Back in the day when I used Relax shares everything used to work great, but I've really been digging SMB shares with programs like XBMC, so with that I decided to hook up my SMB sharing in NeoGenesis (and other XPort emulators). Trouble is when I go to load my ROM it gives a "Could not open SMB file" error. I can see all the directories and all the roms, but any I try to load (over all the different XPort emulators) won't load? Any suggestions as I searched the forum, and checked the XPort site, but nothing relates to this :D
Here is what's in my config:
| CODE |
smbshare=smb://192.168.0.3/Genesis smb_nameserver=192.168.0.3 |
I'm using NeoGenesis v16 and my PC is running XP Pro if it matters. Never had problems with SMB shares with my networked computers or XBMC. I even turned on full rights for the share :/. Really stuck here :/

try all of these
smbshare=smb://username:password@workgroup/computername/sharename
smbshare=smb://username:password@workgroup:ip_address/computername/sharename
smbshare=smb://username:password@computername/sharename
smbshare=smb://username:password@computername:ip_address/sharename
smbshare=smb://workgroup/computername/sharename
smbshare=smb://workgroup:ip_address/computername/sharename
smbshare=smb://computername/sharename
smbshare=smb://computername:ip_address/sharename
I can connect to my other computer and see all the ROMs, so it's not a question of that...I just dont' understand why I can't open them...
I did a little more investigation and it turns out I can't open *.zip files over the network, but I could open the unrared ROMs...did I not RTFM??? Going to head off and check :D
After some more investigation it turns out that I can't open *.smd files (unzipped genesis game) either...only files I can seem to load are *.bin/*.iso...
But even then I get a "checking disk" screen the Sega CD gives...not sure how long it takes to load a 353MB ISO :)

The only way that I ever got Xports emus to work with SMB shares was off of my linux box. Even then, it would only share them for about 5 minutes ( if I played one game then tried to load another after 5 minutes I would get an error. I could get the shares working again if I restarted the emulator).... I think that can be fixed by editing the smb.conf file with some kind of timeout setting.
As far as XP, I get the same results as WilliamDecker and have never got them to actually load.
Wonder if it's a problem with Windows XP or the emulators...all of them :P
I have been having the same issues, and it works fine in XBMC, so I am assuming it is something with the file handling in the emulators =/
Ah well, the files are small enough I don't mind copying them over (still using original XBox HD heh).
EDIT: I am using XP as well, so I guess it still could be an XP issue?
