Title: Ebox Iso Repacker...Is It Comming?
Post by: XBoXMan on June 02, 2002, 11:42:00 AM
We all know there is an iso reader.  But if we planing to do our own rips.  The reader can only extract the iso but cannot repack it.  It would be kool if someone can make a xbox iso repacker.  Then we can talk about ripping the game on our own....cough...make a forum name "X-Box dvd-rip" like at ps2ownz for ps2..hehe

Sorry for the error in the topic...should be Xbox, not Ebox

Ok, I dont think this is requesting stuff, but is there any sites out there with info about the X-Box SDK..? It would really help out in testing this idea of mine..

a good reason to make one is so home brew software would be legal by not using MSs iso maker

Don't know if this is correct but I think that Easy CD Creator does UDF format as well. I was going to upgrade from ver 4.2 to 4.5 and saw some thing in the release notes. Though the versions are a little old, I'm sure the new version (ver 5) has the UDF format as well. However I think it would still be a little harder than just using Easy CD Creator or Nero.

How bout a program that can read/rip the dvd instend of the ISO. Not everyone has a cable connection to download the ISO's. Hopefully soon we'll see this a reality.

Bye

Yes and don't forget about making a backup of your backup for one of your friends... If they don't have a CD/DVD burner you should be able to make a backup for them...

So i hope some good working programs will come out soon...

Think that writing a util to rip the original DVD files is a little more difficult than you might think.  Ive been playing with the code now for the best part of two weeks and the code that allows me a specify sectors to be read on a normal DVD fails on the x-box disks horribly.

I have a strange feeling that its going to be hardware dependant, remember reading somewhere about a Hitachi drive that might read them when used with a little util, but not sure how true that is.

I know that if you hook a standard dvd drive up to a modded x-box it will allow the use of cd-r media and cheap dvd-r's but will no longer read original x-box games.  Im wondering if there is any milage in trying to get the x-box drive to work on a PC (ide cable from PC into xbox with lid open so that the x-box is powering the dvd drive). Comments / sugestions on this are appreciated as I dont have as much time to experiment as I'd like.

Im also half way through coding my own version of the iso ripper but with an iso image rebuilder... dont hold your breath for a release date though as its not a major priority at the moment.

let me get this straight, you can extract the image from the disc with the ISO reader then repack it?  Or is it that you can extract the ISO, rip some stuff out and then repack it?  I got a little confused...  huh.gif  blink.gif

It is possible to read the .iso file from a 'scene' released game (Project-X, Riot Etc) and extract the files.

My Version of the Software to do this will allow you to extrtact the files, remove, add or modify files and then re-build a working ISO image. This would be useful for making CD versions, Multi DVD games (If a menu is ripped or written), adding trainers or intros etc.

As far as reading from the X-Box orginal DVD disks to create the .iso image in the first place this is where the theory of it being hardware dependant comes in as all my attempts at raw reading sectors from the disks fails horribly (although I know the code works as if you try it on a PC dvd it works fine).

Still looking for any help / suggestions on the ideas about connecting the x-box drive to a PC, or info on the truth about the hitachi drive being able to read x-box disks.

Sorry if the orginal post wasnt clear.

About connecting a pc dvd drive to the xbox... is there a site for this?  Would it still be powered by the pc, or would it be powered by the xbox?  This is sooo interesting, but I really don't want to tear apart my xbox.  Also, I assume you need a modchip installed to do this... would that assumption be correct?

The 'PC' DVD drive is powered by the x-box.  You have to use one of those power splitting connectors and run it from the Hard Drives Power connector.

The DVD drive has to be run as a 'slave' unit and the IDE cable is unplugged from the X-Box DVD drive and into the back of the 'PC' DVD drive.

Obviously you have to leave the top off your x-box for this to work.

Havent got and details on what DVD drives work and which ones dont at the moment.

Maybe others could post their results / failures.

rolleyes.gif I never knew we had a contest..

the extractor is still a bit buggy.. and works only on the minority of ISO's (it seems I only had ones here that worked).. also every self-made ISO's was also extractable..

but the rebuilder works very good and shouldn't have problems.. (at least that's what I gather from tests of users)..

i hope to release a fixed version soon which extracts all ISO's..

It is coded completely in Delphi 6.0.. My main resources where of course the document by Quincy and a lot of fiddling around (and of course some brain-twisting on how to successfully get it all together <g>)..

Yes, I got feedback and I think I solved the problems with the non-working ISO's in the Extractor.. I just sent a 1.1RC1 to a friend of mine who is testing right now.. And if comes back with "working" attached on it, I will release the new Version..

all this ISO reading programs are cool n all but they will not do too much good if u can't repack/recompile files from ISO to create an ISO like sony cd/dvd generator.

TOSHI> Thanks for the APP, but out of 5 Isos it's only been able to fully extract 2. The ones that gave me problems were morrowind, gotham racing, and ufc tapout. (all project X releases) It gives an error and just stops because it wasn't able to extract whatever file it was on, while extracting. For test drive it almost did the whole thing then I just finished the rest with the XDFS reader. Thanks again that app is awesome.

Personally I do think it's feasible to read-out DVD's via the Network connection to a PC.

With the recent information on the possibility to get the XBox to allow Swap-ins of different discs by just changing some bytes in a binary it's just a matter of FindFirst(), FindNext() and transfer via Network to read-out DVD's.. I'm expecting releases of Readers soon.

Just my $.02
