Title: Problem Loading Game In Debug
Post by: BenJeremy on September 23, 2003, 07:05:00 AM
:::sigh:::

It's a true DEBUG BIOS - It doesn't run retail games.

Use TATX (There's a BFM floating around, or use XBTool to convert it) Debug instead, it has the required hacks.

Based on my other thread, I think I have figured out why the error occurs.  I think it has to do with my Xbox having only 64 MB system memory instead of the 128 on a debug unit.

The preview you're attempting to run is a release build, I'm sure.  The difference is just basically in how the XBE was compiled.  The XBE must be compiled in retail mode to run on a retail box.  So any previews or demos will also be in retail mode.  The only way you'll ever need to run debug .exe's is if you are developing, or you're running a homebrew debug build.

I've come to the conclusion that it's almost impossible to get a converted Retail game to run off Debug (real XDK or "fake" modded Retail to XDK). I've tried De-Xbe (very nice prog may I add) and it's worked with all apps/code, it just won't work with games that are originally Retail. Even when you switch it the Debug it won't run. I've tried it on numerous games. I just recently tried today to get Rainbow Six 3 Demo to run (patching it different ways) and I still have no luck. Maybe this problem can be fixed in the next release of De-Xbe?

well, i had this problem a while back. i have a retail box, and i couldtn find the debug bios etc (still cant) and i have a beta test version of Lamborghini.
i want to play it but it will not run on a retail xbox at all, and allthe copy progs i have used would only show up the normal xbox dvd files (vob etc).

would this game work if i had the debug bios?

Alcofrolic: in theory, the way that DE-XBE works, you could possibly get your Beta test version (of whatever game that is) to run on a Retail Xbox by using DE-XBE. I've only tried getting Retail to run in Debug (and had no luck), not vise versa like you. So by using DE-XBE it may or may not work.

90% of preview builds need more then 64 mb of ram to run. It has to do with the way they where compiled. De-xbe looks like it could fix this, but it doesn't. The prog seems to use a lot of hacks or something. As this point, there is no way to play preview builds on a moded xbox with De-XBE nore retail games on a debug kit.

If the XBE runs from a non-debug bios, then it clearly doesn't require 64MB of RAM.  However, retail XBEs will not run properly under a debug bios, and that's just something we've all gotten used to.  Not too big of a deal, in my opinion.

If you don't know what the hell a debug Xbox is for, then why do you have one you fool?

Go sell it on eBay and maybe someone who does know what it's for can pick it up.
