Is it possible to make a DVD/CD burner software that could handle different DVD-R and CDR drives? Would great to have.

If you think that this was attainable, do you truly believe that people would be messing with ftp programs and all this methods on burning it. The Xbox game cd cannot be read on a standard computer dvd drive, stop dreaming with all those pipe dreams and ftp your xbox to the comp.

I know, but it could be useful anyway. It could be a portable CD recorder so you could make a music CD from your existing mp3s on your Xbox HDD, making backup of large files etc.

If you just want a portable cd burner, there is a way you could do it. I used to run nero in vmware with the ide-scsi module loaded and then give vmware raw access to drive. This allowed nero to actually burn cds. I wouldn't recommend trying too fast of a burning speed though, and burnproof or something along those lines is essential. Good luck.
