MARIO KART PLAYS MUCH BETTER.

Just about perfect from the playing i did ; )

Also, on a side note...

With Rice 5.0.0 there are some bugs that were not in 4, such as transparency issues (menu txt box in mario 64) and invisible menu's and game stats (fzero-x and some others) ...In order to fix the invisible menu's do a quick save state (back and black) and load it...and it fixes the problem.

Enjoy.

Also, read the main xbox scene news page about the contest details. YES, its offiically over.

My understanding of the donation situation is that he is going to give Rice a nice donation ; ) (aswell as www.emulation64.com as jabo has requested). This will allow him to buy a new high end graphics card as he has a low end one. This will help him create better plugins to work with the xbox's high end GPU. Rice's plugin is progressing so fast that it will outshine jabo's within a few months if he keeps at it ; )

So i would just like to say in my personal opinion that this contest has not only gotten everyone a open source emulator that allows you to play some n64 games on the xbox, but it will also help the N64 emu scene in general, which will in the end give you guys *much* better beta's to play with ; )

Keep in mind the author is going to be hard at work trying to implement VMM and has NOT discontinued the project.

Please dont whine/moan/bitch ....constructive criticism is the way to go.

Playing with the RDB settings is helping with the stuttering somewhat.  Overall this release should satisfy alot more people.  Outstanding work.

As a side note, because i havnt seen it mentioned anywhere...

The most optimal way to increase the NormalCompileBufferSize= is by increments of 65536.

Just thought i would throw that out there for people that want to play with the rdb =)

If something plays slow/sluttery, add a NormalCompileBufferSize entry if it doesnt exist, with a number from another entry (to play with) and if it crashes, reduce the number until it doesnt ; )

Should help with some gameplay. Most of the big titles are optimized already though.

Read the main page as i said and you will see that i stated that a few 32mb roms play with full textures and all the other requirements to be met for goal 3.

It would be great if no one would bitch. You are all going to get great beta's in the future, since he is going to continue the project. Criteria has been met.

Goodday.

The contest is over simply because there isn't another emulator coming. You can pretend that Hikaru's going to release daedalus port with virtual memory and perfect sound but I think the fact that he's making that new dash is a sign that maybe it was more effort than he really was willing to put in.

I think this is ideal, the prize money being split up decently and honourably.

Iriez I'd say the contest was a complete success.

Was going to donate but I think I'll just send my cash to emulation64.com

This cash has done a lot of good for the emu scene and anyone who bitches should really just not touch PJ64-X and keep quiet. If you donated and feel cheated then you are a fool what did you expect an N64 for $10 not going to happen.

You certainly won't see team executer asking for their cash back.

WOW, DOOM64 runs perfectly aside of a few minor sound issues, and a gfx glitch in the sky textures, but other than that it plays perfectly it seems, I got my donations worth for sure!

One thing that would REALLY improve this emu, is to dump using the XBOX B button, and use X instead, B is just strange feeling, and you can't hold it down while tapping A for Platform games! Of course building button config into the menu would be great too as there are also times I'd like to swap the C buttons to the right analog, and vice versa for FPS' such as Forsaken.

THankx again, very exciting times!

I guess you haven't read the guidelines?

It only has to play ONE 8MB cart, ONE 16MB cart, and ONE 32MB cart.. That's it, contest over.

If the porter wants to work on optimizing others, then he can.. But he certainly doesn't have to do anything.

The emu would be way better if the controller sticks had a deadzone, as it stands now I cannot play it at all since my controllers are fairly old.  So far, this is the only app/game that hasnt had a deadzone setting.

If im not mistaken, the project is open source, where/when are the 0.70 sources going to be released?  Once those are released it would be a trivial matter to remap buttons and create a deadzone.

Got home at 6.10 and was surprised to find xbins wasn't overloaded, last time I grabbed the emu from a url someone posted in the forums (Naughty boy). After 50 minutes of playing I can tell you this emu kicks ass.

It's a huge improvement, still not a patch on the pc version but it's getting there some games I played are perfect but more importantly a lot more of them work which they didn't before.

What I did which most of you didn't was play around wiith Rice's plugins and PJ64 before hand to so I knew what to expect and I can tell you Rice's 5.0.1 is a huge improvement again. When Rice open sources it we'll all be in for a treat.

Maybe we should all chip in & buy Rice a chipped xbox.

Thats the source for v0.60.

You know how when you have an older controller, sometimes the game will think you are pressing the stick when you are not?  A deadzone is the minimum amount of movement needed before an action is taken, which helps prevent that.

In the 0.60 sources a deadzone was defined and seemed to actually work, controls worked fine.  With 0.70, whatever deadzone was there is now gone, so the only way I am going to be able to use the emu at all is if I go out and buy a new controller.

That aside, the author should have included the L+R+Z+Start fix like on the actual N64, which many (If not all) PC emulators support, the PC version of PJ64 included.  Why the author of PJ64X would disable/remove this I do not know.

Just wanted to leave a footnote here though, though the issue I described and the fact that N64 B is mapped to Xbox B (eh?) the work is very nice overall, but it is just annoying to me when something so close to perfect is marred by easily fixable things.

i've tried it many times before on both version 6 and 7. Hasn't worked yet. I will try yet again when i transfer a rom in a few minutes to xbox.

Also, i see the controls are fixed, meaning how in version 6, the control would be like a little to the left in default position so guy would move when not pressing anything. At least for me. That seems fixed.

Okay, I've got a couple of stoopid questions.  Is it pretty do-able to put the emu + roms on a disk and play from there?  I don't want it on my hdd and love just sticking in a dvd-r when I want to play an emu.

Also, do game saves work?  How are they accessed?

I don't know how you missed the ability to do barrel rolls with the Z button (as that's how I was doing it on .60, before I had the R trigger)... but, I guess that means you never really played StarFox64 on an N64, eh? Either that, or your memory is not what it should be.

QUOTE

Yeah, I have to say that that's one feature I'm waiting for, as I have the big Xbox old-school controller, and therefore have the perfect button layout to re-emulate the control scheme on the N64 controller... so difficult to play Starfox, and have to hit Stick-left to be able to boost. Feels unnatural. Other than that, I am most pleased with what I have, and I thank the coder/author for all of his hard work.

Deb out.

First of all I want to thank the author for all his work on the emulator.

But what I wonder is that if there is any posibility to get the glNintendo64() plugin ported to the xbox.
I just tried it out on a few games with PJ64 for windows and I really liked the visual quality! Zelda looked real good, even better than with Jabos plugins.. And it ran very well to.

Amazing job ... and I can't believe that the author is actually going to try to get a vmm running on Xbox ... if he somehow manages the impossible then maybe that code could be implemented into Mame-X for some of the larger Neo-Geo roms! VMM would open up everything, even if it does sound a bit far-fetched. Then again, I didn't think I'd see such a perfect example of Mario 64 running! (For some strange reason, running Mario 64 with the new Rice plugin removes the HUD ... no stars or lives  .... strange)

Also the L-Trigger = Z Button is most appreciated. Was playing Mischief Makers and noticed that the button config is a bit difficult, but the game plays great.

The US version seemed to run fine, apart from the corrupted menus. In fact, in 2 player mode it was a little bit too fast.

As for Blast Corps.. yeah it works, very laggy though with Rice 5.0 - as well as all the other Rare games.  Must have something to do with the microcode Rare were using on all their games.

Yeah and there is some problem trying to move around, it just won't go where you want weird. The sound is kinda screwed but I was just happy that I got to play it. One of the best games for N64.

A couple clarifications...

Yes, this uses rices latest 5.0.1 plugin.

It plays super smash brothers *every time* for me. make sure you have a (U) [!] rom. It plays alright aside for a few stutters in gameplay and messed up menu's.

Regarding the contest...

In accordance to all legal aspects, the pot will go to pj64-x. Yes, i know UltraXLE plays zelda. Unfortunately the author of UltraXLE didnt beat pj64-x. First come first serve. The UltraXLE author has said that he is happy that the PJ64-X author recieved the funds, and that he is being very charitible with it.

What 32mb roms play?

Rayman 2 and Road Rash 64 are two off the top of my head.

Keep in mind that UltraXLE has a very small compatibility listing. Mario kart,Mario 64, zelda OOT, and goldeneye are the only big titles that play with it.

The author ported it specifically for those. Im very happy that he did. I also spoke with him briefly with an idea..

Making it so that you can rename the ultraxle.xbe to PJ64-daed.xbe and launch it in PJ64-X ...that way you can use a single emulator with higher compatibilty.  Or vice versa if the UltraXLE author feels like creating a new UI that can launch PJ64-X xbe's. Either way we will work something out for the end users =)

Sounds good mate, I know both emus will be sitting alongside each other on ym xbox even if that doesn't happen.

I don't want to bring this up AGAIN but I just want to say I feel embarrased by the whinging that's going on... i'm a part of this scene, I love it but i'm amoungs a heap of ungreatful morons, I'm personally extreamely greatful to everyone involved in EVERY release even if I don't need it... and i'm sure most others feel the same way.

it's just unfortunate the attitude of the rest can bring us all down.
there's thousands of people patting you guys on the back though, huge thanks mate smile.gif

Glad to see you working together... Everyone jumped the gun in assuming both :camps: were trying to out-do each other, eh? I am sure both of these emu's are only gonna get better!
