Title: Recommend Some Amiga Games
Post by: 0123456 on July 22, 2004, 05:14:00 PM
After hammering Xports new emulator (big thanks for that) and reliving all of my old Megademo days I'm looking for some games.

Never really played that many back in the days (even though I had 1000s of "backups" ;)) as I was more into the music, demos and hacking.

I've recently completed Supercars II and Batman - got quite far on Deflektor, Lemmings, Turrican II and Rick Dangerous 2 but apart from that I can't remeber any other addictive games

What do you recommend?

I used to enjoy (off the top of my head...this is going back a good few years now  tongue.gif )   Wings, Speedball 2, Desert Strike, It Came From The Desert and Kick Off 2 (hard on a xbox pad  unsure.gif ) Haven't really tried xports Amiga emulator yet, will have to give it a shot.

Yeah thats a great tut.

Did you know that you can add a 9 way port in the memory slot and then adapt various controllers (Snes, Megadrive, Nes, C64, SMS....etc, etc) to work with it.

Indeed, I'd assume it would be a case of getting the pinouts of the pad/stick you wished to use and modifying them to the port on the back of the pad.

That's why I intend to use a 15 pin VGA cable instead of the 9 pin mentioned in the tut - that would give me enough pinouts to be able to utilize up, down, left, right, start, back, a, b, x, y, black, white, l, r.

Due to the limitations of a VGA cable (only 14 wires, no pin 9) this means that I cannot assign the rthumbdown and lthumbdown buttons without using NAND gates etc.. but hey, no biggie.

You could always make your own cable.

I can get 15 pin connectors (without pin 9 missing, and then you just need 15 (or more) core cable.

Try looking at RS components... or whatever you guy use in the USA.

Further still, you could use any old connector with as many pins as you need.

I picked the VGA connecter because a] there happens to be one lying around and B] it fits quite nicely into the memory card slot of the controller.

Will be looking into different connector types for my second pad mod...Also shorty, I'm UK based cool.gif

Title: Recommend Some Amiga Games
Post by: Danjuro on July 22, 2004, 10:45:00 PM
I always loved games involving inertia, so I'd recommend Zarathrusta, or even Exile (though I doubt this one would be playable without a keyboard). Everybody knows Air Taxi and Space Taxi already I guess wink.gif If anybody else know of any other games involving this kind of mechanics and would be nice to share her experience with us...

Also I came accross a nice port (sic) of the PC game Portal. It is an adventure game that had a nice premise, even if sadly the "game" (this is more like a book) system shows its limits, especially in the 2nd half of the game.

Finally, a friend introduced a really nice lil shooter to me the other day : Hybris. The controls are a bit complex (you need to do joystick motions to active bombs or power ups, so you could play without the keyboard), but feel right when you're used to them, and the game looks and sounds great.

Oh and with v7, I was finally able to play with the legendary Wizkid. This game is messed up wink.gif

Good day.

What do you recommend?

Hunter, the first go anywhere game I played, you can drive/ride/fly all vehicles you find, be they tanks, boats, hovercraft, various heli-copters, push bikes and even wind surf.  upset the PC brigade by shooting/running over Cows, Rabbits, Seagulls and Sharks. mind.....  those cows can also attack when your on foot :-)

Lemmings is only any good on mouse the joypad is almost unplayable (Haven't tried Winuaex yet but have used Uaex extensively, does it have 2 mice support for 2 player lemmings)

It came from the desert rocks (Hence desertboy), Wings was great but one of my favourite games that keeps me coming back is Bip a free game given away on Amiga Format (freeware) if I can find the original disk I'll rip it and upload it.

sad.gif However I had this post bookmarked so I could check the good games  smile.gif
This is probably an easy one:
So i've got my emu on the xbox and the roms in the right folder. I load up winuaex, go to launch the rom I want. It comes up with the settings so I just choose default. Then on screen theres an upside down floppy disk with (workbench 1.3) written on it. And it gets no further than that... no matter what game I try I can't get any of them to get past there  sad.gif

EDIT: ARGH!!! Just found out it was all caps files that I downloaded  mad.gif
