My Skynet original pc game cardboard box says "486 66mhz minimum, pentium recomended"
so i'd have to say no it probably wont run.
then again, for me its not been about playing the games, more the fun of getting them to run on the xbox
i just threw as many games as i could in just to get the list started
and right now who ever posts a game in i'll just add it into the list
as soon as i get the time i'll go hunting for a list of more games for this
not unless someone else wants to post a list of games that i can add on there
I haven't tested these games very thoroughly, but I played them a bit and they seems to work...
Alone in the Dark 1
Alone in the Dark 2
Moonstone
Another World/Out of this World
Duke Nukem 1, Episode Three:"Trapped in the Future"
Future Dimension - Could not get the sound to work, but otherwise ok.
Little Big Adventure - Could not get the sound to work, but otherwise ok.
Wacky Wheels - Feels a bit slow. It should be playable though (the game's requirement is a 386), so it might be that it's related to the game itself and not the emulator.
Fade to Black - Extremely low framrate (~1 fps)
Decent - Extremely low framrate (~1 fps)
Leisure Suit Larry 6 - Starts but for some reason I couldn't get the mouse to work.
Leisure Suit Larry 7 - Starts; mouse cursor appears on black background; nothing more happens (atleast within a few minutes).
run in dosbox default mode. play as well as i remember them
Pac In Time. Mindscape
SuperKarts. Manic Media Productions
Lotus. Gremlin Graphics

Slinky, playable on Atari 8bit emu
just thought i should say right now
the default cpu cycles thing is 3000, so if you don't test your game around 3000 then state that used raised it to whatever
if you don't then i'll assume that you tested at default 3000
you only really need to post it if it really effects the gameplay, for most games im sure people can figure it out and just press the button a couple of times
same for the ram i know by default it was originally 8 megs but im sure most people want to use as much as they can which would be 16
so im going to say that by default the ram is 16megs and if you use something else then that then say so or it will be assumed that its tested useing 16 mgs of ram
as i just found out if you change the settings for one game then everygame will be effected so double check the settings for each game just in case
so don't assume its at default when you go in a game at first
i really havn't used dosbox that much so i don't know alot of the settings to get the game running better besides changing sound and cpu speed
and for no reason at all i'll just post my findings along with you guys just in case someone wants to say something

this list is growing, good work deathx88, and the people posting their findings.
i am surprised that you are having problems deathx88, i have never encountered anything like the problems you are having. apart from not being able to get duke nukem 1 or 2 running, but i figured that it just wasnt compatible.
has xport been informed of these sorts of glitches occuring?
i posted a whole bunch of stuff i his forum, in the dosbox thread
stuff like the configuration settings being the same for all games (controllers and other settings)
and then that protected copyright thing that only happens sometimes
and the screen never seems to stay the way that i re-size
has anyone else had any of these problems
i also requested some save states, which i do think will really come in handy
also, has anyone else tested bio menace, it doesn't work for me and i want to see if it works for anyone else. Its such a good game
Mr Do!,
can you be more specific about your games, its hard for me to add those in without
a color code or you at least saying how they run
saying that they run in default mode could still mean they have problems with the game or so on
Tyrian - works, but doesn't run at normal speed but quite playable
Death Rally - works, but extremly slow

Hello
First time poster, long time lurker.
I have dug out a ton of floppy disks (yeh i forgot what they looked like to) and im busy trying out my fav games.
So far using dosxbox v.8 -
Sam & Max Hit the Road (floppy Disk verison) - Runs with a slight frame rate issue in cut scenes other wise fine
The Secret of Monkey Island 2 : LeChucks Revenge (floppy disk verison) - Runs fine but no sound for me
Loom (floppy disk verison) - Runs 100%
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (floppy disk verison) - Runs fine but no sound
Cannon Fodder 1 - Get an error while loading, might be my fault though
Cannon Fodder 2 - Runs with graphical glitches in between loading screens and no sound
Pinball Illusions - Crashes out at first load screen
Simon the Sourcers - Error on loading
Syndcate - Loads to the bullfrog loading screen then halts, no sound
All these are under default settings
Got a ton more to a have go with, some of my disks are playing up though so couldnt get them to read. Ill post more when i get time to try them.
very good, this list has been built up, however the editing of the root post is now only restricted to moderators so a mod will have to edit the post for deathx88 or people will just have to use the search button to search for a game in this topic. oh well life goes on.
i'm sure some of the games have already been tested, so i'm sorry for repeating any.

Hey guys, how come you aren't using the 'upload configuration' option in the dosxbox emu? I've used this for the games I've got working, but I haven't seen many other peoples configs uploaded...So do it please

Hey man, yeah I know this sucks :( This is why I requested in xport forums that he makes us be able to upload/download configs from our PC'S as well, but so far no reply. This would mean we could use all your hard work ;)
BTW do you use a real keyboard or not?

i have one of those usb/xbox converter cables and just plug a cheap usb keyboard into the box, works great :)
mario - Good, slightly noticable top of the screen garbage. Emulated internal pc speakers sound better then the real thing
Start Control 2 (Use /g:BIOS flag in bat)
Start Control 1 (No JoyStick or Sound)
Yeah! now I can play SC2 Melee on my XBOX and 3DO.
Ancient Art Of War In The Skies
Cool Croc Twins

X-Wing - playable
X-Wing Collector's Edition CD-ROM - sound stutters, framerate jerky; run BWING.EXE from CD to start
Havent played may yet, but I seem to be interested in the ones no one else has posted about;
Dreamweb - works perfectly (I can finally play it after having bad time getting it to work on my amiga and pc)
Bloodnet - seems to work perfectly except I cannot get the mouse pointer moving... yet. Im looking for a patch
Bureau 13 - same as Bloodnet
The Settlers - works perfectly, childhood memories brought back
Heimdell 2 - works perfectly
Gobliiins - I think this is working correctly - I say think, because the sound is a collection of beeps, scrapes and squeals. I am assuming that it was just "that" time.
Gobliins 2 - same as Gobliiins
Goblins 3 - Works perfectly (with proper music and sounds)
Dungeon Keeper - Very slow. Unplayable. I had to find out myself - one of my fav games ever.
Return To Zork (Floppy talkie version) - Works very well indeed, with mili sec of delay sometimes, hardly noticable. I tried to get the cd version working but it refused to.
Thats all I have tried so far.
Bioforge Runs through the first cut-scene pretty good speed, but then comes to the first menu where you choose which combat setting. On this screen the pointer (alien arm) moves at incredibly delayed speed and is differecult to select anything. But when you do, the music carries on for a little while then JUMPSSSS. and its crashed. Tryed many times. Damn shame, really wanted to play this one.

I got One Must Fall to work at a good speed by using Gravis Ultrasound instead of SB, and setting cycles to 5000 (500/500). Not sure if its full speed but its a lot better than it is at default, and better sound quality too!
Indy Car Racing II (CD)- Real bastard to install, works but incredibly slow (less than 1 fps)
Runaway City- Runs fine for the most part, but locks your Xbox at the first bar scene (with your father, the barkeeper and that other woman)
Command And Conquer- Locks at menu
One thing- Why the hell is Quake II in this list? It's a WIN32 executable...Also, I think DOSXbox might spontanously combust trying to play it XD

Does this fix the bad background colours?
Can any1 help me getting both controllers to work independently?
Epic Pinball
I had to run setup.exe to configure the soundblaster correctlly and I had to map the appropriate keyboard keys.

Vamp i found a major bug in the latest version that if your game exe is in a folder that contains any spaces in the file name or path it will run like shit.
try somthing like f:\l6\start.bat and leave all the game files in l6 so there are no spaces at all anywhere in the path name. and mess with the cycles. it plays awesome for me. in fact i got all the sierra games with that engine playing 100% like kings quest ecco quest police quest space quest.
also i have had to problems with messed up sounds in larry 5. they all play 100% for me.
also just for fun try setting the flicker filter at 2 or 3 and turning up the "speed" option in the sierra engine so larry walks all fast and you can fly though the game hehe
and again my girlfriend and i have played though pretty much every larry on the xbox except 7 with 100% speed and sound. and i have tested almost every sierra game with the same results. plus a ton of other games run great also with no spaces in the path name
please let me know how it works out for ya
Ghostbusters 2 - Works at good speed, controls are bad though. Once you get into HQ and select the phone the game freezes.
Grand Theft Auto - Doesnt load up. Gives me error messages in DosBox. London 1961 + 1969....same thing.
Hugo 1 - Works fine, but the screen flickers, and when you type someything in it stays there permanently.

wasteland = works fine, using regular default settings, no need for any changes
NOTE the version of wasteland mentioned was the one included with the "ultimate rpg archives" released by interplay.
Did not test out the older 3.5 versions of the game yet..
Well I am off to a great start, so far the only two games that work for me are two of the lamest games out there:
Strip Poker III
Lemonade Stand
Partially Working Games:
Jill of the Jungle-Gets into the game but once it starts then controls don't work
Sex Vixens-Gets to intro/story screen and then controls don't work
Test Drive 3-Lets you go in and set everything up but controls don't work right before you get into the actual gameplay.
Games THAT DO NOT WORK AT ALL:
Blood-never gets past initial load
Heroes of Might and Magic II-Won't work at all since it needs Windows
Iron Maiden's ED Hunter-Won't work since it needs Windows/Quicktime
Duke Nukem 3-D Atomic Edition-Refuses to load
Command and Conquer-Only had access to Win95 edition and of course it doesn't work
It should be noted though that I haven't played around with the settings much so the Partially working games could work (I think the original post specified that Jill of the Jungle works). So take my findings on those with a grain of salt.

Okay, now I am starting to get the hang of this sucker. I got Heretic running but it is agonizingly slow, barely playable. Doom II would probably work but not really worth the bother seeing as how you can pick it up for the XBOYADVANCE emu and it will run MUCH smoother.
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Adventure, Speechversion, fully working
Discworld 1, Adventure, Speechversion, fully working
Sam & Max Hit the Road, No Sound
Monkey Island 2, No Sound
Indiana Jones Last Crusade Adventure, no saves
Dicworld 2, too slow, way too slow
Vollgas/Full Throttle
Robin Hood: Conquests of the Longbow is listed as fully working, but I get no sound from mine...?
Crusader: No Regret - Works but very slow. Need to have separate configuration to watch cut scenes.
Biomenace needs a patch in order to run properly in dosbox. The patch can be found at the bioware site where the game was released to the public.
Ultima 3 w/graphics & midi update - runs great!
Ultima 4 w/graphics & midi update - runs great!
Ultima 5 w/graphics & midi update - runs great!
You have to turn off the frame limiter on one them. I forget which. I'll update later.
I'll post the speeds I used later as well. I think I had to tinker a little.
Ultima Underworld 2 - Runs a bit slow, but playable. Mouse does not seem to work on map screen
Ultima Underworld 1 - Can't for the life of me get this too run. Anyone have luck?
I did a ton more but I'll hafta add them later. I listed ones I know are not on the list.
And yes I do plan on uploading the configurations at some point. Since the online list is, well, lacking.
You hafta really jump thru some hoops to get games working in dosxbox sometimes.
BTW anyone know when increasing the CPU cycles becomes useless? When I get in the 5000-7000 range the sound tends to start skipping, and even with sound off anything higher than 7000 does not seem to help.
Pizza worm seems like it would work perfectly, but how can I simply map the left and right arrow keys? I read about the config file but I'm having problems.
Red Baron is fully working with the default dosbox settings.
Star Trek 25 Aniversery works, but i cannot get anything other than PC Speaker sound.
This post has been edited by strekship: Mar 25 2006, 08:53 AM

Odd, i got it to work with speech and soundblaster sound.
What are your settings? Have you gotten Judgement Rights to work?
I'm dumb with this stuff, if anyone can make a config file with simply mapping left and right on the gamepad to the left and right arrow keys I'll love you forever.
Here's a question, once you configure the game to work properly on your xbox, it saves these settings in a cfg or save file right? So in theory if people were to upload their working configs for games to a site, such as the Xbox Emulation Repository one could just download the config and be running the game right away? If so this would be a very good way to go.
On a seperate note, has anyone tried to run Monolith's Blood? I have a friend who still has it on cd and I'm wondering if it would even work once I ripped it.
The only problem is the weird naming convention that x-port uses makes it kinda difficult to tell which .cfg file is which. From my experience it's more trouble getting a game properly installed with in the virtual dosbox then it is to set up a config file.
So the important stuff is actually the game files in an "installed" state. Once I'm done going thru my stuff. I'll probably just package it all together and stuff it on some torrent site somewhere.
Waxworks - Works perfectly
Default settings used.

Great thread! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Although I suggest that new game additions should be made by PM...

Fuzzy's World of Miniature Space Golf - Works fine, although a bit slow
Jones In The Fast Lane - Works perfectly
Tempest 2000 - Works fine but feels a bit slow, sound samples play in a much higher pitch
Also, Wolfenstein 3D definately runs a bit slow even if tweaked, so "almost perfect" is an overrated description...

Turrican II - Works until sub level 3 (world 1) then it just hangs, you can still exit DosXbox.
To even get this game to load you have to make a new .bat file and add following lines:
@echo off
set t2dir=C:\
t2.exe
Copy all files from CFG dir to main dir.
In T2 setup use Soundblaster PRO, SB16 doesn't work.
In DosXbox config set Core to Full and add 16Mb.

Yep I tried it, but it didn't work well. The game starts just fine, with sound. But ingame it's very slow.. actually it's extremely slow. Tried all kinds of settings; cycles up to 10000, simple core and more, but it didn't do much good.
Wacky Wheels - works perfectly!
I play the shareware version; would really like the full version, but can't find it anywhere
GUIDE:
- Use the setup.exe to change the detail level to medium (single and multiplayer mode). High detail makes the sound skip and framerate stutter.
- Settings:
Core: simple (very important!)
RAM: 16mb
Cycles: 7000
Sound: Soundblaster Pro2
Zelda Classic - No Dice.
can anyone confirm if little big adventure or twinsens odyssey work?

Zelda Classic - No Dice.
Oh Lol. I'm Dumb
Slow as hell.
Hi guys!
I purchased THIS JOY
unfortunately it seems the latest dosbox(and winuaex build too) lack of support with my joy...
is there any hope(next bulids) this great emu will support my joy?
Got Little Big Adventure working with sound, just set sb16 in the setup.exe
Edit: I am now trying Little Big adventure 2, i only have the original cd version , but the xbox seems to read it fine, ill just have to get a nocd crack, or play with cd.

the 7th guest - fully working
YOU must have dosbox change the cd rom drive to the S:
other then that setting, dosbox itself is left at default
HOWEVER in order to get this stupid thing to run in dosbox you must do the following below (copy of post I made in the forums)
"I GOT IT!!!! I finally got this damn game to work. Here is what you have to do. Well what I did. It is a minor pain in the ass and most of it you only have to do it once and never again. Here we go
firstly I ran out of cds. So I made disc 1 of this game on a dvd. I used ultraiso and changed the specs to match dvd (UDF format, NO joilet and made sure the DOS name thing was selected). Copy the files from disc 1 of the game and place them exactly as they are into ultraiso and make your disc. Of course if you have cds on hand ignore this step totally
onto the actual game itself:
Ok
1. make the stupid thing on a pc and have it install. It will give you a folder called ID/t7g/"files in here"
Its only about 13 megs or so in size. It will usually put this folder in the root of c:
2 ftp or somehow get this folder on your xbox,. PUT IT in the C drive on your xbox
3. Once this folder is on your xbox drive browse into it and scroll through the files in location
c:/id/t7g and click on the groovie.ini file
you will be able to edit this
edit this " datadir=E:/t7g". Change the drive letter from E to S
S is the drive letter the xbox sees when you put in disc 1 which is the game content
It should now read datadir=S:/t7g
Now save this info when you back out
4. start up dosbox, point to your c drive and go into the folder for this game where the files are.
Click on the file called install.exe. DOsbox will load the 7th guest's setup screen. The trick with this game is you have to reinstall it again.
the main screen comes on and it ask you about sound setup. CHOOSE soundblasterpro 2. Anything but this
option it will tell you it cannot find the card. Save this info. You will see it install files and THEN IT WILL CRASH. Once you see it freeze on a file name during the copy process, exit the game and exit DOSbox
5. Now on your xbox browse to the folder c:/id/t7g. In addition to the regular files you will notice another ID folder in here, IGNORE IT. This is the crap folder you had to make in order to trick the system and think it was fully installed. However go inside the crap folder until you see the same files that you normally would. Click on that groove.ini file and scroll down to the bottom under the soundblaster section. Note the irq it gives (in my case 7). Go back out into the main ID/t7g folder and now click on your first groovie.ini file. Scroll down to the same part and make sure the irq number is the same as the other. If it is not change it so it is. Do not worry that one will say soundblaster and the other will say soundblaster2pro.
ALMOST THERE
put in disc 1 of this game in your xbox dvd drive
next
start up dosbox. Scroll to c:/id/t7g and click on the v.exe It will give you a dos type screen saying their was an error or it cant find the file. It will bring you to a c: . You have to remount the cdrom drive to S as dosbox usually sets it to D. So in this new prompt type c:/ mount S -t cdrom S. hit enter. It will say you cannot have it point to the same directory but under that it will say S mounted as cdrom.
It will bring you to a new c prompt, type in t7g.bat. You are done sit back and enjoy the game
Playing it after this, the only thing you have to do is FIRST have dosbox load the v.exe and then change the mount cdrom command to S and type t7g.bat and it will run. Trying to load t7g.bat first will make dosbox give you an error
forgive me if I made this more confusing then it should have been"

"Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers (Talkie)"
Finaly got "Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers (Talkie)" to work, it took a few tweaks in the config file, but its running stable now. Can't use the controller mouse-emulation though as the game crashes when I do so (move the analog stick). I havent played with the sensitivity or other optional settings that might cause this problem, because I rather play it using my USB-Adaptor and the attached mouse...
Right now I'm using the VGA setting (install.exe) as the performance on VESA wasn't quite perfekt (as I increased the cycles the voices starded to get scrambled). Haven't tried to set the emulation "Core Settings" to "Simple" though, which might give a performance boost on Xbox.
This is the Resource.cfg I use:
CODE
videoDrv = VGA.DRV
soundDrv = SBPRO.DRV
audioDrv = DACBLAST.DRV
joyDrv = NO
language = 49
cmd = GKCD
mouseDrv = none
memoryDrv = none
minmemory = 4M
CD = YES
smartdrv = YES
mode = protected
audio=.\;.\;.\sfx;.\patches;.\aud
sync=.\aud
movieDir=.\seq
patchDir=.\;.\;.\patches
audiosize=45k
Dosbox Settings:
Cycles: 4000
RAM: 8
--
If you don't use the german version (SierraOriginals-Series to be precise) of the game, you might want to remove the "language" line from the config.
The path-settings work with an install that is nothing more but all the files on the CD copied to a folder on the Xbox's HDD. If you want to use the Xbox's DVD-drive you might have to adjust them.
edit: Information on the Core settings:
http://dosbox.source...p...nf/cpu/core
Wow. That's great news harlekin!
Are you sure that there's no way around to using the analog stick on the Xbox controller to be used as a mouse though?
I attempted the same thing and got similar results with the game crashing if I pushed on the controller.
Just curious, that's all.
Has anyone bothered to try Command & Conquer with the latest release? If so, what were the results?
QUOTE(Smothermunchie @ Jan 22 2007, 09:33 AM)

I fooled arround with the mouse sensitivity as well as the joystick sensitivity, the memory settings and the config file for about an hour now, but so far had no luck getting the mouse emulation not to crash the game.
I figured that if you move the thumbstick really slow, and stop as soon as the sound starts to stutter it will prevent the game from crashing (for a while, this is in no way a permanent solution), so that you could at least watch the intro, or start the game to see that the performance of the emulation actually is pretty decent. (Sorry, I had to..
)
Btw: If you change the emulated sound card in the game settings (X on the *.exe) you slightly alter the soundquality of the speech track. I found that using SB1, although it adds some noise, is actually the one I prefer, as it covers some of the inevitable crakles. Be sure to fiddle with that too, if you got the game running.

Not at all. If I decide to try installing it on my XBOX I'll just work through it myself.
And while I'm posting thanks Xport.

Have you tried setting Joystick 1 and 2 to USB Only?
Yes, this actually was the first thing I tried.
I can even reproduce the crash at the DOS Screen (before (or as soon as?) the game boots), when loading GK's *.exe. If I do so, it quits to the launch menue, if I crash in game I get a cryptic error message before I see the menue again. Here's a screencapture:
typingsux and to others
I have not yet tried the 7th guest with dosbox ver 9. Since it lets you now use the iso support (which works great) it might make my previous post/guide for running the 7th guest useless. Will try it out tomorrow and post results here
Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within
I wouldn't have hoped to dream about it, but the GK2 also works on Dosxbox V9, almost full speed (even the videos) and only with a few slight sound stutters once and a while. That said, I havent tested if and how changing CD's works and won't be able to for some time.
Also the game has the exact same problem as it's predecessor: Once you use the thumbstick for mouse emulation, the game crashes, so you won't be able to play it without a USB-adapter and a mouse.
Installation:
- Put the first CD in and start install.exe (make sure it is the GK2 install exe and not one of your previous games (by deleting the savegame for INSTALL.EXE from the dosxbox savegame folder (f.e. by using the emulators utilities option, or simly via ftp or an explorer app)))
- If it doesn't start, be sure to navigate to the DVD drive in dosxbox (by typing D: in the DOS console) and start it from there (by typing install)
- Install the game (I used the installation that took up the most space) with default settings
- Type in GK2DOS to run GK2DOS.bat
- The game should start
- Exit to the menu and search for the newly created GK2DOS.bat (you should find it in the dosxbox folder under "dosfiles") and add it to you favourites (optionaly
).
- Try to start it once more (Cycles 4000 (haven't tried any other settings yet), 16MB RAM)
- If it starts, congrats! If it gives you an error message about not being able to locate the sierra folder, exit dosxbox and move the GK2DOS.bat file from */SIERRA/GK2DOS.bat to */GK2DOS.bat ((*=what ever place the Sierra folder is located on your HDD) you might as well copy it, as the *.bat isn't that big
). Once you're done with that, launch dosxbox again and navigate to utilities/savegame manager. Delete the existing save for GK2DOS.bat. Launch the *.bat from its new location (you might add it to your favourites) and keep your fingers crossed.
Visual Performance-Tweaks:
Using bilinear filtering (click on the right thumbstick while the game is running and navigate to video options) makes the movies look a whole lot better, so you should use it. That said, once I switched from point to biliniar and exited the game, the next time I started the *.bat file, the emu crashed while launching the game. If this happens to you too, start the *.bat, hit the right thumbstick while the DOS console is on screen and switch back to Point Filtering. Once the game loads (and you see the Sierra logo) switch back to bilinear. Repeat on every launch.

Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within on DosXbox V9
Wow again harlekin!
If you're absolutely sure that there is not away around to playing these two games using the Xbox controller, I'll probably end up going to Gamestop and buying the USB keyboard and mouse.
Hopefully they'll also have a copy of Gabriel Knight 2 for sale as well even though it's not listed on their website.
Cheers. :o)
DOSBOX VERSION 9:
the 7th guest USING the image/iso format for both discs
1. copy both isos for disc 1 and 2 to your xbox hdd
2. open dosbox and load DISC 2 (using the image file option). Disc 2 is the installation disc and once done you will not need it again
pretty much everything is kept as default, but if you want to play it safe change these
core- simple
memory 16mb
NOTE: should you get the "cannot find sound driver error" just reinstall it once again.
dosbox will bring you to a general dos screen with the z: type in D: and this will switch it to the d:
Next type in "install" (it will look like this "d:\install")
it will do the general install. If it ask, select the c drive. It will then try to test sound. I stuck with selecting soundblaster pro 2. You may not actually hear any sound but blips instead. This is ok
once installed it will make a directory in dosbox called ID\t7g
and it will go to a screen saying to type in the "t7g" and hit enter. DO NOT hit enter, exit the game at this point
PART 2
now load up disc1 (using the dosbox image option) and configure dosbox with the following settings:
1. C drive - D:\dosfiles\ID\t7g
2. mount cdrom - (have it point to disc 1 of the 7th guest)
3. core- simple
4 memory 16mb
5. cycles - 5820 (you can go a little higher if you choose, but going too high made it stutter/skip as did going too low)
6. frameskip- 0
7. sblaster type - sbpro2
once loaded it will bring you to the familar z: dos screen. At z: type in "c:". This will now make the directory c:\ . At c: type in t7g and hit enter (c:\t7g).
Have fun playing your game
The board would not let me edit my previous post.
SO:
Found out something interesting. If for whatever reason you want to play the windows version of the 7th guest. Install the game using the dos version like I mentioned in the previous post.
open dosbox and browse to D:\dosfiles\ID\t7g. Inside this directory highlight the file t7g.bat. Put in your original 7th guest disc 1 WINDOWS cd. Now while t7g.bat is highlighted, hit X for configure. Change the mount cd to "real cd". The 7th guest game will load up directly off the windows disc. Enjoy--
be sure to keep the same settings as you would the dos version in the configure options, obviously with the load real cd choice being changed
Just followed your instruction to install "7th Guest" and noticed, that the "cannot find sound driver error" occurs because the *.ini path does lead to c:/id/t7g instead of c:/ (thats directory the installed files get mounted to upon setting up the iso (X menu)).
So follow robot2's instruction, but before you finally start the game, change the ProgDirection in the Groovie.ini file (found in the same dir as t7g.bat ) from c:/id/t7g/ to c:/ (allthough you installed the game to c:/id/t7g the dir gets mounted as c:/ in dosxbox). After that the game will run fine (a little slow though, even at 5820 cycles, with a lot of tearing).
I've one question to add, because I can't remeber if it's meant to be that way, but once I start a new game, the whole intro (the house, the logo, the credits, ...) is without sound, up until the book opens and the first videos are shown. Is this "normal", or is there a problem with my sound settings, or my ISO?
harlekin
I still do not have to change the groovie.ini at all. I just had disc 2 reinstall over the previous and it worked like a charm (because doing a second reinstall, the game sees the sounblaster pro 2 driver after that). I still have the c drivee pointing to the directroy of d:\dosfiles\id\t7g, and the cdrom option pointing to my disc 1 image. Works fine, but if changing the directory to a flat C works for you then so be it.
At anyrate my disc as well had no music during the credits or intro. If it helps, the windows (and dos) version I was able to get working on this had the same issue. Perhaps it is something with dosbox? I know the windows version had a full cd audio soundtrack, I cannot verify that about the dos edition
Thanks for the confirmation on the missing Intro sound.
As for the "vanished" sound drivers, there is a path in the *.ini file that is wrong for the settings you described, simply because you are mounting \dosfiles\ID\t7g\ as C drive, so there is no ID and no t7g folder, but only the content from the t7g folder available (in C:\ ). When you run install.exe (for the first time) it creates the ID and the t7g folder on C:\ (or rather in the dosfiles folder) and writes an *.ini entry, that tells the game, that the installed files are in this folder ( C:\ID\t7g\ ). Later on, because you mount \dosfiles\ID\t7g\ instead of \dosfiles\ as C:\, this path isn't correct anymore, and the game tells you, that it can't find the sound drivers (/the installed files).
I guess if you then run install.exe (from C:\ (= dosfiles\ID\t7g\, were it gets installed during the first install) and NOT from the 2nd cd image) it corrects the path, and sets it to the location it has been executed (C:\ ).
So I guess you could choose to edit the *.ini file manually, or let install.exe do it for you.
Either way, editing the *.ini file worked fine for me, so if you're experiencing problems with robot2's method, you might wan't to give my workarround a try.
As you might have noticed, Xport released v10 of Doxbox, which now has Multi-CD(Iso) support as well as a fix for the joystick/crash problem in Gabriel Knight.
I start out with confirming, that the joystick movement indeed doesn't seem to crash Gabriel Knight anymore (haven't tested it with GK2 yet), so thank you very much for that, I am sure a lot of people will appreciate this, but unfortionatly I'm not one of them...
And that's why: In Dosxbox v10 all of a sudden the movement of my USB-Mouse got jaggy up until the point, where games are not playable anymore. This does not affect Gabriel Knight only, but all the Games I tested. Increasing the sensitivity (from 25 to 100(max)) improves the performance but only slightly.
So please, PLEASE, make the "Gabriel Knight-Fix" optional as for now thats why I have to stick with v9.
I appreciate all the work you've put into this and the incredible fast response to our problems and am looking forward to see more of your exeptional releases.
-
I also have two more questions regarding the rename option:
If the file is f.e. an *.exe, the new filename must have an .exe at the and too, am I right? (If it's a *.bat, .bat... The short time I was on v10 couldn't get it to work and just realised after had removed v10 from my HDD that that might have been the problem. (Or it might have been that I tried to use ":" in the filename, as i deleted NAME.dos, i realized it doesn't show up in the filename.))
Where ist the path to the new file located at, so you could change the name manually, without having to delete your savefile?
Post problems here.
Lollypop - Works fine (use DOSXbox v10 or later)
Pinball Dreams II - Works fine
Turrican II - Works fine (use DOSXbox v9 or later)
Tyrian - Works fine (slowdowns can occur, but nothing serious)
Tyrian 2000 - Works fine (slowdowns can occur, but nothing serious)
You need to make a new turri2.bat file for Turrican II and add following lines in it.
CODE
@echo off
set t2dir=C:\
t2.exe
Copy all files from CFG dir to main dir.
In T2 setup use Soundblaster PRO, SB16 doesn't work.
Launch game with new turri2.bat and voila it works.
Btw the version I'm referring to is the one found at the Underdogs.
Crazy Cars III - Works fine (v11)
Lost Vikings II (CD) - Works fine, there can occur some hiccups but it's playable, set 16mb of RAM and set CPU cycles to 5000-7000 (both work, but I prefer 7000). (v11)
Supaplex
You need to configure the following buttons:
Up down left right
space, enter, esc
a number
left mouse button, you don't neet the right one
and i case you have downloaded the speedfix, you need the "Numpad Add" button
tip: Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers
If you're looking for a thread on how to get Gabriel Knight Sins of the Fathers to work with DosXbox V9+, look on page 7.
Important!
Gabriel Knight sometimes crashes when you are typing in a new savename. To prevent this, create a special save to use as backup. Now everytime before you want to create a new savegame, save your game over that backup save first. After you successfully saved, create your new savegame. If the game crashes at this state, just reload from your backup save. Believe me this will save you a lot of trouble.
If the game already has frozen while you entered the name for the savegame: Try to type any three more letters and wait. Repeat. Sometimes I was able to get the game back running this way, sometimes I wasn't.
QUOTE(guybird @ Apr 8 2006, 07:48 PM)

Here's a question, once you configure the game to work properly on your xbox, it saves these settings in a cfg or save file right? So in theory if people were to upload their working configs for games to a site, such as the
Xbox Emulation Repository one could just download the config and be running the game right away? If so this would be a very good way to go.
On a seperate note, has anyone tried to run Monolith's Blood? I have a friend who still has it on cd and I'm wondering if it would even work once I ripped it.
Can we start a new thread for this? People can post their cfg files, and then we can compile them for the XER?
Pizza worm
I think the version is 1.4 I'll double check. L/R on the d pad and A starts the game.
I uploaded the config named pizza_worm

Police Quest - In pursuit of the death angel VGA - better than perfect
Cycle speed set to 4004.
Mouse setting for joystick set at 2 (DosXbox v.11)
Everything else left as default.
Has anyone tried to see if Theme Hospital, the original CD, works with DosXbox?
If so, I seriously need to rifle through some of my junk here at home and find it quickly.
Privateer 2: The Darkening? Anybody has this working. It works fine on PC DosBox 0.70.

Hey guys.
I'm hoping I could get a little help with trying to run King's Quest VGA under DosXbox.
My original copy of Police Quest VGA runs perfect but I'm not having the same luck with King's Quest VGA.
I really could use someone's expert advice on this and what settings or other specifics utilities are required to get the game running on my Xbox.
Thanks. smile.gif
Super Cars International - Works fine (v11)
Overdrive (Team17) - Works fine. v12
Project-X (Team17) - Works fine. v12
World Rally Fever (Team17) - Hangs at a black screen. v12
There's more than one version of Project-X, one which I couldn't get to work properly (messed up controls) and obviously one that do work.
Superfrog - Perfect. v12
Super Star Wars - Works fine. v12
Silverball - Perfect. v12
3 Sisters Story works perfect (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I can confirm that X Com 1 works great albeit a little slow.
DosXbox is the only way to play Xcom on the Xbox. It's my fav dos game and I was very happy to finally get it working.
what about a new version? dosbox 0.72 (incl. source) is already out... would set much more compatibility to ALL games?!
Does Redneck Rampage still run like a turtle?
Discworld 1 works good!
what about tie fighter?

how fast would you say dosbox on xbox runs? like 486DX/33 or more like 386SX/25?

I always have fun trying to see what will run on the Xbox in dosbox. After many different experiments I think it runs at a 386 level.
Civilization and Master of Orion run great, just as they did originally on my 386sx/25. What I have noticed is that around late 1993/early 1994 titles start to really have trouble running on the box. So then its a game by game basis....X-com and Tie Fighter run O.K., but SimCity 2000 is just about unplayable due to its slow speed. Master of Orion 2 is also comically bad since its initial menu scrolls into place so slow. The other problem is that I only played these later titles on my 486/DX4-100, so my speed expectation for these games might be a little steep. The most ambitious project I took on was trying to get Mechwarrior 2 to run. I got as far as having the movies play at full speed and configuring your mech, but the game always crashes when you try to play further.
It would be nice if we could get an updated dosbox ported because newer versions have addressed numerous issues and increased emulation speed.
EDIT - Just realized this post is really old! But anyways... maybe we'll get a better list!
Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers (MDF ISO)- Works about 95% with 3000 cycles or more (some lockups if under and sound stutters a little after 4000. The speed slows down quite a bit if you try to run it in VESA mode.
Flash Traffic - City of Angels (Full FMV game) (ISO)- Works great with all standard setting (3000 cycles, 8 meg etc...). Had a minor issue with the setup, after I came back to it claimed it could not find the files in the \OTHER directory. I reinstalled the game directly into the C:\ and it seems to work fine now.
The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Serrated Scalpel (BIN/CUE) - Works great so far under regular settings (3000 cycles etc). There is no sound in the very beginning titles (normal) and the character walks slow- but this is how the game was meant to be.
SPYCRAFT - The Great Game (ISO) - Just too slow no matter what I tried. Playable, but unbearable.
Any chance that anyone ever compared a Xbox Linux running DOSEMU to this port of DOSBox?

I know nothing of Linux, but several times over the years I've posted in the Xbox-scene Linux forum, asking if someone would be prepared to set up a Linux distribution that was optimized to run PC (Windows or DOS) games as well as possible, but no one ever did, sadly.
My dream is for someone to create a very light-weight Linux distro specifically for the Xbox with the sole purpose of running windows games under wine. Sadly, it looks like it will never happen.
Sorry ,My English is not good
DOSBOX can play MIDI? I installed the Taiwan karaoke OK software no sound
Yes, it can play MIDI songs. Be sure that you have enabled some audio card in the configuration of the game (preferably the Soundblaster). If I remember correctly, it was enabled by default, but it's better if you check it.
I don't know "Taiwan karaoke". If the sound card is enabled, maybe the problem is in the program. If you can have access to the configuration needed for this game (IRQ port and so on) you can see if the configuration of the Soundblaster that Dosbox is emulating, is the same. Also, check if Taiwan karaoke uses filenames with asian characters (I guess that dosbox will not manage these files well).
Sound card is enabled, try another dos game sounds ok, configured software Soundblaster IRQ port, but still no sound, this karaoke software testing is ok in Win dosbox
