Title: 2 Emulators That I Have Not Seen Talked About...
Post by: dkoikadabra on September 19, 2002, 04:38:00 PM
Well, for the Sega Saturn, that might not ever happen. A few people/groups have been trying since the Saturn came out to emulate it, and the best I've seen so far is that they can run the BIOS, get you into the CD Player, and boot very few games. Just checked on Zophar's Domain now, and *one* emulator for the Sega Saturn can run games. Bad news: it's slow, and the source isn't available (AKA no port to the XBox). It's called Giri Giri, if anyone wants to check up on it.
The SegaCD emulator may happen before we're dead, however. There is a fullspeed emulator out for it on Windoze. I believe it's called Ages. However, the source isn't available for this puppy, so unless the autor gets the idea to port it himself, or until he releases said source code, it won't happen.
The Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Genesis, and all the other emulators were ported nearly instantaniously because alot of research been done on those particular machines and, therefore, it is fairly 'simple' to code an emulator for them. Another big hurdle that needn't be delt with on the mentioned systems was that source code was easily obtainable for the emulators of said systems. The two systems discussed above, however, are still fairly mysterious, hardware wise, and source code for an emulator for the systems are hard to find or non-existant. For instance, no one is quite sure how or why the Sega Genesis communicates to the 32X attachment the way it does. In effect, it makes it very difficult to make an emulator for the 32X.
Sorry for the bad news, my friend. I wish it wasn't so, myself. If I'm incorrect on any points, however, I'd be very glad to be proven wrong.

...I have no idea where the hell I would get games for the Saturn anymore, they are harder to find then NES games!

Well, it shouldn't be too hard though...  with the Sega Saturn, you're only looking at about 5 games smile.gif
