Title: $100 Challange, Attn Experienced Linux Xbox Moders
Post by: CakeBox on September 05, 2004, 12:08:00 AM
I have a challange for you Xbox Linux guys and it is worth a crisp $100.
I need an xbox running linux that will do the following.
1. Boot into linux 2. Open Mplayer 3. Automatically attempt to load a MMS:// link 4. Play the MMS:// link in full screen.
I'm not asking anyone to send me an xbox or for me to send one to anyone. I just need to know the steps and that it has been accomplished. Maybe a video of it working or an image file of the hard drive so I can test it out.
If you can get this working I will have more work for as this project is BIG. It would involve loading a web page and clicking on links that would spawn mplayer to start playing mms:// links.
I know you can do this in XBMC because I've got it working. I need it to work in Linux.
Thanks
~CB

This is no big deal, I think you just need to add a line like mplayer -zoom mms://foo.bar.baz/quux.asf & to your /home/xbox/.xinitrc file.
I'll try it out if I can find out where my brother put the controller :)

Worked fine for me, but it's /home/gentoox/.xinitrc and not /home/xbox/.xinitrc
Mine looked something like this:
CODE
# something here I forgot what
mplayer -zoom mms://some.site &
startxfce

Put your money away dude. The answer is not worth a 100 bucks. Flash a cromwell bios, install gentoox (instructions on their website) and add the command like joemonkey says. Easy!

Yeah, if you really feel the need to spend that $100 go donate to the EFF. And if you don't want the free goodies you can send 'em to me ;)
