory. I also did this with the SWORD2 Folder.
I was then able to use the main directory instead of the clusters folder... and because I could do this i assigned the VIDEO folder as an additional path and it is now 100% working!!!
Thanks for all your help guys.
I am now going to try getting Full Throttle working on my Xbox using a Full Throttle Macintosh CD. Shouldnt be hard.
