Title: Updating Softmod To Ndure
Post by: psiko_17 on April 06, 2006, 02:23:00 AM
I am currently using the UDE2 font exploit.  What is the easiest way to update my box to use the NDURE exploit with shadow C?

psiko_17, this is maybe the easiest way for you:

1. create a /E/backup directory and ftp your 5960 backup (or SlaYers 2.6 \SYSTEM\ALL\c's contents) into it
(so /E/backup/ has at least the xboxdash.xbe and Audio, fonts, xboxdashdata.185ead00 & xodash [folders+contents] in it)

2. create a /E/ndts directory and ftp the Ndure Toolset (from kingroach's Ndure 3.0's) into it

3. launch /E/ndts/default.xbe (LED will go red) and choose Backup/Restore -> Refresh C Drive

{; there is no 4 ... you've Ndure'd the Xbox already! ;}

5. choose Install Menu -> Install UDDAE if you want to more completely Ndure it

6. boot with the Power button and ftp your 5960 backup (or SlaYers 2.6 \SYSTEM\ALL\c's contents) into the empty (virtual) C drive if you want the MS dash in it.

OOPS ... I initially forgot to provide this essential information (that must be done before step 6):

* create a /E/dash directory and copy your current dashboard folder's entire contents into it *

This way the Power button will boot your existing dash (so you keep everything you've already setup)...

D'OH! ... just remembered a "4." IS needed, to put Ndure 3.0's new files in place:

4. choose Install Menu -> Upgrade Ndure 2.1

(If you have a G drive already, then choose Nkpatcher Settings -> Use Nkpatcher.67 (With Retail)<=the 2nd option)

well thanks for the UPDATED info Ndure protagonist - however it comes a bit late im afraid...

i read your post before you added the 2 extra steps, and followed it step by step to try and upgrade.  once all was done, the xbox would only boot to the M$ dash.  I was only able to regain FTP access by loading the 007 game save again.  At that point I wasnt sure what to do, so I just went ahead and removed the gamesave for UDE and installed the game-save for Krayzies Ndure. I then reloaded the exploit, and installed Krayzies like usual - and it worked BUT - EVERYTHING ON F: AND G: WAS LOST.  After reinstalling krayzies, it booted to unleashx like usual - but there were no games so i checked the control panel.  It was showing the total size/free size as if the games were still there taking up space, but I could not access the games from within the XBOX or via FTP.  I finally formatted both F: and G: and just reinstalled all the games.  I'm assuming the problem was something to do with NKPatcher and the fact that the UDE exploit used an older version???

Anyway - WHAT A NIGHTMARE! And the worst part - it wasnt even my xbox! It was one that I had modded a while back and he wanted it upgraded.

I guess there are two morals to this story...

#1 - if it aint broke, dont fix it!  blink.gif

#2 - PLEASE DOUBLE AND TRIPLE check your posts before you submit them - especially if you are providing instructions like this.  Dont get me wrong Ndure protagonist, I'm not complaining - all turned out ok in the end - but it was certainly a frustrating night!  biggrin.gif

By the way - Once you get this edited with all the proper steps - it should be pinned - I'm sure it will come up again!

I wish I'd verifyed it before posting too (I normally do) and I apologize for any inconvenience.  However, when I did here's what I found:

a. as initially posted, it Ndure'd the Xbox.  However, if there wasn't already a default.xbe in /E/dash, it booted the Ndure Toolset (in virtual-C mode);

b. by copying the existing dashboard into /E/dash, it then booted that instead (due to the Nkpatcher pathing);

c. it was booting the softmod dash with both the Power and Eject buttons though, which step 4. overcomes.

I provided what the poster specifically asked for.  Although updating to Ndure isn't for everyone (of course) it is of interest to some.

If I complete all the steps with the 2 extra posts, this should then be a working way to update to ndure. Also without losing any information stored on my F drive?

kulprit; yes and it installs Nkpatcher(11_U02) with .06 support enabled, which should see your existing F drive.

(This process only automatically changes the C drive's contents ... if you keep a separate backup of that, you'll have a recovery point for your existing softmod, in case anything unexpected happens.)

all you had to do was change the bios type type to .06 to make the games show up. I sometimes wonder why I include a readme if people not gonna read it anyway...

Fwiw, this suggests that the Restore option was mistakenly chosen (re. 3.'s choose Backup/Restore -> Refresh C Drive).

thanks krayzie! i had looked thru the readme and not found it, but when i checked the .nfo it mentioned it so i dug deeper into the Extras and that is what I needed apparently.  thanks, krayzie, for the awesome installer - it works like a charm everytime.  i've probably used ur installer on close to 200 xboxes!  this was just the fist time  i ever tried to UPGRADE from an older mod.  oh well - lesson learned, and i'll check out the Extras !!!

Hmm, I'm guessing 'kulprit' did it (re. "Was just checking out all the great options after I upgraded from UXE to ndure3") but then took a different route: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act...dpost&p=3352437

No, I did exactly as you said. Then ran the ndure toolset again and set eject to boot the msdash, but since there is no option to put it back to normal I will just leave it as xboxdash.xbe i guess. I couldn;t get uddae to run, although I was just testing stuff anyway. I get it to bring up a thankyou note to game developers, which i thought was the uber dash. But then it just reboots back to xbmc (my dash). Is there anything else cool I can do now that I have updated it, but all I was after was something that was less likely to bugger up anyway.

Thanks for the help though, should be put into 1 post and sticky'd, definately worthwhile.

Thanks for the feedback kulprit; re. your UDDAE finding, I'm wondering if you did all of the steps entirely as stated (was xboxdashdata.185ead00 in /E/backup and did you do step 5)?

The process is re-doable though and if you still have the 5960 backup and the toolset in place (as per steps 1 & 2) you could just peform steps 3 through 6 again.

Re. your question in the other thread, you can change it to always boot the softmod after doing step 4 (while you're still in "red LED" real-C mode) by copying /E/ndts/files/C/bios/06/basic/bios.xbe to /C/bios/bios.xbe {67 not 06 if you have a G drive}.

What files and folders are in the /E/backup directory and do you mean the Eject boot is giving the error 21?
Title: Updating Softmod To Ndure
Post by: Ndure protagonist on April 17, 2006, 10:15:00 PM
Those are all good.

Launch /E/ndts/default.xbe (LED will go red) and choose System -> File Explorer ... how much space does it show next to C and E?

Also, when you choose C what file and directory names does it show?
Title: Updating Softmod To Ndure
Post by: Ndure protagonist on April 17, 2006, 11:03:00 PM
Those are all good; when you choose the fonts and xodash folders, what file and directory names are in them?

Also, start up again with the Power button and use your dash to copy the /E/backup directory's contents into the empty (virtual) C, then see if the MS dash works when you then launch that C's xboxdash.xbe.
Title: Updating Softmod To Ndure
Post by: Ndure protagonist on April 18, 2006, 12:19:00 AM
kulprit, the real C is still Ndure'd ... no softmod can be booted directly with the Power or Eject button when the real C is totally retail.

I understand your UDDAE circumstance now ... UDDAE is installed for the real C's MS dash usage (such as via the Eject boot the steps installed) but you're launching the virtual C's MS dash instead, which results in MS's "credits easter egg" for the button combo.

It can also be installed in the virtual C, if you want to see it work that way, by launching /E/ndts/unleashx.xbe (not default.xbe), doing step 5 and then invoking it the way you are...
Title: Updating Softmod To Ndure
Post by: Ndure protagonist on April 18, 2006, 01:49:00 AM
That's right and the MS dash Eject boot can be re-enabled by copying /E/ndts/files/C/bios/06/retail/bios.xbe to the real /C/bios/bios.xbe {67 not 06 if you have a G drive}.

(It's also possible to change the type of MS dash the Eject boots, via the toolset's Tray Open Options...)
Title: Updating Softmod To Ndure
Post by: Ndure protagonist on April 18, 2006, 09:47:00 AM
mvorchard; since the virtual C's MS dash also isn't working, then the /E/backup is almost certainly incomplete/corrupt.

Also, the UDDAE install couldn't cause the Eject boot to error 21 (any which way) and the "error" indicates that unleashx encountered an anomaly when it was processing the script actions...

I suspect the cause to be insufficient free space on E and consequently recommend that you:

a. backup something large (lets say 500 Mb or more) from the E drive and then delete what you backed-up (from the E drive);

b. delete /E/backup and /E/ndts too;

c. ensure that your MS dash 5960 backup is good (maybe get it from SlaYers if you're not certain);

d. re-do the steps (except re. /E/dash, as that's been working fine);

e. when you've confirmed the install was successful, you can restore whatever was backed-up in a.
Title: Updating Softmod To Ndure
Post by: Ndure protagonist on April 18, 2006, 12:06:00 PM
Don't delete anything from real C!

With sufficient free space on E, you simply need to supply the entire MS 5960 dash backup plus all of kingroach's Ndure 3.0 Toolset and perform the steps as stated ... it will subsequently install the real C the way it needs to be.

(If you want to see what it does in detail, view the /E/ndts/Config.xml file and find the sections therein for the options that are chosen during the steps.)

Not even the real C/backup directory, that does not look like the one of mine????

Why I asked? Because my real C only has 704Kb free, and this might be the problem.....

You didn't say anything about the UDDA.... need not to worry about it??

Cheers,

I'm not sure if it helps, but I had a problem upgrading to Ndure from Krayzie's UXE installer, as I couldn't remove the UXE softmod. But I went along and tried to upgrade and somehow my C drive was totally messed up. What I did was reformat the C partition with xboxhdm and delete everything off my E drive except for the TDATA and UDATA folders. Then use Krayzie's Ndure installer. Now everything is fine and works great beerchug.gif

I am having the same problem as X_Cheat3R with F drive. I haven't formatted it and it did not do so during the install. The read me says nothing about 06 as bios type. My softmodded xbox had all my photos stored on the F drive. Is there any way to retrieve my data? Please say it is possible. The raw data is there it never physically erased it. Now I have 0 used and 0 available disk space when it used to be about 220 gigs. Also now the evo x UI states that the bios is unkown....?

I followed the readme with the krayzie installer and then came here when I had a problem. His readme doesn't say anything about 06.  I read it four or five times berfore I installed and after I read this thread. I thought I wasn't paying attention. Is the data retreivable? Can I get my photos back? I didn't read this thread until after I lost the F drive and again, the readme doesn't specify or give a warning about data loss on the F drive much less say anything about 06 or 067 bios details. Why does the bios say unkown now on my dashboard?

I haven't formatted the drive. The dashboard and ftp shows 0 GB available. The raw data is still there. Maybe directories are still there and everything is still intact. I haven't messed with it. I don't want to do anything in hopes that my family photos are still there. I can always put my games back on the drive, but I should have backed up the photos to disk. Thanks. Nobody to blame here but me. Hope someone can help me out. I wish I had read this thread first. The readme never mentioned it. maybe it can get updated for morons like me. mvorchard; the UDDAE step is optional ... it will work and can be done anytime, provided the /E/ndts is there (and E has sufficient free space at the time, for unleashX to perform the actions).
