Title: Editing Default.xbe

QUOTE (DARKjojo @ Feb 9 2003, 08:08 PM)
QUESTION: What tools do I need to edit and create my own .xbe files? I have the XDK but cannot see how to do this using what is in this kit. Other than the XDK is there anything else out there that edits and creates .xbe files?

REASON: I want to create my own personal intro for my xbox games. All I want to do is add a screen at the beginning of each game that tells me when I ripped the game, the date the game was released, who the publisher and developer are, and other various tidbits of information. The screen will only be there a few seconds before it continues on to load the main game. I wish to accomplish this by having default.xbe call on a custom .xbe file, say game.xbe, which will do what I desire. Then when game.xbe is finished it will tell default.xbe to continue.

There are tutorials on getting started (look at my signature).

The source to MXM might give you a few clues on launching applications, too.

DARKjojo,

The easiest thing would be to create your own XBE with the XDK or OpenXDK,
have your program to execute the original default.xbe (you would have to rename
this though) once your XBE has finished, instead of trying to inject your code into
the original XBE.

There are something for Win32 PE files called exe joiners that will 'stick' your exe file
(intro or similar) onto another exe file, which would create a new exe file (with both exe's).

Haven't heard of anything like this for the XBE format though.

If XBE "sticking" were only possible. Theoretically it should work if both were compiled using XDK stuff as EXE, then converted to XBE using Caustik's tool, but I'm pretty sure that doesnt work. Never tried though, could be possible.
