Alright, so a friend of mine has a broken Xbox that he's going to give me, and I don't remember for sure, but i think it's the DVD drive that's broken. So... I should still be able to pull off a softmod with xboxhdm and ndure, right?

If however, it's the HDD that's gone, is there anyway to softmod with a new HDD?

Yep. Use Kingroach 3.1, CASH or Slayers for the standard 5960 dash, xboxhdm and hotswap.

If the HD is broken you'll need to build an eeprom reader to get the eeprom first, then as above, remembering to lock the new drive when you've finished.

hey man if its your DVD drive thats busted Id follow a tutorial on how to fix it as you need it for most
xbox exploits(e.g.) gamesaves. If your HDD is busted you will need your xbox's EEPROM from the motherboard to make a new HDD or fix this one with xboxhdm 1.9 or whatever program you choose I have only had experience with that program and so far it has been very reliable.

To get your EEPROM from you mother board try this tutorial I found while searching for your prob, or if its too big of an hassle I guess just send it to someone to repair it to you.

Ive never used them but there the only ones I can think of. Try the tutorials to see if you can fix your DvD drive before buying one though. Also I'm not responsible for any damage or injury that might happen because of anything I just said, just hope it helps. happy.gif

I don't think you can - I think you need a game to trigger the update - but even if you could there's little point if you are going to do a hotswap softmod, because you are going to replace the files on the C drive with the Kingroach ones anyway. Get hold of CASH or Slayers, and use the standard 5960 C files from there as the base for the Kingroach NDURE build - the Kingroach manual explains this. Build your image with Kingroach, hotswap (PC or xbox, either will work), erase the existing C drive, copy the Kingroach C and E across to your drive, and you're all done!

Alternatively, if you have another modded xbox (I'm guessing you have as you're a member here  smile.gif ) and an exploitable game, and don't fancy hotswapping, you could swap your DVD drive into the 1.0 xbox and do a standard gamesave softmod using Krayzie 1.1.1. To do that completely you'll also need a "recent" live enabled game like Halo 2 to update the existing dash to 5960 before you start.
