Title: Best Program For Shrinking Files To Ftp?
Post by: zot23 on June 22, 2004, 07:47:00 PM
Need to shrink a bunch of ROM names to FTP to xbox, is there a preferred program that can do this efficiently and quickly?  Want it for HUGO-X, but if there was one that would work for any files, that would be best.

Thanks...

Goodtools, use the xbox filename shortening option.

"prexboxcopytool" which can be found on this site.

for amiga you can use tugid, it can be found on the TOSEC homepage,
there is a ini file where you can define the naming.

Ok thanks.  I forgot to mention I use the Prexboxcopy tool but it tends to really muck up the names making it difficult to figure out what the file is.  Especially if it is multi-disk or there are several different versions.

I'll check out this tugid.

Hmmm looks like tugid is in a complete state of flux.

The tosec site does not even seem to carry it (or much anything, the download section is empty).

Doing a search on yahoo does not reveal the proper version.  Best I can tell 3.6.5 is the last working and 3.6.6 (which I can find) is buggy.

Then there is no current .tdb file.

What a headache.  Talking about MIA...

Prexboxcopy can rename your files for transfer to the xbox and then rename them back again to their original name which is very useful.

Is there a goodMAME type program out there?  One that would parse a MAME ROM list and break it doen into different folders?  If so, what's it called?

Thanks Again...

Yeah I know that, but it doesn't change the mangling of the names on the xbox.

Alot of the tosec names are pretty long..

You can configure the names by hand in the tugid.ini

NameFmt=%n <v%v ><(%d) ><(%y)><(%s)><(%i)><(%c)><(%?)><(%B)>%f<(%m)><(%l)><[%e]>

%? 'PD' if needed
   %b alpha/Beta/proto if needed
%c Country/lang (one or the other)
   %d 'demo' if needed
%e Extra info - anything that has not been printed
   %f Flags, currently in [a][c]...
   %i vIdeo mode, rarely used
   %l Label/release info
   %m Media type / parts "Tape 07 of 10 Side A"
%n Name / title of file
   %p Publisher
   %s Subsystem
   %v Version string
   %y Year of copyright/release
   %% literal '%'

or just zip them into a file that only has the gamename

Thanks for the info, now I just need to find a place that has version 3.6.5 and a working .tdb file.

The one I found (8 meg in size) does not appear to do anything and gives an error message when I pick "rename/scan" telling me open a folder on the left and select a system.  When I select a system right click and pick "rename/scan" it does nothing.

Do I have a bad .tdb file?
