I have to agree, although it looks very nice I dont believe you are a graphic designer... Because on the left there is clear colour difference between the blacks and where conker is he has lines on his stomach from the xbox behind him.

Fair enough, but I just spent 1minute in Paint shop pro with it and cleaned it up a bit more:
The changes are now on the right the black is the same colour and around the v2 the colour is now correct, and the xbox no longer has a little square in bottom right corner.

First of all, thanks for the effort, asher. However ... Did you see the old or the new Surreal menus?
In case you didn't, they are blueish, bright and the shapes are "shiny" - oDD (Pete?) didn't really use any sharp edges. There is some "movement" in the background - if you're an artist, you know what I mean. Main colors used are white and a pretty bright blue.
Soooo ...
1) The current Surreal design doesn't really fit well with your black BG and the hard contrasts.
2) Your image has the shape of a Nintendo 64 - Game. That causes some problems when displaying the image on a tv screen, because it normally has to be stretched - i'm sure, you as a designer would hate this, because stretching destroys every image.
So, I assumed you'll want to work with borders. I tried to figure out which color you would use. It can't be black, because that wouldn't work with the background of the gamepackage itself. But it also can't be Surreal-blue, for obvious reasons (looks like sh..). White would be to hard in contrast with black - so, which color would an artist use?
3) As stated by other posts, splash screens go on one's nerves. They just do.
Here's my opinion - use asher's piece of art for games without images of the package. That would be cool. If asher's pic is displayed, it would kind of destroy the other parts of the surreal design.
asher, that's just like creating a web page with a white "click here to enter"-page but using a black background for everything else - this switch hurts your eyes. As I said before, I'm neither really an artist nor a designer, but hey ... what I wrote is pretty obvious to everyone who is just a tad bit interested in design.
I really don't want to flame you, just tell me what you think of my objections.
If you absolutely want to contribute to Surreal, why notget rid of the whole "game-pack"-concept - remove the red borders and the black background. Maybe recolor the Nintendo-style Surreal writing a bit. Insert a blueish, Surreal-Style, background. That could actually look pretty sweet ...

I took several years of university graphic design, so I'd like to believe my opinion here means something. This "logo", or "splashscreen" or... let's call it "an art piece" (since it falls into neither category properly). This piece of art, while decent on its own, just doesn't fit. PHX pointed out all the aestetic reasons it doesn't work with what we've seen of Surreal v2, but I'll definitely have to agree that it might work with the "graphic missing" aspect. It would end up being a bit cluttered for a small thumbnail, so I would suggest simplifying it... Big time, ie, a blank N64 box with "Surreal" written in the Nintendo font. Anything else would clutter it and make it look amateurish.
You need to keep the main contents color scheme in mind when creating a logo or splashscreen. Take a look at the new GameFAQs layout. It doesn't go with the old logo anymore, and they need to change it (the old logo sucked anyhow). Just a slight change of blue can create a clashing of ideas, schemes, moods, etc.
I don't want to sound too harsh here, but did you even look at the Surreal v2 menus before you made that splash screen? Use the eyedropper tool in Photoshop to get the EXACT main colors used in their menus and go from there. Keep in mind the layout balance, the contrast, the use of warm or cool colors, the flow of the design (which lines lead your eye around the screen. Good design ALWAYS creates a subliminal "path" for your eyes to follow). Consider this constructive criticism. I hope you become a better artist because of what PHX and I have said.

The title makes it out to be a logo. Does this mean is would replace the current Toad logo?
Beyond the fact that I love the current design of Surreal, this "logo" doesn't seem to fit. As noted by posters beforehand, it just doesn't do Surreal 2 the justice it would deserve.
Not only that, but the little flaws amount to a big piece of junk, regardless of who examines it. You can clearly see, for example, that the right side of the artwork is 1 pixel higher than the rest of the box.
This could lead to a great DVD cover, though, if the box were redesigned with the correct measurements in mind. Just a thought.

There has been no second release of surreal except the gueux.net version for softmods, and the recent compile of the current cvs (very buggy and unstable). No official builds have been released since v1.

What does you being "a lot into emulation" have anything to do with your artistic eye? Just because you're into emulation, doesn't mean you're allofasudden an artist when it comes to emulator logos and splash screens. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way. I'm not underestimating you, I've already seen your work and while it has some neat ideas, it's executed in a very amateur fashion.
I'm sure the Surreal crew is flattered by your efforts, but anyone with a sense of design can tell that the splash screen just doesn't mesh. Sorry.

this is not a splash screen (there´s no splash in surreal v2)...and btw the logo is already in a surreal v2 beta...
which is not out...so dont bother trying to search it.
from what i know its going to be a xmas time release.
so while you wait play mgs 3....and if u dont own a ps2
then play halo 2 in multiplayer mode...and if you dont like halo
there are two new great games for xboy advance
minish cap...and kingdom hearts.
but i think surreal v2 its going to be the last xbox emulator...
more light updates for xport emulators...
want it or not...the emulation scene...is getting into its end.

and oDD has been "left alone" for a long peroid of time. Matter of fact, WE were left out in the cold. And it was the sensible, serious and GRATEFUL emu fans who got shafted, thanks to the complainers. You check all my messages regarding surreal v2's release, not once did I complain.
