| ummmm sorry to burst your bubble but games like terminator 2 and operation wolf dont use lightguns...they actually use joysticks in the arcade machines thats why the guns are mounted to the arcade machine...cause the joystick is in there... |
I already know that they are both 'joystick' games, although I never even mentioned Terminator 2 anyway. Regardless your point is irrelevant as both games are supposed to have light gun support in MAME anyway, and Alien 3 and Point blank which I also mentioned are certainly both originally light gun games.
I can't seem to get the lightgun to work in MAMEox .84 with the Pelican Lightrifle. I have the same proplem, calibrates fine, but doesn't work in any games.
The lightgun needs to be in port #1.
I you're using a HDTV, then you're probably going to be out of luck.
The Pelican Lightrifle works fine in FCE in port 1 or 2. It used to work in th last version of mame (although not well of course). Now it calibrates fine, but jumps around in any game.
May I just ask those of you who have got their light gun working in MAME0X which gun you have? Has anyone had a Joytech Sharpshooter working?
Going back to FCE, as I said it calibrates ok in the emulator menu but nothing happens in the game. Have I missed out an option that turns the gun on when running the actual ROM?
For FCE, press X on the rom (duck hunt) and there is an option to turn on the zapper in port 1 or 2
Yes, point blank works, but not with my lightgun (pelican lightrifle)

Many thanks, Duck Hunt works almost perfectly now. The only slight niggle is the the start button and d-pad on the gun don't register in the game. I need to have a joypad plugged in as well for that. No big deal though, I'm much happier now this game works.
Did Operation Wolf for the NES have light gun support? I know the original arcade machine actually used a joystick but I'm sure I played it as a light gun game on my Master System years ago
Now if I can just get xSNES9x and MAMEoX gun support working properly....

I managed to get the lightgun working with Operation Wolf in MAMEoX this evening. I plugged the gun into port #1 (like Xport mentioned) and a controller into port #2. Using the controller, I selected the lightgun calibration menu item in MAMEoX before launching the game. After calibrating, I started the ROM. As soon as the ROM loaded up, there was a crosshair on the screen and it moved when I moved the lightgun. I played a few rounds of Operation Wolf and then gave VS Duck Hunt a try as well. Both worked fine.

/me runs off to try this out right now.
Thanks waggle.
Still the same I'm afraid. It must be an issue with the Joytech Sharpshooter itself in MAMEoX and xSNES9X, unless anyone else with this gun has had it working?
Ah well, I have NES Duck Hunt and I have picked up House of the Dead 3 again so all is not lost. When I get bored of these I'll just have to go back to Time Crisis 2 and 3, and Virtua Cop on PS2.
A home conversion of Virtua Cop 3 wouldn't go amiss now, are you listening Sega?
xSNES9X has know issues with that gun I think, same with the Pelican Light rifle. I think we both have to wait until our guns are supported
Why did't I get 2 mad cat blasters and double wield in HOTD3?!

Ah well, that'll teach me for running out and buying the first gun I see without waiting for some other suckers to try it out first

About the Pelican rifle, does it work on 100hz TVs, and as you have this do you have Silent Scope as well? If so do you really have to turn the brightness up as much as I have heard for it to work in this game?
Xport please make it so you can use the lightgun in port#2
The reason I ask, is because I hacked my port#1 to be able to turn on/off my xbox from my controller. And when I did this, it said that control port 1 would not be able to use a lightgun. I'm sure there's plenty of other users in the same boat as I am. Please take this into consideration. Thank You.
Like I have already said in the Mameox thread......I also have two sharp shooter guns which work fine with House of the Dead but not with Mameox, Snes etc.
Hopefully Xport manages to get this gun to work fine because the majority of the emulators I like are made by him. If needed I will sent him one of the guns to make it work....no problem at all.
Let's hope this problem will be solved soon.
Thank you Xport for all the retro gaming time!

The only thing good about the pelican lightrifle is that it is heavy, has poor compatibilty, slow and useless autofire/reload options, oh wait, those are negatives, thats because the gun is fucking shit.
Sorry, but I don't have any answers to your questions.
EDIT: strange how the pelican light rifle works in other Xport emus (FCE) but not in MameoX. It worked before but now doesn't. He must have just altered the mame lightgun code instead of building/copying from FCE.
hi
so it seems the madkatz one is the best to go with heh?
its a shame as it looks like a garden hose and the other one looks beter.
the emulators and games i want to use it in are Mame-oX, FCEultra, SMSplus, XSnesX9, Silent scope complete and house of the dead 3.
cheerz
Go with the madcatz blasters, I plan on selling my Light rifle and getting 2
my buddy only carried the madcatz lightgun so i tried it out on these mame roms, which all worked but the x-hair jumps around in a 2"x2" square, which makes it impossible to make an accurate shot! is this for everybody? it also seems in some areas of the screen, the xhair will just jump all over the place???
POINT BLANK ISSUE----- it tells me there is a known "no sound" issue with the game? it's playable but no sound? is this everyone?
DUCK HUNT PROBLEM---- i can calibrate the gun in fce and when i launch the game i can move the x-hair around.. but once i'm in game and ducks are flying around... i can't move anything or shoot?
SILENT SCOPE QUESTION-- can you play silent scope with the madcatz lightgun or does it have to be the rifle????? here's a quick list of games i'm reading are playable with lights guns.. can anybody make any additions
----mame----
aliens
terminator 2
point blank
operation wolf
police simulation
----snes----
Yoshi's Safari
----nes----
hogans alley
duck hunt
----xbox----
house of the dead 3
silent scope
----ps2----
time crisis
virtua cop
