Yes, great work!

However I ran into a snag.  When I try to build menu it says "Unknown Dashboard Version". I transferred my whole 'xboxdashdata.1012a700' folder just in case and select it when I build but I keep getting that error. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Ok I got it working, copied some more files into there, xboxdash.xbe for one, not sure which one did the trick.

I got error 21 on boot. I know I'm resigning the wrong way, not sure what to select there really.

OK, great beta of XDashUtilities. I havent used it yet, but would like to know if anyone has a way to put back their xaps the way an original Live Xboxdash is? I've been using Gcue's Music Easy Config v03 to custom my MS Dashbord and the XDash Utilities says to use unmoded/fresh xip files. Anyone have any problems with modded xip files working with Xdash Utilites?

Thanks

OK, just tried the new BETA of Xdash Utilities v1.0.11

I used a fresh and fully tested original M$ dash and a fresh set of files from the xboxdashdata.1012a700 folder

I customized the "SubMenu" names and added a couple of apps and one game.

Pushed the "Build Menu" button, browsed to the xboxdashdata.1012a700 folder, got a confirmation of successful edit and a popup to find WinXIP.exe

Loaded up WinXIP and pushed the "Resign Dashboard".  Browsed to the mint retail dash and loaded up all XIP's by browsing to the xboxdashdata.1012a700 folder.  Got success confirmation.

Verified that several files in xboxdashdata.1012a700 did get modified and that the "xboxdash.xbe" file changed as well.

All seemed OK.  FTP'd the entire xboxdashdata.1012a700 to xbox along with the freshly signed "xboxdash.xbe" in the root of C:

Rebooted and guess what?  Xbox reboots itself as it tries to load the M$ Dash.

Even went as far as to load a fresh mint X2 4977 bios, totally unmoded.  Got Error 21

Any Ideas?

Also, is there any way to automate the signing of the M$ dash?  Manually selecting and loading XIP's is a real pain! I loved that the previous version used PixIt and did it instantly!

after resigned the xboxdash.xbe, seems no change made to those files. e.g., I added 'doax' to menu, but can't find any string 'doax' in all of the files except for the original .wxm file.

is it ok?

falconsfan -> you are using forward slashes ie. '/'. where you should be using double backslashes ie. '\\'

eg.

"Device\\Harddisk0\\Partition6\\GAMES\\NCAA2004"

* Do not use this program in conjunction with the dashboard color mods.

i have a 4976.02_Silver_Noani_256k bios, this why i cant get my dash working?

@dfunked :

Don´t forget to use 2 "//" behind the name of your directory !!!

Your path should look like this : ""Device//Harddisk0//Partition6//GAMES//NCAA2004//"

This will work !

By the way, make sure that all files exists ! I had a dashboard error 21 because I had "default.xbe" for evox, but the file on the hdd was "evoxdash.xbe".

(shit, I can´t use two backslash //  here !! why that ?)

is there a way to add images to the games? Like the images when you look at your savegame halo on the memory section of the dashboard.
Thanks

X-S forums software converts double backslashes "\\" to singlke backslashes: "\"

So to make double backslashes, you need to use quadruple backslashes: "\\\\" becomes "\\"

Just "double up" but don't forget, it will strip the doubling when you edit, so you need to re-double them if you do an edit.

Post by: IntestineMan on August 06, 2003, 11:44:00 AM
unsc1, yes I do.

I have the unmodified xboxdash.xbe which loads with phoenix. It currently has the font exploit right now. I will try later and take out the font exploit to make sure it runs normally. Then I will flip on modchip and see if it runs modified dash. I think it should because the font exploit is working!

unsc1, the secret is to have a different directory for your modified dash files. See my explanation earlier or if you can follow SpencerBr's tutorial.

SpencerBr, good to see someone else got it working!

It is actually quite simple but I guess it helps if one is familiar with all this stuff first. For a newbie to try this right from scratch is sort of intimidating.

I don't have that xboxdashdata.10027100 folder on my XBox, everything is right there on C: - I'm running a 1.0 Xbox with a non-Live dashboard. I get "unknown dashboard version" errors everytime I try to make the menu, and my default.xbe is in a folder I made called 'xboxdashdata.10027100'.

no, look for the folder in your c drive that has these files

default.xip
dvd.xip
jkeyboard.xip
etc..
and replace the xboxdashdata10027100 folder with the folder you just found

It's all right there on the C drive, not in any folders. I've tried copying the whole drive over, and still I get an unknown dashboard error.

SLAYERS MS DASH AUTO-INSTALL v1.0

Ha Ha Ha, nah, not for a long time... laugh.gif

I worked my ass off on two installer versions.  I am sitting on the side lines on this one untill it evolves a bit.  Remember my installer is designed to be used by noobs, so if developers and people like me are having problems you can imagine what would happen....

In tone with that, anyone know what the heck is happening and why my dash modding attempt failed?  I mean I followed ALL instructions, used virgin M$ signed files to work with  and got positive confirmations all the way!  Yet I get reboots or Error 21 depending on the bios I use (X2 4977 color or X2 4977 virgin)

The only thing I can think of is that my xbox is v 1.1
Is that why this is happening?  Anyone confirm it works on v1.1, and if so, exactly what bios did you use?

Whenever it reboots a screen comes up that says error reading disc. sad.gif

no its not an error its just means you have the wrong directory biggrin.gif

I found a little bug in the porgram, it didn't hurt anything, but it was annoying to have to rewrite everything.   Anyway, here's the bug.

If you place commas "ie.  This does this, this, this, and this " in the ITEM INFO box, then save your menu, then load the saved menu;  the commas cause the info behind them to replace the information in the XBE NAME box and the PATH TO XBE box.

Oddly enough this didn't effect the dash when I made the menus.  I made them, built the menu, signed the dash, uploaded it to the XBOX and they work perfectly fine.  Only later when I went back to make adjustments did I notice this bug.

I was also wondering if it would be possible for you to add the ability to edit the main menu titles from "Storage" and "Quick Launch" to whatever the user wants.  I personally have gutted EVOX and am using it solely for FTP puroses.  So, I would like to rename "Quick Launch" to "FTP Server" without having to manually do it.

Anyway, great program!  This has deffinantly made things easier!

For the love of god, someone please post a really good walkthrough on this (I know the ones you've been posting are great, but I'm still stuck) - including what version of the dashboard you need to use, and you need one that you don't already have, then post how (not where to get it) to install it on your Xbox, so you can use this great utility.

Ok, for everyone who can't figure out where to get the latest dash, heres how.

1.  Go to your local video store
2.  Rent "Star Wars:  Knights of The Old Republic" (there are other LIVE enabled games that will update your dash to the latest version, but I'm 100% positive about SW:KOTOR)
3.  Place disk in XBOX
4.  Go to the Download content option
5.  Wait while it updates your dash to the latest version

It is that simple people!

This will even "fix" any changes you may have done to your original dash.  So, be carefull you don't "update" your edited dash.

What I did was go to Burnout 2 (I'm sure it will work with any other LIVE enabled game too) on my F:games folder with boXplorer then just ran the file "dashupdate.xbe".....and BOOM, it updated the dash.

After you do this, can you use this as your default dashboard, or do you have to boot to it from EvoX? I would rather use the MS dash, with a link to EvoX in it. Should be my last question.
Title: Xdash Utilities By Xtech
Post by: unsc1 on August 07, 2003, 09:33:00 AM
your probably gonna want a hacked dash and an original so you need to do what intestineman did back on page 2 of this thread it works great and yes if your bios looks for evoxdash.xbe first then move your evoxdash.xbe to e or f and then name the hacked MS dash evoxdash.xbe.

Ok, I finally got it working, I added Apps and Games to the menu, with a link to EvoX, boXplorer, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer - now the problem is, when I choose "Quicklaunch" form the Dashboard, I get "error: does not exist" - what did I do wrong? I followed the instructions just fine. Do I have to do something to get the dash to recognize my F drive?

Currently the only way to add "Preview" pictures would be only if the xbx file for each item was in the xip file(default.xip).

it's not convienient, but it will work.

Some of those things are not possible.....YET

The Evox.ini style configuration is doable....but defeats the purpose.
You still need to have that file inside default.xip. The xbe does not allow files to be loaded outside the dashboard heiarchy, with the exception of audio files, and gamesave files.

I'm not sure why you have to hex edit the xbe every time. ??

The only other possibility is to obtain a "no-Xip check" xboxdash.xbe, which would allow you to modify files using XdashUtils, but you wouldn't need to resign.

** If a new WinXip (with Automation support) is released...the only thing you would have to do is edit the menu, and upload. I'm told it's not too far off.

I'm getting the same problem. Or very simular. Its copying the new built default.xip, mainmenue5.xip,settings3.xip, and the music2.xip in my C:WINNTxduTemp.
And its Batch file doesn't follow the destination I tell it where my xip files are.
So I have to copy and paste them over where I keep all of them.
So, it seems the batch.exe file is wrong, or a bug is in there or somewhere else or in the XdashUtils.
I just kinda made a soultion to this weird bug in XDashUtils. I found the Batch.dat file and px.ex and copy and pasted them back to where I keep all my XIPS for my editing of my new MS Dashboard. and then edited the Batch.dat file so it creats the updated Xips in two places. One where its supposed to be and the other still in the WINNT/xdutemp folder..

Apologies for any bugs found......

the good news is, I'm making very steady progress with the new version (which btw, will not have a temp folder or batch files).....

expect it sometime this week. This version will be much more dynamic than the last, including Ftp Listing, and if used correctly, you wont need to type in a single Path to an xbe file. Point and click.

Also will include a few easter egg color option plug-ins compliments of Gcue + voltaic.
