Title: Urgent - M$ Xdk, Doesnt Want To Debug
Post by: ramsus2k on October 15, 2004, 09:10:00 AM
I'm currently developing an Xbox application, i spent entire months getting all that is required to do this task (converted my 1.3 box to debug, got XDK, bla blah yadda yadda)

i got the box's TSOP flashed with Gueux's 256k debug bios, installed Complex debug dash 4627 and in my PC installed the XDK along with VS.net.

Now, the box does establish communication, it appears OK at the neighborhood, can be remotely rebooted, screen captures OK, all ok, but when i try to debug on VS.net, it tells me that xboxkrnl.exe caused an error because no symbols are loaded. then the proggy starts to run on the box but debug can't be made!

PLease, i need help with this stupid issue.

thanks

i think you need one of the 1mb debug bioses...
personally, i just have my 1.4 flashed with x2, then use phoenixloader to
load the correct debug bios and start my xdk.. works like a charm..

if memory serves you can't use visual studio .net with xdk 4627 (you have to use visual studio 6)
that is if you are running the 4627 pc side aswell, if its 5344 xdk or above on your pc it should work fine.

actually, i am not using the 4627XDK, i am using the 4627 dashboard.

question: must the XDK and Dash versions match??

im still unable to solve this issue...

no, i had the 5849 xdk on my computer, and the 4627 xdk dash on my xbox
(upgraded the dash to 5849 a while ago, no point in running an old xdk dash)

As far as i heard you're going to need a different kernel.. i read somewhere
that 256k debug bioses won't actually let you debug but just screenshot and stuff
like that..

i've been debugging on a 256k debug now for quite along time with no problems so i don't think it could be that.

SNICK!, what debug bios are you using, same as mine? Gueux´s?

i even formatted the PC and reinstalled everything and still no luck. didnt move any checkbox, nothing at all and still doesnt work. I'm so grateful youre lending a hand, you have no idea how urgent this is...

yeah i have gueux bios on my box

i really can't tell what your problem is, but try to get a different xdk and see if that works (i have 5558 with vis studio .net and used to have 4627 with vis studio 6 and they both debugged fine under the gueux (with 5558 xdk) and tatX (with 4627 xdk) bios's)

I'll blow my brains out, i got an older version of the XDK (4627) and nothing, still doesnt work, changed bios to Yoshihiro's and nothing, changed dash, nothing... It must be some stupid configuration issue with VS.NET.

I even reconfigured the PC from scratch and only installed VS.NET and the XDK. I dont have a clue of what to do next!

PLEASE, help, i'd be eternally grateful!! Please.

The infamous error:

I've experienced this issue.  Unfortunatly for you, I can't remember exactly how i solved it.  From what I recall, some xbox specific files were misplaced but not sure...

If Hydras-World Tutorial is not the one you followed, you might wanna have a look at it.

Good luck

Brouhaha, you mean files on the Xbox were misplaced? or files in the PC?

i did use hydra's tutorial, and followed every step. ive tried 2 debug dashes, hydra's method and the one by complex (4627).

please, try to remember, i need this, i really do.

So what? that error doesn't even matter.  You don't need debugging info for the kernel, just your program.  Just skip that dialog, or did you know that when youo install the XDK that it copies xboxkrnl.exe to your hardrive?  YOu could just navigate to that so it will stop whining.

for example, after clicking OK, i had set a breakpoint and it doesnt "break", it still doesnt debug. what do you mean by "navigate to that"?

I have been getting the same error in my attempt to get a Debug BIOS working with VS.  However, I get this error first:

"The Xbox target system is already running \Device\Hardisk0\Partition2\xshell.xbe"

I've tried every Debug BIOS I can get my hands on, and all yield the same result, so I know it's not the BIOS.  It's definitely an issue with the files on the Xbox.

Does anyone have a fix?  Thanks in advance.

I've had every problem that every person here has had. I've tried everything as well. Not sure what else to try, but I still can't get it to work.

Also, I have installed VS.Net on two different computers connecting to the same xbox. Neither one works correctly. I am assuming it is something with the xbox. I have gone over Hydra's tutorial many many times. I am thinking it may be a problem with the location of files on the xbox.

Will keep researching.

I've never had _any_ problems....BUT

If your using a BFM bios then you need the Debug RC4 Key for it.

Don't ask for the Debug RC4 Key thought, it's against rules.

OK, so if that's the case, what would I do with that RC4 key?

lubby, you RULE!

I did it a little different. I always wanted a way to launch a the XDK from Ava (my main dash) so I set up PBL metoo and used the Complex_4627_Debug_BFM-1MB.bin, ALL PROBLEMS that were listed in this forum are GONE! Thank you very much!

I was having the same problem about breakpoint in debug With VS2003, SDK 5558 AND Xbox V1.6...
I've found a BFM bios that works fine : http://gueux.be/modu...hp?storyid=3838

And now it works fine...
