Title: Daphnex - Looking For Roms In D Drive - Shd Be F!
Post by: maxlifo on August 24, 2004, 03:40:00 PM
:o

Hey people.

Got all the Daphne Roms and Mpegs and created Framefiles in the correct format, using kINGJESTERs excellent "framefile" post to check mine against.  I also followed Kubiks advice and set up the tree structure as detailed in his .NFO.

Can't get any of my games to load from my XBOX HDD (they were working on my PC).  The daphne_log file is saying "Loading d:\roms\etc etc".  Why would it be trying to load Roms from the D: drive when I have them all nicely tucked away on the F Drive in "Roms"?  Is there anything else I should be looking out for in the Log file (which is quite long)?  Stupid question probably  ;)

I have the mpegs in f:\\mpegs\\game specific filenames...

I have all the rest (Roms/Framefiles etc) in f:\\apps\\daphnex\\ditto...

Am I right in thinking I have to have the rom files zipped in their own folders (according to the name format listed in the .NFO)?  I have half zipped and half unzipped at the moment for testing FYI.

I've been here all night trying to sort this out and I'm stumped now!  If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be fantastic!  I wanna relive my childhood.  This EMU has been very confusing!

Thanks in advance!

Lifo ;)

Forgot to say the Log file is saying:

"ERROR: Bank specified is out of range" if that helps!?

D: is correct.   On the XBox D: is a relative path.  The root of D: is the directory from which the default.xbe file was launched.

Exactly.  D: is actually the root of the emulator folder.  So if you have the emu in F\apps\emu and the ROMs in F\apps\emu\roms, then they would be in D\roms from within the emu itself.

First of all why do you have everything seperated like that... The instructions for DaphneX is very specific that they all should be under the same directory and follow rigid naming conventions.

Lets focus on Dragons Lair.. If you have daphne under F:\\apps\daphnex

Then,

1. your roms for dragons lair should go in: F:\\apps\daphnex\roms\lair
2. your mpeg for dragons lair should go in F:\\apps\daphnex\mpeg\lair
3. your framefile (lair.txt) for dragons lair should go in F:\\apps\daphnex\framefile
ALSO, The first line in your framefile for dragons lair MUST be .\mpeg\lair . Yes.. exactly like that.

If you don't follow these rules, then it won't work.

Basically all this information is in the readme for daphne.
QUOTE
FRAMEFILE INFO - IMPORTANT
--------------------------

NOTE: The PC allowed you to use whatever framefile you wanted.. I dont have
a file selector on the XBOX, so you must use the following convention for
framefile filenames...

Dragon's Lair (& alternates)  - lair.txt
Space Ace (& alternates)      - ace.txt
Astron Belt (& alternates)    - astron.txt
Galaxy Ranger        - galaxy.txt
Star Blazer        - blazer.txt
Cobra Command (all vers)      - cobra.txt
Cliff Hanger + Alt       - cliff.txt
Super Don Quixote       - superdon.txt
Bega's Battle        - bega.txt
Interstellar        - inter.txt
Thayer's Quest        - thayers.txt
Esh's Aurunmilla       - esh.txt
Badlands        - badlands.txt
Dragon's Lair 2        - lair2.txt
Space Ace '91        - ace91.txt
MACH3         - mach3.txt
Us vs. Them        - uvt.txt

Mpegs should also go in a directory following the same convention.

mpeg\lair
mpeg\ace
mpeg\astron
mpeg\galaxy
mpeg\blazer
mpeg\cobra
mpeg\cliff
mpeg\superdon
mpeg\bega
mpeg\inter
mpeg\thayer
mpeg\esh
mpeg\badlands
mpeg\lair2
mpeg\ace91
mpeg\mach3
mpeg\uvt

Roms:

roms\lair   - Dragon's Lair F2
roms\dle11   - Dragon's Lair Enhanced 1.1
roms\dle20   - Dragon's Lair Enhanced 2.0
roms\ace   - Space Ace
roms\sae   - Space Ace Enhanced
roms\astron   - Astron Belt
roms\astronp   - Astron Belt (Pioneer)
roms\galaxy   - Galaxy Ranger
roms\blazer   - Star Blazer
roms\cobraab  - Cobra Command (astron belt hardware)
roms\cliff   - Cliff Hanger
roms\cliffalt   - Cliff Hanger (alternate)
roms\sdq  - Super Don Quixote
roms\sdqshort   - Super Don Quixote (short scenes)
roms\bega   - Bega's Battle
roms\interstellar - Interstellar
roms\tq  - Thayers Quest
roms\tqalt   - Thayers Quest Alternate
roms\esh   - Esh's Aurunmilla
roms\badlands   - Badlands
roms\lair2      - Dragon's Lair 2 -  (  dl2_211.bin,  dl2_300.bin, dl2_314.bin,
      dl2_317.bin,  dl2_318.bin, dl2_319.bin,
       dl2_316e.bin, dl2_319e.bin, dl2_319es.bin
*where 'e' is euro version, 'es' spanish* )

roms\ace91      - Space Ace '91 - ace91.bin, ace91e.bin
roms\mach3   - MACH3
roms\uvt   - Us Vs. Them

If you do not follow this directory system, the game will not work.

**** You will need to change the first line of the framefiles to the following ****

Example:

Dragon's Lair
-------------

.\mpeg\lair   - make sure your file location looks *EXACTLY* like this with the game name
  - replacing lair (ace, etc) for other games.

Copy the tree over to your xbox hard drive. Run DaphneX. Assuming you have the
files needed, the game should start up. If something is wrong an error message
should appear.

Thanks room88.

I had the files set up like that in the beginning (when they weren't working) and I'd read a couple of threads where people had shortened the path by putting the MPGs straight into F:  and thought "I'll do that then" and never thought about putting them back.  I spent ages mucking around with it and it seems I messed up one small (but consequently major) detail.

I'll have a go at moving the files back tonight and post my resullts.

Thanks again...

Lifo ;)

OK, gone through everything again and re uploaded it all after compiling it on my PC.

I've gone to load Astron Belt, then Space Ace and then Dragons Lair to test it.  This is the Daphne_log:

I know the Romset and Mpegs I have were compiled for the PC "0.99.6" version.  Could this have something to do with it?  Do I need to re-download the roms?

Looking forward to some help on this one.  I've never had this much trouble setting up an Emulator!

Thanks guys...

Edit:

Unzipped "Ace" and "astron" rom files and put them in their respective folders.  Now Daphne won't load the Mpegs.  Here is the Daphne_log.txt:

Thanks jaffi it's "parsing" the video files as we speak.  Phew!

I had typed: f:\apps\daphnex_0.96\mpeg\game

Where as I should have typed: d:\mpeg\game in the framefiles.

Is it just me or is DaphneX pretty confusing and difficult to set up?  I just assumed I'd have to type F: etc etc.  From what I can figure DaphneX knows where to look for the Rom/Mpeg etc (in d:) and that's the way it is.  I hope this helps anyone else who's having the same problem!

Lifo ;)

P.s, hope everything else goes smoothly from now on... :(

Huh? Why did you do that? You're even still wrong!  I had just written in my post.

QUOTE
ALSO, The first line in your framefile for dragons lair MUST be .\mpeg\lair . Yes.. exactly like that.

So why are you putting in d:\mpeg\<gamedirname> into the framefile? The directions specifically say it should be .\MPEG\<GAMEDIRNAME>

Again that's a DOT, SLASH, MPEG, SLASH, <GAMEDIRECTORYNAME>

e.g.

.\MPEG\LAIR  (and NOT d:\mpeg\lair)
.\MPEG\ACE   (and NOT d:\mpeg\ace)
.\MPEG\ASTRON (and NOT d:\mpeg\astron)
.\MPEG\GALAXY (and NOT d:\mpeg\galaxy)

That is how the first line of your framefile should be... get it? Good.  Even if you did get it to work using the D:\mpeg\<gamedirname>  had you followed the directions in the first place, it would've probably saved you a lot of trouble wink.gif

Actually no.. it was easy for me to setup... I think you're problem was you tried to mess with the settings a little too much (like typing up paths in there) laugh.gif   Whereas I just left everything pretty much at default and voila! It worked. The only thing I had to do was edit the first line of the framefile to .\mpeg\<gamedirname>, then make sure I had the directory names correct and everything else worked fine.

Well, I am another person who agrees this emu is a pain to set up.  I originally had it on G:\, and the program would not start at all.  I moved it to F:\apps\emulators and can now get the menu to come up.  When I try to launch Dragon's Lair, I get an error message stating that it cannot find the roms.  I placed the roms in the \roms\lair directory and the movie files in the mpeg\lair directory.  I replaced the first line in the fileset to read ./mpeg/lair and placed that in the filesets directory.  It still states I am mising roms.  Please tell me what I am missing.......

Nevermind, I got it.  I didn't realize there were different directories for the different rom sets for dragons lair.  Working now, and is SO MUCH better than playing on my dvd.
