Post by: BlueCELL on April 26, 2004, 04:53:00 PM
Hey Everyone,

I have just now released another Build of VXCR.  If you havent downloaded it already please click the link below:

VXCR PA404-431

If you are having problems gettings VXCR to open, download the PA404-104 Release and replace old files with the new ones.  Just incase it doesnt work!

I had a few people to test it and they said it works pretty good!  So if you find anything wrong with it let me know. Thanks

got encoding engine failed to initilize with the auto detect bitrate setting..

i set it to 192 and it works fine

also it corrupted one of my soundtracks sad.gif

it was find before i upped my new soundtrack.. then i went and looked at it and all the sound titles are weird chinese characters and its all the same song sad.gif

Yeah, when using Smart Detect it fails to initalize, then you get a Run Time Error.  But at 192 it seems to work.  Also, the auto-connect on program load doesn't work.  Also, this isn't too major, but it lists some songs twice, with differing file sizes:

When I try to make a sound track that is over the character limit I get a run time error #5 (Invaild procedure call or argument) and the program closes.

Perhaps the dialog box shouldn't alow you to enter more than the limit?

Aside from that, it's an awesome program.  I had been using Xbox Soundtrack Editor, but it was a bit of a pain to re-encode my files to wma, and then upload them and rename them.  This made the job soooo much easier. In fact, I just added 7 new sound tracks to my xbox.

Feature suggestions:
1) Adding of new soundtracks from a playlist, and naming of that soundtrack based off of the playlist.
Which would facilitate...
2) Batch mode uploading/converting.  Add a queue of playlists to be uploaded to the xbox.

Keep up the great work!

EDIT:
feature suggestion #3 a "select all" checkbox for uploading/downloading all songs in a folder/soundtrack

Hey,

Thanks for testing VXCR.

thetruethugg, it is not listing the same files wink.gif.  There two diffrent ones, look at the file size!  And Right Click for Select All etc.

SniperKilla, Send me your st.db file if you want me to repair it.

Other than that, I'll fix these bugs shortly!

Pete: had you previously tried build 104? If so, you may need to reregister the DLL's in the new location to get it to work properly..

SniperKilla / thetruethugg : Which format are you using? I've not had any problems with autodetect so far, although I haven't tried mp3's above 160kbps. However, with Ogg Vorbis files encoded at quality 9 (VERY high), it works fine...
This sounds to me like it may be in part to do with the decoding engine, but I could be wrong.. Does the correct bitrate show up in the info about the files?

Kuffs: You have to remember that this software is still early beta, and this release is to ensure that the core functionality of the app works on a large scale.. Don't worry, the cosmetics like char limits will be in place before the final release. Select All for upload is something I've been bugging BlueCELL about for a bit, but there were some rather major bugs to fix first, which have all been resolved as best as we can tell..
You'll note there are some other features in the options that are not yet available, for example, the VirtualDrive, the autoconnect on open, and also the delete song options.

If my understanding is correct, the VD will allow you to effectively do batch uploads, as you would convert and place on the VD, and then trigger a batch upload when you were ready to.

Playlist handling would be nice, but not essential, and wouldn't speed things up that much once select all is implemented.. Besides, not everyone creates playlists wink.gif

Which dashboard are you using? (ie which ftp server is being used?)
Also, have you tried deleting your settings.ini and trying again?

Do you have existing soundtracks on the xbox added via m$dash?

No, as I said it's just listing them twice, with differing file sizes.  Take a look at the picture:

user posted image

Sorry, the picture is kind of large, but I wanted to fit both windows explorer showing only 14 files, and VXCR showing 16 total items.  I've also highlighted the directory so you can be sure it's the same folder...

Wait, I just noticed 'Fire' and 'Synplicaty' are missing, it must be using the same song title twice for some reason (I can guarantee you this isn't my ID3 info).  So yeah, nevermind what I had originally said, but this is still some kind of bug.  Also, nevermind the 16?  I apparently cannot count.

Would you be able to send a couple of the tracks to either myself or BlueCELL ? I wonder if there is perhaps some corrupt tag information on there.. It has been known for various tools to add other tag information into MP3's, such as APE. This could be messing it up.. If you're willing to send a couple, PM me.

Urm.. You CAN'T have * (asterisk's) in filenames in Windows.
It is an intentional limitation, and unlike with most unix variants, you CANNOT get around it.

You can have *'s in ID3 tags, and it is possible that this would cause VXCR to fall over as a result..

Could you pm me about sending me a few of the files? Especially the two that aren't working properly, and a couple that do seem to be..

Just to check.. Are we talking about albums already ripped to your hard drive, or albums that are still on CD, as well?

I'll have a look at the no id3v1 stuff and see what happens.. I can tell you that it works flawlessly with compliant Oggs, but you do need to install the directshow filter, if you haven't already (find it on www.doom9.org )
Hrm.

I assume then from what you've said this time that these extra chars are showing up in VXCR, not in explorer, which makes a little more sense. I'll see about duplicating it.

Albums ripped to the PC already.  As for oog, I have about 90 oog tracks, that all showed the info as one track from another CD.

Title: Virtual Xbox Cd Ripper (build Beta Pa404-431)
Post by: [GS]EqUaTe on May 02, 2004, 01:05:00 AM
trooper: I had a similar problem with the build before this one, but I didn't get any empty tracks.. It would just be 6 tracks repeated as many times as there was space in the album.. (So if the album was 18 tracks, it would show 6 of them 3 times).

Do you have any soundtracks already on your xbox? If so, could you perhaps try deleting them from within the m$dash and reuploading?
Ah, just noticed that you already did that.. In that case.. Could you rename your st.db file to something else (st.db.bak possibly?), and then rip a single track in msdash to create a new one.. Delete that track and then the soundtrack it was in, and try again with the program? :-)

Otherwise, BlueCELL is going to have to track it down.. :-)

Rikkimaru: I suspect you've tried this, but I'm going to mention it just in case.. Reboot your computer and try again..
What format are you trying to convert and upload, and what is it doing when it gives you that error?

I can root out a program I used to fix that problem when I encountered it before, back when winamp moved to 2.9x, as they fixed their Ogg decoder to be compliant (I think it was redone by one of the official developers..)

I had this exact issue.  Fresh download - tried deleting the settings.ini file.  I am aslo using Avalaunch (not sure if it matters or not but curious).  I used his solution and created a soundtrack from the Xbox itself.  All is better now.  Not sure what the deal is though.  Nice program - I can't wait to go and do some gaming.

As I said before in the reply to pete's post, this will currently happen if the st.db is either badly corrupted, or does not exist. I suspect it may well have been the latter in both these cases, especially if you'd not used the soundtrack stuff in the msdash at all.

Once you have a working st.db, you can delete the soundtrack you created in the msdash, and then add your own from VXCR.

There will be improved handling of this in the near future.

Hrm.. Could you reinstall the VB6 runtime files please? (Can't remember a dl site just now, but if you can't find one I'll go a-hunting.. shouldn't be too hard)
Also, if you had a previous version, please reregister the .OCX files and delete settings.ini .

We will have documentation when the program is finished, but you have to bear in mind that this is a beta version. As such, you shouldn't really expect it to work flawlessly, and docs are usually the last thing to be done.
As BlueCELL said, there is an official website on the way.. Don't know if this will go live for beta releases, or just a while before the final.. We shall see.

Trooper: Can you just confirm the build number you're using? Also, did you have any of the older builds prior to this?
Cheers :-)

Using a clean copy of VXCR_PA404-431 I get:

Run-Time error '-2147221231 (80040111)':

Automation error

When I double click on a folder in the lower left box, I get the above error. I can only search to acess my music. It converts and transfers fine though. Great program. Are you accepting donations?

Don't know if BlueCELL is accepting donations.. I haven't a clue.

As for the error... Have you tried using the +'s next to the folders? Once a folder is visible, a single click will display the contents.

Could you also check that you have the latest version of the VB6 runtime files installed? (They should be /somewhere/ on MS's site.. feh!)

Hi All!
Got the "run time error #9 subscript out of range" error (Grrrrrr!). I have tried deleting all my xbox soundtracks and installing  a new one and deleting this as well as renaming the original settings.ini file but still get the same result all the time. I use xbmc ftp and have tried evox with the same result. Now I have zero soundtracks to listen to and am a bit miffed. Can anyone help with this as this looks like an awesome app if it's working and I have been looking for something like this for a while now. Help Anyone???

So i get this error when i try to upload a new soundtrack and .wma files. "the instruction at "0x77f581b2" referenced memory at "0x00730039". The memory could not be "read"." Happens when i rename the music before uploading.  I have no idea what this is, can someone help.

*EDIT

Also if i just try to upload without w/o renaming it crashs.

*EDIT

I just got an error trying ot copy music via the xbox.  "you have reached the maximum number of 500 track".  Something like that.  Anyone else get this.

*EDIT

So apparently, and i may have looked over it, but we can only copy .mp3's over that are then converted to .wma format.  We can't just transfer .wma files over without converting.  Is there a way to do this? I copy music using WMP so it saves them as .wma.  Basically i don't want ot convert my .wma files to mp3 just so they would be converted back to .wma when they are transfered.
