Thank you Lantus,
A couple of suggestions, can we please have an option to turn off the cross hair for scope games and would it be possible for the analogue stick AND d-pad to be able to navigate all menus?
ThanX and BYEEEEE!!

You're so right VAMP.
Since there isn't a new release of the PC Version of Snes9x,
Lantus decided to fix some errors that was bogging down the xbox version. He should've added a code-generator like the PC-Version counterpart.
LANTUS,
IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO ADD A CODE-GENERATOR TO YOUR APP, WHY DON'T YOU RELEASE YOUR SOURCE CODE SO THAT SOMEBODY CAN TAKE A CRACK AT IT AND ADD ONE IN LIKE ME, X-PORT, GoGoAcKmAN, CARCHARIUS, oDD JUST TO NAME A FEW. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT
I normally abstain from making 'thank you' posts since normally everyone else seems to express the sentiment well enough. But this time I just have to say it myself.
Thankies Lantus!! It's perfect!
Best console ever, best emulator ever.
That's all.

The only cheat code I've ever been inclined to generate is one that permanently enabled the extra charaters in Sailor Moon Kurukkurin 'cos I was always forgetting the button sequence for the cheat. Other than that, codes don't really play a part in my gaming habits.
And I really don't have a problem with generating codes on the PC then just punching them into XSNES9X. I guess it's like the Samba/Relax issue, how important you consider it is down to how much you'll use it. Which for me at least is not at all.

So I guess now I'll have to find something else to bug lantus about

I love cheat code hacking, this one time i hacked new characters into Streets of Rage 3 (japan version)
and i enabled the Boss to be selectable in Eternal Champions.
or that time i hacked Knuckles into the select screen on Sonic 3 (without addon)
nothing yet with Mortal Kombat though..
cool stuff can be done with a code generator if you know what you're doing.

how the hell are you doing that with the code generator
all i can do is get infinite of stuff, and also freeze the game

well lets say we try the code to get new characters in a fighting game,
put your selector in the game on a character (and start cheat search)
then move to a new character (search for changed values)
then move back (search for values that were similiar like before the change)
then just keep doing until you have only one or few values left, then just change that value to something else and see what changes.
its very simple but kinda difficult to explain in text, i've been hoping for a cheat code searcher for a long time now..
imagine changing characters in Secret of Mana or Chrono Trigger, imagine running with a turtle in mario bros instead of with Mario,
imagine find new stuff that you never knew even existed.

thanks i actually got a straight answer out of you
ive been wondering how you use the not equal and equal to value commands
and for what you said in what i quoted have you done this before, have you got to change mario a turtle or have you changed characters in any other games
how would you completely change the apperance of a character
i just got 'here' and i have to go, so i won't be able to try this out for about...10 hours (DAMN!). i just wanted to say that i'm an SNES freak who's happy with good sound. i care about these filters probably less than even lantus, and all i want is normal sound. sound glitches in ogre battle and FFIV, and sped-up music in F-Zero aren't a step up. love the gui, of course. i'll shut up now until i actually try the new version.

well i dont remember the exact names, but i did it all with the Code searcher in NeoGenesis,
and i have not done anything like what you quoted, cause i dont have a Snes emu on xbox that allows for code searching,
ofcourse i could download snes9x for windows but i prefer to just sit on my couch
while searching for stuff.
i did change characters in the japanese version of Streets of Rage 3 (made Shiva Selectable in the menu (but the code was very buggy)
and i made Ash selectable with his ingame portret included,
Here's some info about ashand ofcourse i made Victy (roo) selectable with his portret, (without the need to use the special buttons cheat at the menu screen)
and i made the boss selectable in Eternal Champions,
and like always you find out someone allready did it before
and i did a little hack that made knuckles apear selectable in Sonic 3 without the sonic & knuckles addon.
i think the game crashed when i selected him though, but i got his portret to apear in the select screen.
i just went to your links vamp
and so i could play as enemies for some games like in golden axe 3
thats awesome, ill have to experiment with this sometime

Call me old-fashioned if you like but I'd much rather just play games than waste time arsing about with them. Surely for people who really want to do the sort of thing you're describing there must be alot of PC-based utilities that make the process far less arduous than an emu's built-in code generator.

There is actually a utility to embed action replay (game genie, gameshark) codes into SNES (and maybe other system's) ROMs.
I don't have a link, but I saw it ages and ages ago, so it's probably still around.
And LikkleBaer, I thought I was the only one who liked Sailor Moon puzzle games.

As far as pc based utilities you dont find much other then the standard
Hex editor / couple save state editors for specific games / text editing programs.
I just meant to show how much more you can do then
just search for infinite hearts in zelda.
Not too mention its so much easier to edit stuff with a big screen tv in front of you

what happens when i get that high amount of coins that this guy is asking for in this certain rpg,
damn thats a cool boss, i wonder if i can play as him..
what would happen if i hacked out a certain time limit..

i'm a gamer, these are the things i enjoy, knowing these things makes me enjoy
them so much more, and i love to have the power to discover these things myself.
then again maybe i'm just not an average gamer, but these are the things i enjoy besides playing a regular game.
who cares about getting the most out of your game..
I mean who goes to gamefaqs and rejoices when he finds out that his favorite game
contains so much more hidden deep inside? is that just me?
then again maybe we should all stop wanting to get more out of our games,
afterall we all remember Nintendo's policy of hating everything that was the Game-Genie.

Actually i remember this one code that would give you the bosses with correct colors,
i even used it when i got my snes,
(which was muuuch later since i was a sega boy, so it must have been an updated code cause i also remember using the code you mentioned.)
but it was still buggy as hell when it came to using their moves though..

he probably did
and then he moved on to xsnes9x which was better from the pc so it would turn out to be a better xbox emulator
just forget about zsnes
lantus never tryed to port zsnes, it was some other dev using his SDLx librairies
and zsnes would be overall very hard to port, because the emulation cores are codded in ASM, wich makes it a little faster but xsnes9x on xbox already runs all games at full speed so whats the point?

Certain games I just won't play using SNES9X because of the odd sound emulation. (Mainly Final Fantasy VI) It would be nice to see a ZSNES port or even a rewrite of the sound emulation core. Of course both would entail a ton of work, but I've seen amazing things happen in a small amount of time on the Zodiac.

You are correct. A quick search revealed that to be the truth. It was interesting to see it attempted, but I guess it never got off the ground.

Also, I guess this means you left IBM, where you had access to that machine that you used to upgrade the RAM in your Xbox? Does modeling pay better that computer programming? |
Yes VampX, I'm a female. Yes I left IBM because I always wanted to be a model, that was my dream. How I got started was one day I went to the mall to go shop for some lingerie when I was approached by a scouting agent from IMG Modeling and ask me if I've ever considered to be a model. Of course I said no

because I did'nt want her to think I think highly of myself which I don't. Then it was all down hill from there. And about the money, you can earn more money if you do a photoshoot for a really high class company such as Victoria's Secret. They can pay up to $100,000.
Anyway back to the topic at hand. I bet Lantus voted for "Leave Lantus alone, it's already the best ever" because he doesn't want to implement an code-generator into the xsnes9x source code. Now, we will probably not ever have a code-generator in this emulator because of the huge response over the other choices in the poll

. Vampx, Deathx88, and likklebaer is as cool as always.

Also, some of the other posters are right, there are some sound issues in some of the games like Secret of Evermore.
Wow nagmine, that posted image you have is really sweet. It's better than my britney banner. At least I think so.
, have any of you've read the Xsnes9x text. Lantus gives thanks to some of these peoples
Iriez, X-Port, and oDD.
Some of these people be at the scene all the time especially Iriez, He should since he's an Administrator of this forum. I remembered when I first started this scene a long time ago he banned me. Anyway that's not the point I'm trying to make. The point is that it seems like X-Port had something to do with yesterday's release of the Xsnes9x v1.42 emulator. If that's the case, I wonder why did'nt Lantus asked X-Port to implement a code-generator in his xsnes9x emulator. I'm for sure that X-Port knows how to do this with no problems. On the next release if I see X-Port's name in the readme text, I would like to see that he implemented a code-generator. If he release the source code, I could implement one my self or anyother other talented programmer, GoGoAckman anyone.
ok i tried it out, but all my sound issues (more than the three i had mentioned) are still there. i can't see how sacrificing good sound (accurate sound) is a step up. still love the gui, but i'm sticking with v1.04.
hq2x is the asm version.
I had a weird sound issue when playing Secret of Mana, but after quiting and loading it back up again, it went away. With the flicker filter off things look awesome, but at the same time it hurts my eyes
If only things could look like that without flickering. Most likely I'll have to leave it off because in text heavy it's hard to keep reading all that text when it keeps bouncing around. Maybe I'll get used to if I leave it off for a while
| QUOTE (lantus @ Jun 19 2004, 07:07 AM) |
| hq2x is the asm version. |
So, I think there's no much choice besides to include LQ2x. It's very good, almost so good as HQ2x, and much faster too, because it doesn't need to do the anti-aliasing step. LQ2x is implemented in Rice's 5.6.0 plugin, Virtuanes and many others emulators and plugins.
I'm looking forward to it. I think it'll run in full speed on XBOX.
| QUOTE |
| I had a weird sound issue when playing Secret of Mana, but after quiting and loading it back up again, it went away. |
Yeah, I had the exact same issue. Just loaded it again and it was fixed, but sometimes it's messed up. Still can't get perfect sound in FF5 (US 2).
is it just me or does starfox (starwing in the UK) play too fast? not the sound mind you, the sound plays at the right speed, but it seems the gameplay is quicker than what its supposed to be, you can tell if you see the "scramble" screen where all the arwings get ready, they zoom past before the "emergency" announcer has finished saying what he has to say.Mucking about with various settings makes no diference.
| QUOTE (lantus @ Jun 21 2004, 02:50 AM) |
| yes, i know about this problem. starfox has always played too fast. |
It has!?
I've played StarFox quite a few times and not noticed, I must be a Ninja
Well, everyone that knows me already knows that, this is just more proof.
Lantus, I finally downloaded the new version, I really like the flicker filter, it makes things so much more sharp and crisp. If anyone is having trouble with the screen "bouncing about", try setting the hardware filtering to Anisotropic and the software filtering to 2xSai or AdvanceMame2x (I don't remember which one I'm using).
So is there any way to get xSnes9x to read ROMs from a network connection? I've got the entire GoodSNES collection on my server, but can't really be arsed to copy them all over to the XBox.
starfox played fine for me. weird luck, i guess. always hated that damn game.....little cousin played it every damn day......all i wanted to do was get home from school and watch the transformers....

Actually the xbox port of Zsnes (Never released, not done by Lantus) was a port of the SDL version which has (I believe might be wrong) a C/C++ processor core for easy portability.
He managed to get the port working in 1 evening
http://www.lantus-x....sp?TOPIC_ID=823Edit:: It looks like I am wrong the processor core appears to be asm but given the xbox happens to have an X86 processor in it should mean it's "reasonably" easy to port (He did it in a night so I guess it was easy to port).
People seem to spend longer bitching on these forums demanding a port than they will actualy playing it if the port is ever released.
can hardly say. whatever's default. i don't mess with filters or sound interpolation. NTSC, xecuter2, run from hard drive. that's all.
| QUOTE (yodanut @ Jun 23 2004, 10:30 AM) |
Oh my! Disabling the flicker filter makes everything look gorgeous! Sooooo sharp.... Great feature!
Unfortunately though, it seems some new bugs slipped through. While starting a new game of Super Metroid with this new release, something happened which had never happened before: the game froze. It didn't happen right when the game was starting, but rather right at the moment when you're about to leave the map overview at the beginning and the screen fades to black for the game to start. It hung at the black screen indefinitely, but the emu itself hadn't crashed. I was able to exit and retry, only to get the same result. I exited the emu, started it again, and tried again, and this time the game ran fine, but since then the same thing has happened twice again, once more at the same screen at the beginning, and one time in-game while going through a door. It hasn't been a huge deal, but it does seem to be something new since the many other times I've played the emulator it had never, EVER crashed or frozen.
As for Starfox, it's not just that it's fast, it seems to be faster in this version of the emu than on older versions. I never actually noticed it was sped up on older versions, but in this one it's quite evident. It's still quite playable of course (and hell, I could see why some people might even prefer it like this), but authenticity is always for the best I think. |
Not always best if it means games don't get much if any slowdown. I'm thinking more in terms of over clocking processors like in NeoGenesis and FBA xxx.
