Perfect Dark does work..but you may need to reduce the paging size a little. Try it with 2 megs on 1964. It can stutter a little when there are multiple enemies on the screen.

btw - lucky folks who have 128Megs in their Xbox , surreal will take advantage of it

as a test ive bumped up the pagefile size to 8 megs and used a 16 meg dynarec on a 128 Meg system and its run almost perfect with no stutter.

check out a vid i made of it here : http://www.lantus-x....urreal_128M.rar

Might I suggest a slight change to the master list....

Color the title to the "best" status and append the tested emu at the end...

Banjo-kazooie [1964][P64][UHLE]

So that we have an idea of which emu the game is playable on.

For multiple emus working, we might also like to see the "best" - consider adding an "*" in the bracket for a game that played seemingly perfect, for example.

adding to benjeremys idea - wouldn't it be better to include the rom settings (dynarec, pagefile) and the achieved fps as well? that would create a thorough and comprehensive list. something along the lines of:

game----------emu-----audio----video---dyna---paging---notes

paper mario--1964----azimer--10-------11-----7-----------slight texture problem on cut scenes

edited because the forum wouldn't line it up correctly hence the dashes. maybe it would be better to host this somewhere else using a database type structure and data entry.

What's up with Conkers Bad Fur Day? I though I heard this emu could play it? When I choose it, there's already a default star hanging over Project64, but the game doesn't load, I try 1964, but it crashes after the copyright information screen? Is there a certain rom version I must have?

My copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day (U) [!].z64 Plays, but with slight graphical glitches.  Runs "good" I guess since I don't remember how it ran on the real N64.  Conquer runs around with his head graphic black and some people have black hands and feet.

Does it run at full spped mate ?

All on 1964 (only because In testing on Pc and On my N64 all at the same time)

Command & Conquer 3D
Perfect Dark Loads up but will Crash

Both worked for me. Check your roms.

I used the (U) version for both

command and conquer is missing some ingame text, and PD plays kinda slow and choppy in scenes with multiple characters.

QUOTE
Perfect Dark: Works with 1964 but it has so many texture errors it's almost unplayable. Speed is very good.

lol, you've got the opposite problems there buddy = ) PD is slow and readable for me = )

Yes, conkers is playable. If its not loading verify your dump and if that doesnt work up the dyna memory.

I've found that evox somehow uses more memory than the other dashboards. I think this is due to the kernel patching it uses, and TSR stuff if you have it enabled. Somehow, even with IGR disabled, and all debug tools aswell, i found conkers would crash if i didnt use atleast 10 megs of dyna in 1964.

Can anyone help, I have checked the surreal64 sourceforge site and it is not there to download at the moment even through this thread says it has been released

C'mon guys. Read this thread and use yer head. This is a XDK built app. The only thing that will be hosted on sourceforge are the sources. The binary you will have to find from other places.

Thats why theres a ini along with the release that contains info regarding how it plays on the emu. Load it up and check yourself. dont wait for others.

Or better yet, why dont you test yourself?

BTW, No Mercy runs perfect for me in 1964 and PJ64, but it did crash in 1964 during a match once, never has in PJ64.  It's funky, it runs smooth but every 5 minutes or so you get slow down that lasts like one second.

Also, why anybody would want to play Resident Evil 2 on the N64 is beyond me.  PCSXBOX is your better choice there or buy a new DC for like $10 and get the real game from the usual newsgroups.

Dexanoid is way too slow with 1964 and PJ64...sorta playable on Ultraxle but sluggish with choppy sound.

This is a relatively small game and I was hoping it would work.  Oh well.  Great emu anyways...destined to be my fav.

yoshy story:

doesn't work well with 1964 core, bvackground doesn't display.
works little slow on project 64.

i noticed that in the leaked version it ran a lot better. (in 1964 it was very good)

what is this story of evolutionx taking more memory?
is better that i run the emu from dvd or cd with no dashboard at all?

Banjo Kazooie - 1964 Almost Perfect
Banjo Tooie - 1964 pretty close, but slow, and shadows are messed up.
Tetrisphere - 1964 Almost perfect, only slow when two robots are on screen.  Two player is perfect, too.
Sin and Punishment - 1964 looks perfect except for the first stage.  But maybe that's how it's supposed to look.
Mario Party 1 - 1964 It works, but runs slow.  Oddly enough, MP2 and 3 both run better.  Weird.
Rush 2049 - 1964, no sound.  Good otherwise.

Rampage World Tour - 1964, Perfect, I think.
Rampage Universal Tour - 1964, Also Perfect

Majora's Mask - 1964 plays with lot's of graphic glitches (missing structures, missing day switch cutscene, etc), Deku Temple nearly unplayable due to framerate drop (1-5 fps).  But, after and before the temple have good speed.  I'll try to see if any other areas have this problem.  The lens of truth works, though, so that is good.

Jet Force Gemini and EarthWorm Jim 3d - These two exhibit the same problem for me.  That is, the analog walking/running is screwed.  There seems to be deadspots, and I can't run at all in JFG.  Other than that, they're both very playable.

Turok's - I can't get any of the U versions to work in any emulator version.  I guess I have to find the E's?

Killer Instinct Gold - Won't boot in any emulator.

Also, isn't playing the Dolby Surround games in actual surround sound awesome?  I never got to do that with my original N64.

Happy birthday to me, I asked for it to be released today and it was (I'm sure unrelated). I've played Ocarina of time upto the castle so far (I'm amazed how well it runs, this emulator will surely replace the pc for dedicated N64 emu fanatics (see emutalk.com if you don't believe they exist)) not a single crash and I've not seen that screen before.

Using 1964 standard settings and it's beautiful the shadow is off but other than that it seems perfect.

I almost wept when my controller vibrated (I never had a rumble pack) and I released it had rumble support.

The only crashes I've had so far have been saving and loading state. It didn't work on 4977 but that's to be expected I guess.

Yeah, looks that way. But don't get your hopes too high. Turok 1 (european version 1.2) will run really, really well for a couple of minutes, but freeze up when you go toward the first key. Runs better than the majority of other games for those two minutes though. I was very impressed. smile.gif

Edit: The (U) versions seem to work just as well too. I don't know why it was locking up on me this morning. None the less, the game still will freeze when you reach the first key well. I've gotten around that by saving state, and then restarting the game and loading the state back and then getting the key. After a while, though, the sound seems to drop out. It may be playable, but it's a tricky one, colour it yellow.

No, I have the problem as well. It's not something that happens in UltraXLE, so obviously some change introduced the bug. The game seems to run perfectly despite that, so it's really not a big deal, but it would be nice if it got fixed.

adding to benjeremys idea - wouldn't it be better to include the rom settings (dynarec, pagefile) and the achieved fps as well? that would create a thorough and comprehensive list. something along the lines of:

game----------emu-----audio----video---dyna---paging---notes

paper mario--1964----azimer--10-------11-----7-----------slight texture problem on cut scenes

edited because the forum wouldn't line it up correctly hence the dashes. maybe it would be better to host this somewhere else using a database type structure and data entry.

I'm working on a database at minute, bored, thought I might as well, my mates playing on my box, so can't do owt with it at minute, never should have told them I had the Mario Kart rom. I really should get another controller.

Ill post links/shots later, won't be fancy, doesn't need to be, if liked it could be slotted into the upcoming official site, would save my lowly bandwidth, probably find out the devs are doing one already, ah well, will carry on and if they're not, this one could be put forward.

Current fields:

romid+gameid - so I can have pages dedicated to games and the the individual romsets, saves having one huge page
rom -   name obviously with region (I'm only doing posts that have the region on at minute, I don't see the point of saying one of a few roms works when there are US, Japanese and Euro releases and differnet versions/sizes etc
1964/p64/uhe - Status, i.e. Perfect/Glitches/Won't run
Fields for settings for test - audio/video etc
Average FPS - Obvious
Notes - Obvious
Contributor - Credit to tester

For this version assuming Version 1.0, ignoring leak, will add a version field once testing done as new versions are assumed.

My test version is very simple at minute, in the full one, you'll click on the core in the game page and see settings for that particualr one if any were submitted
Just did record deletion, onto editing next, then once I know everything works, splitting it up into main and game and cores.
I can't beleive I find PHP coding fun, why can't I find C++ fun, would have got a better grade last year if I had.

Very Simple Overview: Main Page -> Game Page -> Core Status Page

Does anyone have a list of every N64 rom? Or at least a high majority, then I can assign gameids, so you can have a nice pulldown list of games and romsets to choose from, otherwise its me wandering around sites and constantly changing ids as I find a game with a higher place alphabetically.

Any input is nice, unless I fall asleep, will be working for a few more hours tonight, so will be checking here, see what people think. Oh anyone that cares using MySQL and PHP.

Be nice to do something that isn't just for me or a mate who needs a site.

I have the U [!] version and the hand is invisible only in multiplayer using the 1964 core. It is visible in Project64 but the game runs much slower than in 1964. I also noticed when you beat up to I think the tenth stage (after the strange hand boss) you get to a selection screen with a red cursor and a black background with no visible text. What are you suppose to select at this screen?

I think this thread should be pinned and the PJ64-X should be removed.

Check them out on their PC iterations before reporting them here. Some of those (I know Indy for sure, probably others) are simply unsupported as of yet on all those emulators. It's not Surreal's fault per se.

On another note...
To those of you using super smash brothers, and you are finding that your hand to chose the players is invisible...

Super Smash Bros. (U) [h1] (AGS intro).usa  = the problem

Use the (U) [!] or (E) [!] version and theres no problems.

I get the same: Visible hand in single player, invisible hands in multi.

At the end of the game you are supposed to shoot the credits... it's kinda cool, but it's not emulated correctly yet. Just hit start and it should disappear in a few seconds.

also buy the way F-zero has major issues with missing textures.

F-Zero works perfectly on my end.

And that is a prime example as to why i will not take your leak comment seriously.

This build *increases* compatibility, not decreases.

adding to benjeremys idea - wouldn't it be better to include the rom settings (dynarec, pagefile) and the achieved fps as well? that would create a thorough and comprehensive list. something along the lines of:

game----------emu-----audio----video---dyna---paging---notes

paper mario--1964----azimer--10-------11-----7-----------slight texture problem on cut scenes

edited because the forum wouldn't line it up correctly hence the dashes. maybe it would be better to host this somewhere else using a database type structure and data entry.

Be nice to do something that isn't just for me or a mate who needs a site.

sounds good - gets my thumbs up  beerchug.gif

v.small update on db, edit page works, delete page works and adding fully works - compiling a list of N64 games with the help of fezzman so will be able to create main page that links to the individual games soon, may do a test with a few tomorrow. Once thats done can move on to individual setups that people have tested. Its nothing at all to look at currently, but anyone who cares can look at: http://www.cortana.co.uk/surreal, imagine that as being not shit and being a page about one game, e.g. all the posts about Perfect Dark and how well it runs on A and B and why not on C etc...
As you can see, GameID is 0 for all, as its not been setup yet and you wouldnt see RomID normally, itd be there so I can link to individual setups.

Have decided to add non-region specific tests as the setup may help someone else's version.

This is an excellent idea.

I'm going to edit the list at the top of this thread with some of the responses, it would help a TON if people posted just like this.

And lantus, I definitely agree with you on lists. Since now there's VMM and the option between 3 emulator's, the compatibility is pretty high....

everygame i threw at this emu played perfet or near perfect.

1.fzero-x = working 100% tested in 1964 mode.
2.goldeneye = working perfect in untrahle mode.
3.mission_inpossable = working in 1964 mode. (slightly slow but hardly a bother)
4.paper mario = working perfect in 1964 mode.
5.pokemon_stadium = working in 1964 mode some gfx issues at the menu screen otherwise fine.
6.quest64 = working perfect in 1964 mode.
7.super_smash_bros = working perfect in 1964 mode. some speed issues with pj64 but still playbale.
8.star_fox = working perfect in 1964 mode.
9.wwf_no_mercy = working in pj64 mode some gfx errors in the cutsceans and menu. also working in 1964 mode with same gfx errors but also addes in long load times and lockups.
10.pokemon_stadium 2 = working in 1964 some menu gfx errors otherwise fine.
11.star wars shadows of the enpire = not working in any mode majer gfx issues

but 10 out of 11 isnt bad comatbly for a first relese at all and the fact its only the first relese. im relly inpressed with the emu so far hell im shocked it can play so many games.

now for the bad it does have miner controler issues. kinda annoying when the controls hangs for a second when your trying to pull off a move. but its only a miner bug if you press or move a buttion it stops doing it. noteced it playig no mercy and my guy would sit there toughting on his own until i taped something then all would be well for a few min and he would do it again. but it hardly get in the way couse normaly your masing the buttions anyways playing n64 games so you never notec it very often.

Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (J) [!] Works near perfect in-game w/1964 but the title screen graphics are obscured. Works about 90% as well using PJ64 as there are "hickups" present. Hangs on UltraHLE.

Wasn't VPW2 released in between WM2000 and No Mercy? If so, it would be using a later version of that engine than the two WCW games, and both of those WWE games work too. Not that it's neccesarily the reason why it wouldn't work in an emulator, mind you.  wink.gif

It seems to always occur when in overhead mode, and sometimes at other parts of the game too (eg. the shop).

Also when you Z-Target someone/something you don't see the Z-target border around the object so if there's multiple objects at one time, it's hard to tell what's targeted.

EDIT : Quoted the wrong post
for anyone having audio skips in zelda:OOT see below

You're using PJ64 RSP audio plugin switch to Azimer and it should sort out your skips. I downloaded the emu yesterday and only realised this morning I was actually using the leak not the offical release. I switched to the official release and noticed Zelda now skipped slighty a quick look in settings and hey presto it runs as good as it did with the leak. I'm heading up the mountain to the Goran's no problems, don't think there's been a single skip using 1964 standard settings.

PJ64 RSP plugin has quite an overhead involved in games struggling slighty try Azimer's it's faster. I'm surprised this is set as default as most games work fine with azimer's easily changed not exactly a big issue.

Fantastic job on the Surreal64 development, very very impressive
tried some roms and here is what i've found (tried not to repeat any findings, at least from the original list) ....

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine [1964][PJ64][UHLE](had to change the name to "Indiana Jones.z64" to be less than 42 characters and also match the surreal.ini file, original name was too long and could not be FTP'd over)
tried all 3 emulators, all would say loading up to 100% and then black screen and locked up. so it did not work for me
Elmo's Letter Adventure [1964][PJ64][UHLE]
Elmo's Number Journey [1964][PJ64][UHLE]
Mega Man 64 [1964][PJ64][UHLE]
Mario Golf [1964][PJ64][UHLE]
Mario Party 3 [1964][PJ64][UHLE]
Mario Tennis [1964][PJ64][UHLE] PJ64 much nicer (less glitchy) than 1964, black screen on UHLE.  PJ64 completely playable
Mickey's Speedway USA [1964][PJ64][UHLE]
International Track and Field 2000 [1964][PJ64][UHLE] just a little slow down during some intro fmv, nothing that detracts, completely playable
Jeopardy! [1964][PJ64][UHLE] 1964&PJ64 would load fine and then at the opening options screen you could not select anything or even move the selection highlight, but you could click right stick for Surreal64 menu.  UHLE just gave me the black frozen screen.  so that one didn't work for me.

what does it mean when there you first select a game and the choices of emulators comes up and one of them has a star over it?  is that the pre-chosen preferred emulator for that game?  for some of the game with that (like one of the zeldas) there was nothing in the ini noting that.  just curios

any suggestions for what 64 games a 3 year old might like/understand?  that's my main quest for these games - the elmo's are perfect.  thanks.

This game actually does work, and works well. *However*, there appears to be a memory leak on that intro screen (the static screen with the guy in blue robes), and if you don't hit start immediately all your memory will eat up and it will lock up your xbox.  Hit start until you see the 3D cutscreen with the man dragging the halfling into his cell. When you're past that scene, you'll be fine to start your game. I've been pretty far into this game.

I would be surprised if it ever worked on the xbox.

Its unplayable in current N64 emulation on the PC. Who knows...maybe someday.

All Turok games freeze as soon as I load them.

Shadow Gate: before I got to the first animated screen that is grey and something is moving across the screen, then it would lock, but if I press srart it then goes to a black screen and locks.

I've been playing Zelda OOT and noticed it constantly is working the HD hard; like it writing all the time.
I tried playing with the page and other settings, but the HD still gets a work out.
It's the only game I've tried (~50) that does this.

Legend of Zelda, The - Majora's Mask (U) (!).zip [1964][PJ64][UHLE]

Screen goes black after 2nd day.  Some people's apparently revives, but mine does not, so I'm giving it a red.  The sound plays (showing me it's still alive) for about 10 seconds, then the sound stops.  I can reload a state, but that's it... the game will not progress.   I read up and searched high and low for many hours, and this thing just sucked the life out of me. So, I did the next best thing ( see below ).

Zelda_no_Densetsu_-_Mujura_no_Kamen_(J)_[!].zip [1964][PJ64][UHLE]

Cut scenes have a black screen, the texture holding the sun is split in four.  Background (Sky) texture when baloon explodes kind of strange.  Some choppy loading times.  All in all, it's very, very playable.  I'm giggling like a little school girl.

EDIT: I think the Sun is part of a texture problem.  There's a few places where it's apparent.  The sun, and the textures where Clocktown (from the outside, and only some textures) is invisble.  Also, where you see where Stalkid drew a picture of himself looks a bit silly.  I'm still happy with it though.

I know playing the Japanese version isn't a solution for most people, but it works for me.

1. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask [1964][PJ64][UHLE]

Just so its easy to refer to rather than having to go through 16 pages of it!!! This is just a suggestion, maybe as a toggle based menu option down the road, but to let surreal pick the core to use (pj64/1964/hle) based on a compatibility list.  Doing this would take time, and require every rom tested, but would be something that should be fairly simple to implement.

I'm probably going to get flak for saying this (about a great idea), but this list is nearly worthless in it's present state. I've seen at least a half-dozen comments that I disagreed with, few people are listing the rom name (and not just the name of the game) or the settings they're using, and there is far too much use of the word "perfect" (apparently a "perfect" rom can run with gfx glitches, low speeds, and a whole slew of other problems).

I think this list should be trashed, and restarted. I don't even know about the colors, since it seems to tempt people into putting something in a category it should not be in.

Not wanting to completely piss on everyone's parade, I'm going to post a little bit of information on my experience with Surreal 64, which is largely inspired by inaccurate posts (or posts lacking in information) I've seen about games I've played myself:

Beetle Adventure Racing! (U) [!] (verified through Good N64)

I did fairly extensive testing with all of emulators and settings, but only on two of the game's tracks. I also did not test multiplayer. I found optimal settings to be:

Project 64
Azimer Audio Plug-in
Max Video Memory = 4
Dynarec Memory = 20
Paging Memory = 8

The game runs the intro video choppy. Once in-game, I played with a full grid of CPU racers. The framerate would hover around the 15-20fps range. I ran into some stuttering occasionally, especially when colliding with other vehicles. The game runs at a significantly slow rate (easily noticed, since the lap time did not sync with real time), but I did not run into any crashes. There were a few glitched/missing texture problems (see: the castle area on every lap of "Coventry Cove"), but nothing rampant. As far as I can tell, there were no audio issues.
That's about as far as I got with the game since, in my opinion, the game did not run fast enough for it to be worth playing.

I'm not going to add anything else yet, since I prefer to do some thorough testing before submitting anything here. But I will add, for now, that I have played a bit of Blast Corps (U) (V1.1) [!] with Project 64, several times. It does zip through the intro, but with different settings it will not lock up (Max Video Memory = 4, Dynarec Memory = 16, Paging Memory = 4). The analog sensitivity makes it difficult to start a game, and once you do start everything is moving way too fast (accompanied by some absurdly high framerates), but it does work. Just not very well.

I think we need someone that's committed to keeping the list updated, and for scolding people for not using the proper ROM name.

If we had mods nuking the posts that don't follow the rules, that'd be great, but I hate to bother them -- they've got enough shit to wade through.

I kind of agree about the list becoming inaccurate.  It lists Turok Dinosaur Hunter 1.2 E to be playing "perfect".  I looked for this version of the rom for days.  But like one other person in this thread noted:  You can only get it to play up to the first key and then it crashes.  Thats not exactly perfect...

Just wondering to the person that tested Mario Party 2, did you play it for a long time, or just put it on and tst it for about 5 mins ?

Becuase I could play this game for about 30 mins I think, and for no reason at all it just freezes at random spots.

With the xSnes9x emu there also was this problem for some time, with a couple of games. I think I am gonna try this out tonight if everything works out well.

Two suggestions:

1) Adding the Good N64 verified ROM name.
2) Urge contributors to play the game they test for a significant amount of time, and provide more information than "playable", or "no major issues". I'm sure if anyone tests a game out significantly, they can comment extensively, on several different areas (as I did with Beetle Adventure Racing).

hell, 4 suggestions:

3) Add notation when a comment is verified by a second user, and pull the comment down when it is refuted by another (or two other) user(s).
4) Comments should include the memory settings used to achieve the quoted compatibility.

Without some of these things being implemented, I can't see this new list being any better than the last one. It takes a bit of time, but not spending that time yields a worthless resource.

i searched through the 19 pages, and found some help with Zelda OOT....i got the snow problem fixed...however i do still have 1 minor issue.....first of all, i'm running Legend Of Zelda, The:Ocarina Of Time [v1.2].......and have xecutor 4980 bios....if any of that matters....but when i look at the maps of the levels i am at, it sometimes gets stuck, and after i get the compass, the map does not show my position or where i came into the room at (the red and yellow arrows)....is there a known problem with this? any help would be appreciated. thanx

I´ve got a question about Surreal64 and the N64 Rom WCW NWO REVENGE.

sound and controller works but i cannot see anything.
i hear that i´ve started a match and i can walk through the menu but i  can´t see what i do.

i´ve tried some changes in the settings of Project64 and 1964. but i haven´t found the right ones, that will show the video emulation too.

has anybody tested this rom and found the correct settings?
please help!

ps
sorry for possible mistakes in my english.

a new SURREAL COMPATIBILITY-Site is born......just wrote the hole page yesterday, took me about 1h.....

the hole system is databased, so it's easy to transport the hole game-infos to other sites or reformat it later.....

i could need some help, to fill the database with all games....so if you want help me just send a mail to [email protected]

or visit the page:

Awesome job CRAZY.  Kepp up the good work!
Question - does SURREAL64 support game saves?  Or are most save points gone after a reboot of the xbox?

UPDATE:  I found out that you CAN save any game at any point by pressing down on both JOY STICKS at the same time.  That will bring up a Surreal menu screen in which you can SAVE STATE in up to 6 spots.  You can then do the same to LOAD the save states, even after an Xbox reboot.
There should really be some instructions for Surreal somewhere.  I might have never found this feature but by luck.

You should only have to click the right thumbstick...

Tetrisphere [PJ64] [1964][UHLE]

Mario Golf[PJ64][UHLE][1964] On some Xboxes, the game runs near near perfect (with seldom graphics glitches), while on there consoles the game freezes during the 1st stroke

StarCraft[PJ64][UHLE][1964] will not boot

Conker's Bad Fur DayConker's Bad Fur Day[PJ64] [UHLE][1964] pretty much playable on one Xbox, while on other Xboxes the game won't boot

Could you give the memory settings you used for these games?
