After 7 days of trying everything i could find to softmod my Xbox i'm just left with as huge headache. I just want the eeprom.bin file so i can upgrade my xbox's hdd to a 40gb hdd. I have no money, thus the softmoding, so i'm not able to hardmod it.
It is an original Xbox. I got it on it's release day. It's been in storage for awhile due to my moving quite a few times, but i updated the dash with SC:PT so I have that covered. I would rather not slice up a good break-away, my only one, If i don't have to. I don't even have a memory card for the thing, i just use the hdd.
Problems i've had:
When trying to use the xboxhdm method all my computers reboot while trying to load initrd.gz
When trying the risky Bert & Ernie font hack, hdd_driver dosn't see the drive.
What i want:
A simple Way to get the eeprom.bin file from my current hdd. If possible, just tell me how to do it without directing me to a tut that directs me to a tut, that directs me to a tut, ect...
Thank you.

You could hotswap. Read HERE

I hotswap just fine. I use the playing audio from the hdd method. My computer sees the hdd just fine.

Use xplorer 360. Hotswap and start windows.. then just run xplorer 360 and you will be able to see xbox hard drive.. Now, just drag and drop the Ndure installer files into xbox hard drive.. There is no tutorial.. but its rather easy..
-
Am i to find xplorer 360 in the "Usual Places" or is there a certain place?
NVM.. I got it. I'm faced with 4 partions. Where is the eeprom.bin located?

(since i can't edit again, could a mod merge this with my last post)
Since i'm a noob, you'll have to tell me what to copy over. my xboxhdm folder is setup as it says in this tut. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=496263

you need to mod the xbox first, then get the eeprom.
heres files to copy ( follow step by step to be safe):
from "E" folder, copy "dash" and "ndts" folder to partition 4 ( just drag and drop in partition 4)
now, in partition 3, delete settings_adoc.xip file from xboxdashdata.185ead00 folder
copy "bios" and "media" folder to partition 3 from "C" folder
copy earnie.xtf to partition3\xodash folder from your C:\xodash\ folder
copy xbox.xtf to partition3\xodash folder from your C:\xodash\ folder
copy x2onlinedash.xbe and x0nlinedash.xbe to partition3\xodash folder from your C:\xodash\ folder
copy xb0xdash.xbe to partition 3 root from "C"
delete xboxdash.xbe from partition 3 root and copy xboxdash.xbe from "C" root to partition3 root
now copy shadowc folder to partition 3 root.
reboot the xbox and it shoudl be modded.

While copying shadow.img, it gave two clusters out of range... Will that affect anything...?
-
Sorry for a trinary post. Since shadow wouldn't copy over i just left it out. A few questions. Why is my saves gone and i have no space on the hdd? When i first turned it on after softmoding it it FRAG'ed and then i hit the eject and up poped the original dash. Did i do something wrong?
-
did you copy "dash" folder to partition 4?

Yes. I also found that partition 4 wasn't on the drive when i hooked it up to my computer again... So, i'm going to try again.
Okay i once again get the out of range error while trying to copy shadow.img over. It boots and i get a yellowqish-orange lcd. now what?
-
This means softmod is installed.. you can burn avalaunch or unleashx to a dvd/cd-rw and boot it in your xbox.. Then you can just ftp and copy the "dash" folder and see if all the files are intact.. Bios is installed but it cannt find the dash, thats why you get error when booting..
-
so i have to boot with it correct? So, i just burn Config.xml, Default.xbe and English.xml to a Cd-rw? Or will i need to have anything else on the cd?
-
no.. that will do it.. just make sure your network settings are correct in th eunleashx config.xml file..
-
I popped the cd-rw into the drive and got the standard media error so i cold booted it and it is just a black screen. I miss a step somewhere? BTW, i'm using UnleashX_0_39_0222A if that matters...

Just an added question, then i hope i can leave you alone. Where is the eeprom backup option?
