Im going crazy about this now, i cant stop trying to fix the softmod of my xbox.
I have read a lot of guides and stuff but all the things that seems to have worked out for others dont work out for me.
Well, my version is
K.1.00.5838.01
D 1.00.5960.01
I downloaded xboxhdm 1.9, did everything i was told to, made an linus iso, succesfully hotswaped.
no errors, all fine.
booting xbox, copying blank playlist to "Eggsbox", some kind of "thank you" screen showed up and shortly after i had a black screen with a text something like "all the required resources can not be loaded, this is normally because of lack of HD space on E: or Y: (i think it was), try ftping to resolve it"
Well, when FTPing it seems like I have only read only access to the C drive, and I didnt know what to remove.
Tryied different ways to re-soft-mod the xbox, with original ms dash files, as well as dash files from the slayers disc. Still not working. I get up "error 21", or "xbox cant read this disc", or the "lack of harddrive space" depending on wich files im using to softmod it.
And, the strange thing; i have read a lot on the internet, when other people got their dashes screwed up it seems like the still can play original games on it, well i cant! i can only play audio CD's.
Please help me someone!
By the way, I dont have a backed up eeprom. But as the HD is readable both in xbox and in the pc i guess i could solve this problem without it..?

This post should get you working. Don't select any options in Kingroach NDURE 3.1 apart from the default ones and your kernel (5838).

Thanks!
Im just wondering about
"build your xboxhdm disk using the stock C from Slayers / AID, and Kingroach NDURE 3.1"
I have downloaded the "Slayers Evox 2.7 FINAL" iso, when browsing it i should extract the system\all\c into the
xboxhdm\linux\ndure\c folder, and than run the make iso win file, is that correct?
-
If I'd meant that then I'd have typed that!!!!
Do what the post says - stock C in linux/C, the Kingroach 3.1 C files in linux/ndure/C/, and the Kingroach 3.1 E files in linux/ndure/E/.

Im very thankful for your help, but im sorry to ask you stupid question, i dont understand what you mean by "stock".
My slayers disc is just an iso, and therefore i will have to extract the C folder from it, right?

Yes. Use Qwix to extract the files from Slayers system\all\c, and put them in linux/C/ (not linux/ndure/C/).
-
Alright.. I did exactly that. Everything went on fine thru the installation.
When booting with original gamedisc the the xbox i just get the screen again about the lack of HD space, and when booting with the ejectbutton i get into the dash, and there is a blank soundtrack, but when copying in to Eggsbox (yes i spelled it right with the german ss letter) i just get the message that i have reached the maximum number of soundtracks and therefore cant add any more..
-
Maybe i should use another ndure file? Mine is at 9941 byte
-
You've lost me.
You built the new xboxhdm iso, hotswapped, and rebuilt the disk according to the instructions in the post I linked to. If you built the Kingroach files properly, and followed the instructions exactly, then when you put the disk back in your Xbox and reboot your Xbox is modded - no need for soundtracks or anything like that.
What exactly did you do?

I dont have any mod chip, and therefore i guess i have to go thru the soundtrack menu?
By the way, when Im finished with ndure in xbrowser and i have closed it, i just shut off the computer, shut off the xbox, then unplug the IDE cable and replug it to the xbox.
When booting with power on button i just get the screen about that it cant load all the required resources and that its normally because a lack of hd space on E. At this point i can connect to the xbox with ftp but not read the contence of the C folder, only the E and with read only.
When I boot it with eject button i only get into the dash, i can play audio cd's and see the settings menu.. thats all. When trying to start a game (original disc) i get back to the screen again that required resources can not be started because of lack of hd space.
Well the harddrive also starts spinning at maximum rpm when entering the screen about lack of hd space.. it didnt do that earlier..
-
Try cold booting with Slayers then ftp to the Xbox. If you can get access use ftp to delete the contents of X, Y and Z, and E:\cache\.
.... and you don't need the soundtrack menu!

I dont have any contens in none of the X , Y or Z, and I dont have any folder on E called cache.
But, now i can see the contens of my C drive, i couldnt do that earlier.
in C:\ i have
folders:
Audio
fonts
xboxdashdata.185ead00
xodash
and these files:
Xbox Book.xtf
Xbox.xtf
xboxdash.xbe
in E:\ I have the folders;
apps
backup
dash
ndts
TDATA
and the file boot1.bin
In D:\ these folders:
alocale
data
and these files:
config.dat
dashupdate.xbe
default.xbe
update.zbe
X, Y, Z are all empty.

Delete the contents of the backup from E, in case it is a space problem on E.
If that doesn't work, get hold of a copy of Frosty's Rescue disc, cold boot with that, and see what is on the real C partition.

I got into the new dash EvolutionX..!
nice..!
I deleted everything on E before i saw your reply.
But i still cant play original games.
How do I use this dash?
Is there any kind of filebrowser or anyting?
When choosing "launch dvd" it quits the dash and i get error 21.
-
Kingroach installs UnleashX as its dash, on the E partition..... so I now have no idea what you have done! You clearly didn't follow the instructions I linked to!
If you want a clean softmod, start over again as described in the post I linked to, and follow all of the steps, not just the last three. It's the early steps (Hotswap and run xboxhdm, select option 1 - boot VGA Console, then type xboxhd, then select option 2 - Rebuild C partition on existing Xbox drive) that give you a clean base to start from, and that make the softmod behave properly!

I really give up on this thing now.. I've wasted 2 days trying this and somehow it just wont work..
i dont know if i have got the wrong ndure installer or xboxhdm..
May i ask you for a enormous favour; please please please could you make the iso for my kernel and upload it somewhere, so that the possibilty i screw something up would be minimal..? Or if u could send it to my thru icq or msn or something.. please! i would really appriciate it..!
That would be so nice, im sorry that i have already taken a lot of your time.
-
Yes, that's the right one - and I have now figured out why you have Evox!
You have booted the rescue dash, because you have deleted the full dash from E:\
So. FTP to your Xbox and check the contents of your C partition. You should have seven folders:
audio
bios
fonts
media
shadowc
xboxdashdata.185ead00
xodash
and two files:
xboxdash.xbe
xb0xdash.xbe
If your C doesn't look like that, let me know which folders you do have.
Then use ftp to copy the Kingroach E files and folders to your E partition. You should end up with four folders:
app
dash
ndts
NKP11
(app and NKP11 will be empty).
Once that's done, reboot your Xbox
-
I did everything again,, and deleted ONLY the e:\backup folder.
When booting i still get "Not all required resources can be loaded, This is usually caused by lack of HD space on E:\ or X:\. You can try FTPing (192.168.0.100:21) and correct the problem"
Well, when FTP:ing I have only 4 folders in C:\,
Audio, fonts, xboxdashdata.185ead00, xodash and 3 files: Xbox Book.xtf, Xbox.xtf, xboxdash.xbe.
In E:\ the FTP client shows these folders: app, dash, ndts, NKP11.
Well, the interesting thing is that if I hotswap and look in C:\ with xbrowser, then I have exactly the files you told me should be there, the 7 folders and 2 files.
I really dont understand this..
-
If you can get to the UnleashX file explorer then delete the contents of the X, Y and Z partitions, and reboot - or do it via ftp, whichever is easier.
-
So what happens when you boot the Xbox? How are you getting ftp access?
-
Which disc have you got in the D drive?
-
The D partition is ALWAYS the DVD drive, not just when you are using ftp...!
What happens when you boot without that in the drive.....
-
Is there any possibilty that its something wrong with the HD ?
I can't even boot original games, they shouldn't demand the right ms dash to boot right?
Is there any way i can extract the eeprom from the harddrive so that I can put another HD and look it with the eeprom?
I really can't work out what's wrong with it.
Or might it help choosing "build new hd from scratch" in xboxhdm menu?
-
The eeprom isn't on the hard drive, it's on the motherboard, so there's no way of extracting it from the disk. You could build an eeprom reader to get the eeprom from the motherboard.
In the meantime, "Build new hd from scratch" has got to be worth a try!
-

Tried the "Build new hd from scratch" but still without success.
Should I try another dash and in that case which one?
Why am I getting the error 21?
Why can't create new soundtrack in ms dash? (it says i have maximum 100)
Is there any chance of getting to work by trying out different kernel versions from the ndure 3.1 installer? Maybe the generic one?
-
Why are you creating soundtracks?
-
QUOTE(Heimdall @ Mar 18 2009, 12:21 AM)

Why are you creating soundtracks?
cause i wanted to see if my ms dash was able to copy music from an audio CD to the HD cause im suspecting that somehow the xbox has lost it's permission to write to HD and is in some kind of read only mode.
-
If the disk was in read only mode then you'd probably get errors when using xboxhdm.
I'm still not convinced that there isn't a problem with the way you're building and using the xboxhdm boot disc ....
Build your xboxhdm disk using the stock C from Slayers / AID, and Kingroach NDURE 3.1. Put the stock C in linux/C, and the Kingroach 3.1 files in linux/ndure (the Kingroach C and E directories and the ndure script should be immediately below this i.e. linux/ndure/C/ and linux/ndure/E/.) Maybe try the generic fonts, as you suggest, but don't select any other options.
Hotswap and run xboxhdm, select option 1 - boot VGA Console, then type xboxhd, then select option 2 - Rebuild C partition on existing Xbox drive. Once that has finished exit, then type xbrowser, delete the contents of the E partition (this bit is new), run the ndure script, then select option 1.
Don't select any other xboxhd or ndure script options. Don't copy any other files. When you've finished, then from xbrowser you should see the seven folders and two files on C, and the four folders on E - nothing else.
-
Another interesting thing is that if i try to delete something from E:\ when FTPing and than refreshing the folder, all the folders names are changed into some cyrillic letters. If rebooting xbox and connecting again to FTP the folders names are back to normal.
This happens independently of what FTP client Im using, I've tryied the built in Internet Explorer's, FlashFXP, as well as WS_FTP.
-
I went today to buy a broken xbox on the market for about 15$..
I reliazed that just the dvd drive was broken, and i replaced it from my other xbox, and than started sofmodding it, just the same way as i did with the other one, just another kernel version.. and guess what...??? IT WORKED PERFECTLY even at the first try...!!!
So the only thing i can figure out about the first xbox is that 1. ndure kernel v. 5838 doesnt work, or; something is wrong with the hardware on it...
Now im gonna look for some nice software for unleash x..! i heard somewhere that there is a N64 emulator for it,, gotta check that out!!
By the way, how do i play ordinary DVD movies on the xbox?
How do i quit a game to get back to unleash without having to reboot?
-
I have almost the exact same problem, except I can still get my games to work... I am also about to go look for an xbox to buy. Wish there was another alternative.
-
if you can boot games, boot one play a bit then pause, hotswap and load your ndure on pc and check the xbox hdd file structure to see whats missing. If you boot without a game in does it seem to load a dash but just a black screen with no red led errors ?
-

Well the first xbox on which the softmod didnt work out i have thrown into the basement cause i have already spent about 3 days with that shit.. My "broken" xbox that i bought today works really great.. no probs at all.
If I would boot the last xbox without a game inside i would just get the black screen with text about that required resources cant be loaded cause of lack on HD space..

Yes! I am about to try the game play hotswap playing Fight night round 3 in career mode will swap after it saves and I start next fight. hopefully that will unlock it. Didnt think of that before. thx.

What exactly is the eeprom? I assumed it was another dashboard.
-
QUOTE(Madnezz @ Mar 19 2009, 09:18 PM)

Ok, going back to before I posted last I built a boot disk using Slayer's C and E and ndure, when I tried it, I got the same results flubber, then its like a dash is starting <i say this because there apears to be a hic-up on the screen, then it stays black with almost a green tint to it, and no numbers or letters anywhere..
That said, I was going to try the game and hotswap... Well... I cant get any game to start now...
Tried many multiple combinations of starting, IE: power button vs. CD tray... I am going to unplug it for about an hour then try again... Wish me luck...
BTW:
What exactly is the eeprom? I assumed it was another dashboard.
Did u select the correct kernel version during ndure setup?
If you did a backup in ndure you can reverse it..
as i understood it the eeprom keeps the keys for the hardware, which are necessary if your HD would crash and u'r going to replace it.

Couldnt edit my last post a second time, it will still not play games for some reason it just quit...
I cant seem to find any answers, called around to all the game stops, none of wich have any xbox's for sale, one did have a memory card and a splinter cell copy so I picked them up, thats what I need to try to softmod without hotswaping right? I looked onn my HD where I backed up my xbox's C and E drives, I didnt see any eeprom.bin in there. BTW I know what eeprom is now so no need to answer the question b4.
Can I use any old HD and rebuild on it, or is my xbox just a large unsightly paper weight?
Well, I'm out... Tail between my legs and moral low.
K.1.00.5838.01
D 1.00.5960.01
And I selected 5838
I believe I did a backup with ndure I could swear it! How do I find out and use it?
That is the same kernel version that i had on my first xbox that i never got to run!
You can restore the backup if u hotswap, boots to linux with your discs, types xbrowser, run ndure.. i think it was the 4 th option "restore backup" or something like that.. Well I never got that to work myself..
When i bought my 2nd xbox i had kernel 5101 and it worked great to softmod it.
If it still doesnt work try to put the general kernel version i ndure installer and make a new boot disc, and go all thru the installation again.. I never tried this out because i got another xbox so cheap..
Or i can recommend you to get a "broken" xbox cheap somewhere, as i did.
If the xbox has not been opened the chances are big that just the laser is worn out, than you can replace it with the one from your 1st xbox.. Like i did..
Also, when softmodding, you should ground the PC chassis with the chassi of the xbox to avoid electrical shocks both for your hardware as well as for you.. I read somewhere that the ground levels between em could differ 108 V.
-
I must go back and say that I have sucessfuly softmodded this xbox! It was all working fine until I tried to play a dvd, thats when it started going to a black screen.
-
HEY HEY!!! My friend donated an 80gig Seagate lockable HD for Operation: Xbox's aren't Paperweights.
Trying to build it as U read...
-
well, to do a new HD u have to have the eeprom.bin as well huh? well that would have sucked, had I not tried one more sugestion, and that was to unplug my XB dvd drives power and see if my HD unlocked...
IT DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh HAPPY MOFOOKIN DAY!!!!!!
Thanx for all the help, Trying to figure out configmagic now so I have a backuop of myu eeprom
-
Hi, I want to say that i have the same problem.
I had build a bootable cd with slayers c and d and ndure and get only a Blackscreen.
I have the same Kernel 5838 on my Xbox 1.0.
I have bought a already softmodded box and have mad a Backup CD with hdm so I can always make my Xbox working if there is anything wrong.
Maybe there is Problem with the Softmod on 5838 Kernel ?
Can please someone explain to me was the Kernel are ? Is it something in the Original Msdash or on a Chip.
Why have the oldest Xbox 1..0 the newest Kernel?
I only wanted to change my Softmod to the Ndure Softmod.
I apologized for my English is it not my Mother Language
-
Hi,
I finally get it working.
I have selected the wrong Kernel. I think because my Xbox was already Softmodded It shows me under the MS Dasboard Settings the wrong Kernel
There it shows Kernel 5838
Dash 5659 (this was a reason for me too to upgrade the Softmod)
But i read on this Post there are no Xbox 1.0 with a Native 5838 Kernel.
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act...&qpid=50910
In the Settings of the evox.ini there it shows something like:
Bios originally 4034.
So I make all again and selected in the Nure installer the 4034 Kernel.
Ftp C and E to my Xbox and now I have unleash X on my Xbox.
So I think to look in the MS dash to find out the correct version of the Kernel is not the Best Idea on a already Softmodded Version.
bye Baldur
