you probably damaged some of your dash files during the auto update.
you could try to boot a slayers rescue disk. It is based upon the evox dashboard and allows ftp to the xbox harddisk. Using this, you can repair the dashboard (probably under e:\dash).
you will need a dhcp server on your network. Also check out what self burned media your xbox accepts. Some xbox dvd rom's only accept dvd-r of a certain brand.

today i tried to restore my C drive from backup, and reinstall ndure, still same blank screen.
This does not make sense to me though, unless the restore does not -really- restore everything, then shouldnt it have worked if i had damaged some files?
would you recommend slayers disk to me still?
also, do you think that maybe i should try to get my eeprom from my xbox and try a new hard drive, or should i first try to solve this booting issue.

restoring c drive from backup and then overwriting C with ndure (option 2)
restoring c drive, booting into original dashboard, restarting, hotswapping and installing ndure
booting using both eject and power buttons
all of the above give blank screen. what gives?
i should add that my dvd drive is totally messed up, does not read, does not open.
also, while in the blank screen state, the eject button blinks green.

the problem was the following:
i took apart my dvd drive in attempt to fix it. i left it in an "open" state. there is a little button inside that tells the box if the drive is open or closed.
if the drive is "open" and doesnt have a disk in it, then xboxlive boots. why? dont know.
if the drive is neither open or closed, nothing boots
if the drive is closed but there is no disk inside, unleashx boots.
i dont know what happens if a disk is present, since my drive is borked.
i hope this helps someone down the line.

nkpatcher in the softmod has tray-state logic to decide what to boot.
