Title: Neogenesis V5
Post by: dentist07 on April 30, 2004, 03:30:00 PM
Xport, I downloaded the snatcher iso from the web and was able to play it using neogenesis, but everytime I get to a certain point in the game it freezes (right after Gillian enters the car with metal gear for the first time).  I have the iso and mp3's in a bin file in my xbox.  What can I do to solve this?  I'm very much a newbie to this stuff, so if you could, please try to explain in as clear and concise way as possible.

NeoGenesis Sega Genesis/Megadrive/32X/SegaCD/MegaCD Emulator for XBox v5

http://xport.xbox-scene.com/

Sorry about the "two releases in 30 minutes" thing....but I think you'll like this one:

What's New:
- Save States for CD games are now working (!)
This is a feature even the windows version of Gens does not have.  smile.gif

Jezus Harold Christ on a Bike man... YOU'RE BLOODY INSANE!!! You know, Xport, you practically ARE the "scene" man! Kudos...

BTW-
How's the programming of the Matrix 1 coming along Xport? Or should I refer to you as the Architect now?

Oh now that's really cool, good stuff xport!
shame I can't just d/l the xbe for these releases smile.gif

with the save states thing worked out will you mention it to the gens people? they must be interested.

EDIT- I don't mean to go OT here but it's better than creating a new thread... If you ever update your SMS emu again do you think you could fix the tearing? I don't want to sound demanding here but I figure you have it all sussed out with the neogen fix.

a friend of mine screamed "marry me" but i had to remind her that you were taken  jester.gif

and to think a few months ago you had the nerve to put up a post saying "im xport, dont know if you know me, but i ported ... to the xbox.  I doubt ill be remembered for this in the long run" or somethin like that.  If anyone forgets you (which is damn near impossible) ill be the first one to tie them up and splatter their brains  ph34r.gif

This question applies to both the hugo-x v8 and the new neogenesis v5 emulator:

Regarding the .iso/mp3 files for sega cd and turbo duo:

Can I put my .iso/.cue/.mp3's into folders and put those folders into the roms dir?
also is it fine to make up a disc with say 25 sega cd's games-some are very small after converting with cddissect tool!
say folder "dracula-x" put into roms folder of hugo-x v8 etc. same for sega cd's.

thanks so much!!

Thanks very much for fixing the 32X issue Xport (and now the CD savestate bug!). It's really amazing how easily you seem to fix these bugs.

Xport thanks for answering my question-also i feel very grateful to you for making these awesome xbox emulators aswell as taking the time to answer questions you are a great person!

Also 1 last thing should i use your supplied dracula-x cue or just make a .cue/.iso/.mp3 from a turbo duo cd myself? is there something different about that .cue than what i would get by making one from a standard cd?

thanks again!!

You rule!

CD Save States still seem to lock up on me. I tried Sonic CD and I saved it to Slot 1 at the title screen. I played for a bit and then tried to load from State 1. The title screen would show up for a brief second and then the thing would lock up and I had to reset my Xbox.

Have I configured something wrong or is this happening to others too?

Nice work Xport, maybe you should share it with Stef? I mean
the SegaCD Saves working, cause if you added to the current CVS
2.12a this on your own, i bet the PC community would like it too.

Wheter you do it or not lies in your hands, im happy enough with
the Xbox having it only personally happy.gif
Good job, now i actually have to switch to yours.

Dante - I just tried exactly what you said and it worked fine for me.   The CD games I've tested saving states on are: Sonic CD, Popful Mail, Ecco, Flink, and Lunar.  For all of those games, I've tried saving at various positions in the game and then loaded the save states again from various different places.  I've also tried loading states from the very first "sega cd" intro screen that you see when you first start a sega cd game.  Everything has worked fine for me.  Is your copy a mega-cd?  I can't imagine that would make a difference, but I'm just trying to figure out how things are different between our setups.

re: submitting to stef, etc.  It's too early to say anything in this regard.  It works for me obviously, but I need more reports.  So far all I've heard is one person who has tried it and failed.

XPort: It's the US Sega CD version. I tried removing the save from the previous NeoGenesis release, I tried deleting all the saves in Save Game Management and it still locks up for me.

Here is the exact procedure:

1:Ï load Soniccd.iso. The Sega CD screen pops up, I press Start. I get the 'RAM is not initialized' screen. Press right thumb button, go back to menu.

2:I load Soniccd.iso again, this time I press A and I go to Memory. Press A again and select ''Format RAM'''. Select Yes when asked to Format.

3:Select "CDROM".

4:At the title screen, I press Start and then, at the screen that shows New Game, I press the right thumbbutton, and select Save State. Exit to the game and press the Start button to begin.

5: I play for a few seconds then press the Right thumbbutton and select Load State.

6: My Xbox locks up.

I have a version 1.0 Xbox, have set my EEPROM to NTSC 60Hz and I'm using the latest EvolutionX dashboard. The dongle is inserted into Port 2 and I have a PS2 to USB converter with a PS2 keyboard to it attached on Port 3. (though I doubt either the dongle or the keyboard has anything to do with).

Xport, The Games you tested saved with his bugs before fine, except Lunar, except after 50% of playing the game it somehow
erased the old state, and didnt write the new one. This is just
too much to ask you to test, so yeah, ppl gotta test it and report.

I hope it will work out that you helped out the Sega Emulation,
plus made the first step towards it on xbox, respect for that.

dante - I just tried exactly what you said and it's still working for me.  I was hoping it'd be something silly like I put the wrong XBE in the release, but I redownloaded it to be sure and it's the right version.  The only difference is that I'm running off a real Sonic CD.  My testing with Popful Mail was via ISO/MP3, however, and that also works fine.  Have you tried any other CD games?

Craizeah - I'm not talking about saving states.  I'm talking about reloading them.  You could save states in any CD game from Neogenesis v1.....loading them back is the issue.

Yeah, I just tried Popful Mail and it saved fine, so I think the saving function works fine on other games.

Anyway, here's what my CD files are named like on the HDD:

They are in a subdirectory called "sonic cd", which in turn is located in the subdirectory "sega cd". (Maybe it's a subdir bug, maybe not.)

The MP3 files are all named like this:

soniccd 01.mp3 > soniccd  35.mp3

and the ISO is named > soniccd.iso

Have you tried saving at any other point in Sonic CD?  It should not make a difference what you call your files since that information is not saved.

Yup tried on various places and it still locks up.

Is it a problem related to my ISO?

If you've played the game all the way through on your ISO then I'm sure that's not the problem.

Yes I finished the game on my PC with Gens before your or Hikaru's Gens port was even released and I never saw something strange or out of the ordinary that suggested to me that it was a corrupted ISO.

It's still strange that this error is not reproducable on your Xbox, though. Oh well, it's not that big of an issue.

Dante_ali - I ripped Sonic CD and played from ISO/MP3 and was able to duplicate your problem.  I've fixed it.  Download v6 and try it out.
