Title: Using *.n64 Game Save Files With Surreal 64
Post by: bgrill27 on February 07, 2004, 08:04:00 AM
I've been playing around with Surreal for a little bit and was able to transfer a game save in the *.mpk format and the *.eep format. I just put the files in the respective TDATA folder. The only problem is, these game saves are extremely hard to find online- I can only find gmae saves with the *.n64 extension. There are plenty of them here:  http://www.cheatplan...m/n64saves.html and http://www.cheatcc.c.../sgf/index.html Does anyone know how to convert the *.n64 files (used w/ Dexdrive and Gameshark- the files that go on the actual physical memory card) to *.mpk and *.eep files? Or is here any way to impliment the *.n64 game save file with Surreal? Any help would be appreciated.

.n64 is NOT a valid format used by the hardware N64...

How big are these files? They could be savestates, in which case it'd depend which emulator was used to capture them.

Off the top of my head (i.e. probably hopelessly wrong!) the formats used by the N64 were:

1Kb = EEPROM (*.eep)
4 or is it 16Kb = 4xEEPROM (*.eep)
32Kb = Mempack save (*.mpk)
64Kb = SRAM (*.ram)
1Mb = FlashRAM (possibly also *.ram)

Been a while since I did anything N64 related, sorry for any mistakes.

to get the game save out of the mem cards, there was a program and hardware that converted it to .n64. in surreal, mpk and eep are used. but there needs to b a way to convert them

1. get a PC emulator ... 1964 or PJ64 preferred.. (i will describe how in 1964)
2. download the most recent n-rage input plugin and place into the emus plugin folder
3. open emu, goto plugins menu, goto change plugins
4. set n-rage as the default input plugin
5. press ok and then goto plugins menu again and goto input settings
6. goto the fourth tab under controller 1 configuration called "controller pak"
7. check rawdata and then to the side select Mem Pak
8. goto new mempak / browse
9. files of type should say "dexdrive save (.n64)"
10. locate and open the .n64 save you want to convert
11. in MemPak content there will be at least one game note, select the game note you want to use and goto "save note" to save it
12. goto "new mempak / browse" again and type in a name for a new mempak (ex. NewMemPak.mpk) and goto open
13. goto insert note and find the note you saved from the .n64 file.

that's it

now someone plese help me wit this! ...

Which Tdata folder is the correct one?

I'll answer that question:

E/TDATA/a64fea57

I can't believe I got this to work!  Thanks Crewde for outlining the steps to solving this.  I now have all of my original WWF No Mercy Created Wrestlers!  It's like my junior year of college all over again...woo hoo!   beerchug.gif  beerchug.gif  beerchug.gif

have fun :) the n-rage plugin is open source so maybe the surreal developers can incorporate the features of this tool right into the emu....

some games require .m0 saves. is that the same as .mpk?

i believe they are just mempak files... they aren't neccessarily REQUIRED. the emu just creates them for your convenience.

in diddy kong racing when i save something (in surreal) it creates 2 files. one is a m0 file, and the other is an eep. the m0 file is what contains the save information. amybe i can load the save via a mem pak (in the emu) and then  it will searchfor a mpk file

really? maybe i'll just rename the mpk file to eep and see if it works

i still cannot see how i can convert a gamesave.. say in SRA format, as that is what 1964 is defalting to, can be ported to surreal...

I am trying to use the gameshark on my pc, and copy the save file to my xbox so all my SSB players are unlocked....

any advice?

I used to be able to use this tutorial but now when I follow the steps, the end file is only 32 kilobytes; when it worked it was always 256 kb.  Did something change with Surreal along the way?  Instead of using a .mpk file, I just now used a .fla file that works.  The .fla file I imported into my Surreal save file for no mercy had some created wrestlers and game progress stored on it.  I thought that that's what the .mpk files used to have.  Maybe someone can help me understand all of this again.  The old routine just isn't working.
