DO NOT REQUEST THIS EMULATOR ON THIS SITE!  Asking for XDK based software is not permissable! - HSDEMONZ!

PCSXBox - PSX Emulator for XBox v1

http://xport.xb-power.com

http://www.pcsx.net/

What's New :
- Emulates Playstation
- Memory Card manager (select from 10 memory cards)
- Save states (LTRIGGER+BLACK and LTRIGGER+WHITE)
- Cheat code searching
- Gameshark code-compatible
- Gameshark cheat code database with codes for over 1700 games
- Remappable PSX buttons
- Throttle/speed-up
- Supports BIN files or GZIP'd BIN files.  (GZIP is not the same as ZIP)
- Background - Thanks to CandyISO for the background image
- True Type Font - Thanks to CandyISO for this PSX font
- MP3 support
- XPort's Configurable PlayThing smile.gif

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Press Y from the main menu for help.
Press LTHUMB from main menu for Configuration
Press RTHUMB from main menu to switch between CDROM Drive and Hard Drive
Press LTHUMB during gameplay for the options menu

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Many thanks go out to the PCSX team for this great emulator and also to
Jens Duttke for his Gameshark cheat code database.

Also thanks to Lantus for helping me with the PAL issues I was having.
Hopefully PAL users will be able to enjoy this just as much as NTSC users.

Further thanks to CandyISO for providing the background and TTF font.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

This version does not support real CDs.  There are a different set of technical
hurdles involved with PSX cds than with SegaCD and PCE CD/SCD.  I was finally
able to get the XBox to read XA sectors, but it reads them much too slowly
for anyone to want to play games using it.  (Reads about 2.5KB per second)

For now, create BIN/CUE's of your PSX games and either copy them to your HD or
burn them to DVDR/CDRW.  Your BIN and CUE files should have the same names:

For example:

GAMENAME.BIN
GAMENAME.CUE

is a valid combination and

GAMENAME01.BIN
GAMENAME.CUE

is not.

Furthermore, if you use GZIP to compress your BIN image, you will end up with
a filename like

GAMENAME.BIN.GZ

This means that you need to rename your CUE file to be:

GAMENAME.BIN.CUE

or you could rename the GZ file so that the two files are:

GAMENAME.GZ
GAMENAME.CUE

make sense?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A note about GZIP'ing your images.  Yes, they will work, but you will suffer
a performance hit because there's no "true" direct access to any position in
the file.  Let's say the game is reading sectors 1 to 100 - it'll read them
lickity-split, but then when it requests, say, sector 30000 is has to scan through
and do some processing on sectors 100 to 30000 before it can read the data instead
of just jumping directly to that spot and reading.  This is the nature of compression.
No, cacheing of data does not help in this case.  So, in a nutshell, compression
is supported, but I advise against it unless you run from the HD and have replaced
the standard XBox HD with a faster one.

You can make an XBox ISO with a BIN/CUE image on it, burn it to a disc, run PCSXBox
from the HD, then press the RTHUMB button to get a listing of files on the disc.
This is to make upgrading easier for those who prefer to keep BIN/CUE images
on disc instead of on the HD.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

When you select the BIN file to load, you will be presented with an options menu.
You can start the game using one of two different BIOS methods.  Using an actual
BIOS file for the emulation is the most compatible, however it's a little slower
than HLE.  Try both and see which one works best for the game you're playing.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

There is also a section for changing the graphics options.  If the game you want
to play has graphics problems or isn't displaying graphics (but you can hear sound)
then you might want to try fiddling with some of the graphics options.  There is
also a specific CPU option in this section for fixing Parasite Eve and Vandal
Hearts 1 and 2.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Also on this options menu is the memory card manager.  From this section,
you can change the memory cards that are in slots one and two.  You have ten
different cards you can use.  Please note that changing the card number
while playing a game *does not* switch the actual memory card that the game is
using.

------------------------------
XPort's Configurable PlayThing
------------------------------

This is part of a project I did many years ago that fiddles with
curves and trajectories.  I thought it would look nice on the XBox.  You
be the judge.  smile.gif  Move the character with the Left Analog stick and fire
using the B button.
(Hint - fiddle with the X and Y Multipliers on the "Squiggle" effect.)

Stella, Gnuboy, SMSPlus, FCEUltra, HUGO, NeoPop, DGen, Bochs, HUGO-CD, FMSXBox,
Bliss, WinSTon, Gens, Z26, StepmaniaX, PCSXBox....what's next?

Enjoy!

ISS Pro Evolution 2 in-game doesn't run that well; framerate is very choppy. But, intro vid and menu are smooth as.

Having said that, it's still the most amazing contribution to the scene since XBMP.  I'm sure things will continue to be upgraded/improved as time goes on.

I still say this is genius.  Congrats to all who were involved.

This is indeed a happy day.

Which games work perfect for you?

I just tried Ridge Racer Type 4 and it did not run with HLE but did run with the bios option.

The game runs pretty bad... Looks like is skipping a lot of frames and it sure does look pixelated. So I take it there is no hardware acceleration being used?

Does HLE use the Xbox video card to enhance the graphics?

I'm gonna try some 2D games next.

Thx X-Port this is trully impressive.

I hate to be the only stinker here but I guess none of you own a PS2 or PS1?  I thought the great thing about emulation was the ability to have ancient games that were no longer playable by easy standards compared to systems that still have a shelf life.......?

Nice job though!  It's always good to have progress.

I'd personally like to see an update to MAME-X.  Or what about a Jaguar emulator?

well i do have a psone but its broken, the sound is messed up. this gives me the chance to finally finish some games that i do own.

biggrin.gif . This is really awesome but I cant help feeling bad for "Daedalus-X v0.10" they just get the graphics to 50% and then you out shine them with this. So everyone dont forget the hard work Daedalus-X did today also. Once again great work.

CDDISSECT does not seem to want to rip any of my PSX games.

It rips SegaCD fine, it will even rip a non-game CD fine, but every PSX game I put in, will not rip, it gives me a generic CUE sheet, and a ISO file of 0k. What's the deal? What DO I rip these with, do I need CDDISSECT 1.2 instead of 1.1, in that case where the hell is 1.2?

smile.gif Playing Silent Hill right now. Video seems fine so far, gameplay is a little jerky, but damn this is fucking impressive my man, thankx again, be sure to check with Uber for your reward. wink.gif ha ha ha

I dunno howto get working CUE sheets as of yet, but here is how to get a working BIN with CDRWIN 3.9.

Load up program, select the middle option, then make sure you have these options set as such:

1. The CDROM drive that has the game disk in it.

2. Directory, and file name to save game to.

3. Read Options RAW

4. Error Recovery ABORT.

5. Jitter Correction AUTO

6. Subcode Analysis FULL (or disable if your CDROM does not support this)

7. Read Retry Count 15 (or more)

Then his start and away you go. If someone knows a better way, or knows how to make a working CUE sheet, then please post here!

Hmm I disabled the Throttle, and it is still a throttle now, also the settings for the joypad do not stay saved.

Got one game to save, but Castlvania Chronicles still does not.

Also Castlevania Chronicles and Strider 2 work great aside of one minor glitch which is that your character vaniashes from time to time after being hit.

I like to thank the Pcsx PC crew for this awsome program and
i like to thank Xport for the awsome port to my xbox..

i just ripped my Final Fantasy Tatics with CDRWIN 4.0a...
came up to be 516MB .. worked great.. only bug i saw was in the talking bubbles would be grapihic error on text until it is spoken ( highlighted) then it fixes to correct game text.. minor bug..

I tested Dragon Ball GT Final Bout i think downsized.. d/l from kazaa..
only 155mb..  worked but very slow. staggers..

gonna get a few games from friends in next couple days i'll place a further feedback..
but hell.. psx on xbox .. this keep me happy till N64 makes it..

oh ya 1 more problem i encountered.. in menu screen the sound is perfect.. but in game .. it seems sound volume droppeds %50...

hopefully fixxed in next update?
great work Xport.. your a pioneer..

(At a Friends House)

For those who were wondering what happen to our port, we were stuck on something (forgot what it was) so we asked XPort for help, XPort replied back in 3 days saying that he had taken over the project and ported pcsx himself, so we kept that to ourself until he released it today.

You may even find some games working in the pcsx port XPort did, when our team started the port we got support from the original Author and he gave us a source code for pcsx that hadnt been released yet.
(And I sent that source to XPort through PM, not sure if he used it but it looked like he did).....

Awsome work though XPort,

I had to add my thanks here as well.

Ive tested 2 game so far
Megaman8 - great in-game play (HLE or BIOS) - FMV is sluggish with sound issues

R-Type Delta - worked in BIOS mode only - InGame worked great (pixelated but not sure if its just cause its PSX .....heh)--- this game also had issues with FMV (full motion video) and sound

and to those that have mentioned in-game sound.........have you tried moving your Right Thumbstick to the RIGHT.........(this is volume control for game) Left = volume down, Right = Volume up

dont know if thats in the NFO but i found this out playing Delta - the sound seemed low so i started pushin buttons and moving sticks around ---heh

Im am very surprised and impressed with this emu........

good work

To get your .bin and .cue files to work off a cd-rw or dvd-rw you need to burn them as normal data using the udf format.  Or you can just stick .bin and .cue files that you want to burn in a directory and then use a program like simplexiso to make an xiso from that directory and then burn that iso using whatever program you want.  Once you are in the main menu for the emu push in the button for the right thumbstick and it shows the contents of the directory.

hope that helps

Congrats, most impressive emu yet (and i thought that was GensX).

Played Parasite Eve, wow, what a blast, almost perfect (some clicks during movies, green screen between transitions from ingame to fmv).

But is it just me or do the graphics look slighty inferior to the PSX. It's like the scanlines are missing.
Great would be a scanlines and/or anti-aliasing option.

Everything else is really great, hope you will keep up that GREAT work!!!

Just a few things I have a PAL box and the picture is not aligned on the screen, too low and to the right a bit...

There is a screen adjustment option that uses both analog sticks...can't remember where though.  I'm at school right now so can't turn it on to tell you where.  Play with the settings, you'll find it.  First ran the emu and the screen was aligned low and to the right.  Adjusted it, looks fine now.  Dunno if it makes a difference if you're on a PAL box.

If it's possible to improve compatibility in the emulator, I would suggest that the games that are first made compatible are all the RPGs. In my opinion, every other genre has better games on the newer consoles.

errrr.... no. it barely runs some ps1 games at full speed, how good do you feel the chances are its going to run ps2 games? (disreguarding the fact that its not even the same goddamn system)

hummm... I got the PCSX last night and will try a CDRW with TRaider3 later this afternoon. I can't access the official site though (www.pcsx.net) and I have some questions:

Can I execute pcsx directly from the CD/DVD (as default.xbe) and put the .bin+.cue files next to it (hint-hint---->or in that folder "GAMES")?

If yes, does it automatically jump to the next CD image if it's a multi-cd game?

I remember back in the days of Bleem!, PSgraphics were rendered a better and faster on a G3 Mac. Is that also the case with pscx?

Do I need the plugin files I saw last night (but didn't download - bummer) in pcsx.net, to run it?

Could anyone please answer these questions with a Yes or No? Thanks in advance.

I just hope THEY didn't shut the official site down...

Oh, and Xport:
You Da Man!

Great work Xport, hope you're still reading among this mess, because i couldn't find your mail and have a great idea for you here:

I think you should implement a system which will make the otimal settings for each specific game. These settings will be taken from what the testers say is the best setting for each game.

That way one don't have to test every single setting, but you can just start the game with the pre-set optimal settings. I also think you should make a very simple program(for windows) which the testers can use, so you can gather all the information from the testers in a database, which will be a file that one can separately download.

So let's say i'm a game-tester and want to use your "TESTERS-PROGRAM" to give the best settings for ex. "PAL - Wipeout 2097" i use your (future) program that will have these small "on/off-boxes"(don't know what they're called) with every single settings-option you've got in Pcsxbox, like "frameskip - on/off". When i'm done i send this file which will be inserted in the database-file. So if someone else have this game and will run it on pcsxbox, they have to name the file to whatever i want it to be associated with, like in this case "palwipeout2097.bin", and if pcsxbox finds a file called that it will run the specific settings it's been configured with.

To find out what you'll have to call it one open "database.ini"(or whatever you'd call it) and search for Pal wipeout, and there it says that it must be called "palwipeout2097.bin" to work. I hope you've understood what i mean, otherwhise just mail me, 'cause i think it's great ideas to a very great emulator. If X-port doesn't read this i hope the rest of you will start chatting about it, so it finally will come through to X-port.

Best regards / Grönne

Just delete drive and path from the cue, so only TEST.BIN is in there.

OK I've been using CDRWin to back up my PSX games into bin and cue files. Only problem is some games, like MK Trilogy, use the disc to grab the music (ie: you can put MK Trilogy into your CD player and listen to it) but CDRWIN won't copy this information over no matter how hard I try. Can anyone enlighten me on how to do so?

Also, does anyone think we will have graphic filters for this thing? No disrespect, but the guy who ports all these systems never puts in cool visual options such as sharper graphics like the SNES guys do. Just wondering if I can look forward to this thing visually looking like a PSX exactly.

Thanks...

i dont think the graphics can improve that much untill someone figures out how to make a graphics plugin that uses the gpu. then it could look even better than a real psx. this wont happen unless theres a legal sdk.

I was just saying basically because the NES and Genesis ports this guy has done have been less than great. No disrespect to him at all, but they all have really poor GUI's as well as poor image quality when compared to Nester-X and XSNES9X, so I figured it had nothing to do with the PSX.

PS: When using CDRWin, you don't need the .cue file it creates, just the .bin file.
Also don't use CDRWin 5, use the older versions like 3.8.

The sound in Pcsxbox seems to be too low in volumn on many games. Maybe the next ver will get better sound.

I can't quite figure out what the heck I'm supposed to do!

First, what can I use to make .BIN, .CUE files? CDRWin crashes my machine (3.9b)

Second, once I get a working program to create the above files, WHERE do I put them? I think I havbe the right program (PCSXBOXV1.zip) and I found it in the usual places. (Just read this site very closely!)

Anyway, I have a folder entiled psxcds. Do I place the games in their own folder in that psxcds folder?

Then once, thats done, then what? Do I copy all this to the HD or do make a DVD out of this?

I'm so confused.

Somebody make some instructions - PLEASE!!!!

It's so easy, make the bin with CDRWIN, transfer it to your PSXCDS dir, launch up the emulator, choose the bin file, then choose either BIOS or HLE emulation, press a, voila.

yeah, stay away from cdrwin 5.0. it's common nature to go after the latest version you see, but that version isn't even done by golden hawk. it's garbage, and i don't even recommend anything that's 4.0A or newer.

dry.gif Hmmm...

I can find information on tons of cool X-Box emulators (primarily, I want one that allows PS2 games played but there's also ones for roms like super nes and such) but can find nowhere to download them.  I'm not sure if I can ask here, but if you want to email me, please do at:

[email protected]

*note: let me know before emailing me so I can disable my blocks (that is, if you're good enough to go thru the trouble for me  sad.gif  <-- puppy dog eyes)

I really, REALLY want to get my hands on some of these emulators.  Thanx in advance for any help smile.gif
