Well you will need to install the xdk, which yeah, requires VS.net.

OK, first of all, you do not need VS.Net to do screen capturing. Yes, you'll need the RC4 key, which is included in some packages. You'll just have to look for it.

you do not need the rc4 key (well not for a 1.0 or a 1.1 xbox)
just use the TATX_DUAL_DEBUG bios
(may work in 1.2 and 1.3 but im not positive)
(there are no debug bios released with focus video encoder support afaik so using any debug bios on a 1.4 or 1.5 console is out of the question)
im using those bios with the december xdk on my box and it works fine for screen caps
