Title: Cool Idea, Cheat On Any Game While Running Debug
Post by: HCl on October 31, 2004, 10:11:00 AM
I got this idea today.. in that the xdk debug bios has an interface in reading and
writing to the xbox memory while a game is running.

I don't know if any of you know the old program gamewizard (it was for dos)
anyways, this program was able to create cheats for games on the fly, simply
by searching all memory locations for certain conditions. (much like how some
of the cheats in some emulators work)

Anyways, the same thing can be done through the xdk debug interface, over the
network..

The only problem with this is that someone would have to reverse engineer the
protocol msvc++ <- -> debug bios uses..

Just out of sheer curiousity, any good xbox coders out there who would be interested in this project?
I'll be willing to work on it, if someone will help in documenting the protocol MS
uses between msvc++ and the xbox

It's not exactly gamewizard but I think today's games are too complicated to build cheats on the fly.

no, thats not what i mean, and todays games aren't too complicated, they still
use normal variables to store their data.
With evox you need to create a new trainer for every game, and it simply patches
the xbe, my method would be using the debug bios, and would work for every
game. on the fly

*nods over and over*
though i'm not entirely sure about dumping the whole memory (msvc++ seems to be able to show specific addresses, but it might be dumping the whole memory each time),
it would probably be much slower than doing it locally.
also, using a bios hack to introduce a game genie idea sounds like a great idea,
has anyone ever posted this on bios feature requests?

[EDIT:

Asked the ind-bios people about it, seems it has been requested before..
but nothing has ever really been done with the request.. not accepted, not
rejected...
Maybe we should press the issue a bit more? since this feature can be (at least to me)
one of the best features of a bios as of yet.
