Title: Can't Get Backup Copies To Run On Debug Kit

Hi, I can get all Xbox software (XBMP, XToolbox, emulators, etc.) to run on my real Debug Kit's HDD using the "Dexbe" program by patching every .xbe to "Debug". My problem is that my XDK won't start any of my game backups. I want to be able to run Retail games on a real XDK. So, I patch the .xbe (of the backup) to Debug, but everytime I try to start the game I get an "Cannot execute Xbox executable" error. Does anyone with experience with an XDK and/or Dexbe know what I'm doing wrong? Any suggestions or answers ASAP would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mystic you don't have to be a jerk, you have no idea who I am and what I do with my XDK. I didn't want it solely for backups. Trying to get Retail backups to run is just ONE of the things I'd like to learn, there's a thing called: gaining knowledge & understandment. What if by finding out how to run a Retail game's .xbe... that I make an App or game buillt with the XDK; I could then distribute it to a wider audience of people with it running on Retail Xboxes. There's nothing wrong with trying to figure out how things work. Every little thing I learn, discover, know, etc. can help me learn the Xbox's software. I'm sorry that I annoy you just because I'm curious.

Anyway back to the topic: I got a Debug version of Outlaw Golf and through Dexbe I can see that it's the FINAL game, just patched for Debug. I've numerously patched Retail .xbe's to Debug and messed with the certificates of it, but still no luck. I'm sure there's a way to patch the .xbe, so any game can run on it. I'm wondering if anyone knows how? Again any HELP or TIPS would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes I have changed the media types that the .xbe supports. I've changed it to support HDD, Xbox DVD, CD, etc. and combinations of those. I haven't tried the DVD-R stuff though, maybe that'll help. I'm also not attempting to run these Retail .xbe's off a disc, I'm doing it all off the XDK's HDD... if that makes a difference in any way (it probably shouldn't). Any more suggestions? Feel free to throw them my way. Thanks.

I have no trouble playing backups on my retail xbox that I converted to xdk while running the xdk. I don't really know what the deal is. Also, I was bidding on that thing when you were cuz I have been wanting a debug kit for some time now. I don't know how you can get things running and I wish you luck but if you ever want to trade for an xbox running the xdk and has switches to go back to modded retail then get in touch with me. Or I'd just pay you what you paid for it

or meet somewhere in between with a trade.

The reason your Retail Xbox converted to XDK runs back ups, is because it's still a retail Xbox, it's just running the XDK BIOS. So I'm sure it's much more compatible with backups. Also I'm not interested in selling it. My next hunt will be to find a real Development Kit (the clear ones). I know those are different than a Debug Kit (also alot harder to find), it probably has better software loaded onto it. I think Debug Kits are more for testing software, when a Development Kit is more for creating and moddifing games/apps..

The XDK is an addition to MS Visual Studio that allows for programming of Xbox Software...

As far as I know... There is no Development Kit console (aside from the Debug Unit), and you can't program games on it even if it does exist somewhere...

lol!!!, well the bios is the only thing that matters in this case. There's no hardware difference other than the extra ram and the rc4 key in the mcpx. So really it's just that you can't figure out how. Also, I can understand you not wanting to sell it. The developement kit is going to do you absolutely no good since you can't get games to run on your xdk.

Well... I'll atke your word on that for now... But I've still never heard of/seen one...

If they do exist, I highly doubt they would be made for creating and modifying games and applications, since all of this is pretty well laid out with the XDK and Debug Unit combo...

At any rate... If you don't know how to use it, you really shouldn't go out and spend a lot of money on it...

Just because someone can't get backups to run doesn't mean the XDK is useless. It can be used to create games, software, apps, etc. It's in no way a waste of money. And also to all who are skeptical about Development Kits (the clear ones) look here:

Also note that Debug Kits say "Debug Kit" on the front right side of the box and Development Kits say "Development Kit" on the front right side of the box. The Development Kit also has extra space on the top of the box (it's higher than a Debug & Retail), is that because there's more hardware inside the Development Kit? As I said earlier Development Kits are much harder to come by and I'm sure there's some sort of difference between a Debug and Development Kit, probably software wise.

I NEVER said the Debug Unit was useless... It is VERY useful for people to Debug Homebrew Software with...

It's pointless for someone who wouldn't know what to do with it (not that I'm saying you don't) to spend money on it when they want to play backups...

Again, I've never heard of these... But I'll take a look into it...

Whatever they are... I can't see how they could be all that much better than the Debug Units (You can do practically any Development you need to do with the Debug Unit... Heck, you could even write your own Xbox Software without a Debug Unit)...

I'm more or less just saying... Don't go out and blow your money on a Special Edition of a console that you have no idea about what it does or how it can be used (not directed towards anyone, just a general message)...

Ok cool info guys really informative, thanks. And I do have the latest XDK v5558 loaded onto my Debug Kit, when I first got it, it had XDK v4039 loaded on it. I have it backed up on PC HD, I don't know if v4039 is older than the oldest version that the Xbox hacking scene has, could there be advantages of having an older version maybe? I don't know myself but if anyone wants that version maybe a "donkey" might be hosting it (if you catch my drift).

the reason it doesnt boot any retail games regardless of what you do to them is that they were signed by ms. what you could do is use the bfm x2 bios, or the phoenix loader perhaps. dev kits are different from debugs as they have the port for dvd emulation. other than that it should be the same (ram might be different)
