Title: Deadparrot's Dual-debug Installer
Post by: deadparrot on November 05, 2005, 06:30:00 AM
Over the past few weeks, I have been working on getting the XDK to boot with a dual boot.  You may have noticed a few threads on different bits and pieces of it, and maybe even the manual install package.

I now have it working beautifully, and decided I would make it easily avaliable for everyone.

What You need:

1) Xbox
2) Krayzie's Ndure installed
3) XDK dash/loader (DO NOT REQUEST!)
4) CD/DVD burner, and media your xbox can read
5) This Package
6) To read through the included Flash program.

Release Details:

Torrent Name: Dual Debug (DebugOnEject) Installer [Flammable]
Category: Applications > Other OS
File Name: Dual_Debug_Installer_v1.0[Flammable].rar
File Size: 7,061kb or 6.89mb
----------------------------------
Contents of disc installer package:

Dual_Debug_UX_Installer.iso
Flammable.exe
Flammable.hqx
Read Me NOW!.txt
----------------------------------

There is no NFO.  Run Flammable.exe (Flammable.hqx if you use a Mac) for instructions and info.  It is a standalone Flash appliaction.  Requires Flash Player 7 or higher.

[/release details]

It is currently only avaliable as a torrent and can be found on "The World's Largest Bittorrent Tracker."  If you don't know which one that is, google it.

THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN THE XDK DASH OR PC FILES!
If you don't know where find them yourself, you are not smart enough to use this.

I decided to go with a little twist on this, and not include an NFO, but instead, put in a Flash application, which I think is much more interesting to read.

"Flammable" is not a release/warez group.  It is simply something I brand onto anything I release from now on, seeing as today is Bonfire Night in Britain.

Everything except the non 1.6 BIOSes has been tested, as I only have access to my 1.6 machine.  If you know of one that you know works, please tell me, and I will add it.  This is a public release, but I still need people to report bugs, and test it out fully with as many different combinations as possible.

All testers will be placed in the credits, as with anyone who aided in development, either directly or indirectly.  If you find yourself in there and wish to be removed, it can be done.

Comments and suggestions please!

Well, thanks. If understand this correct, this will allow us to use a Debug Bios through Dualboot, right? This will allow us to make screenshots etc. or am I wrong?

Well, getting it right now (or trying to), but you forgot to seed wink.gif

Post by: deadparrot on November 05, 2005, 06:44:00 AM
That's exactly what it does.  I am seeding, it's just that the tracker hasn't recognized me yet.

It allows you to use the XDK fully through a dual boot, so you don't loose the normal xbox features.

Odd.  I can't connect to the tracker...  If anyone can seed, drop me an email [flammableguy(at)gmail(dot)com].

Another thing I forgot to add:

When you unrar it, it will expand to fill 310mb or so.  This is because it includes a blank 300mb test file used as padding for higher compatability.  You can delete it from the ISO if you wish.

Torrent updated.  I can now seed properly!

Note: You will not see seeds listed, but they are there.  This is due to multiple trackers being used.

Also, discalimer:

I am not responsible if you fuck up your xbox in any way, or if it stops functioning as a direct or indirect result of using this installer.

Nicely done! Now that fine gentleman by the name of "ltools" can turn his box in to a dev kit like he so wanted to do, all the while telling Krayzie that his ltools "exploit" is better than Krayzie's NDURE exploit, with all its "restrictions" lmao (yes, *I* am aware that Krayzie created the installer, not the exploit itself, but you should read the post in the gamesave forum for a good laugh). Sorry Krayzie, but that post literally had my cracking up.

Great work on the ease of use deadparrot, now I'll go see about fragging my box!

How about you drink a nice cup of STFU. Ok. I never said that one was better than the other. I said I PREFER The LTools installer over the NDURE installer. I have nothing against Krayzie. He seems to be  a kickass guy. And I applaud him in the fact that he has a successfull line of installers. I just prefer to use a actual hacked BIOS instead of a Patched kernal is all.

Oh and @ parrot. I tried this for the afternoon (yes i did use krayzies). Nicely done man.  B)    Thanks alot for this great installer. But sadly i really have no uses for teh XDK. I cant do anything with it any way. lol. SO back to LTools for me.

Don't hacked bios have no shadow c: ...surely thats got to be the absolute must especially considering the unstoppable momentum of the noob with the delete file option found in many dashes... not to mention a virtual eeprom, the protection for I must screw up my xbox at the earliest opportunity crowd with a nice spanky config magic application.

I admit I know nowt about the pbl bios softmods ..could anyone say what advantages/disadvantages between NKP and Hacked Bios

See here.

The installer actually loads EvoX M8 to bypass NKPatcher and the shadowC features so it works properly.  You won't find a file explorer on there though!

is the only difference between a debug and retail bios
the two XOR keys (kernal_thunk and entry_ point)
or is there more to it ?
Title: Deadparrot's Dual-debug Installer
Post by: deadparrot on November 07, 2005, 01:16:00 AM
Debug BIOSes look to e:\dashboard.xbx for the XBE to boot.  And have built-in FTP capabilities (well, I assume they do, as the xbox is single-threaded) for taking screenshots/videos, transferring debug code, etc.

I can only list features, seeing as I do not have the capabilities to actually dissasemble the BIOS itself.

Post by: Horscht on November 07, 2005, 08:38:00 AM
Allright, just installed this on my Xbox (Krazie's Ndure 1.0 of course), and it works flawlessly. Now the only thing left is to find a tut on how to make screenshots, but I didn't search, yet. I only noticed one thing. Now RoE (Reset on Eject from DVD launched xbes) seems to be (or rather definately is) disabled. Is this necessary, or can I just replace the current NKpatcher with a RoE enabled one? If I can, could you just post the cofig file you used so I can edit it to my needs?

Thanks in advance

Horscht

Well, some sort of edit.

I got myself the XDK tools installed, and taling screeshots from DVD games seems to work fine. I also tried a few programs that were in the XDK launcher (Dolphin and playfield for example) and I also noticed that it has a remoteX entry (EvoX for those who don't know). I launched that and wanted to launch a game from HD. Well, the list is empty so I guess it wont read anygames from the F: drive. I am using a 1.6 xbox, therefore have the 1.6 BIOS installed. Is there some way to LBA48 patch the debug BIOS?

Thanks in advance, again

Title: Deadparrot's Dual-debug Installer
Post by: deadparrot on November 07, 2005, 10:08:00 AM
Just compile one that moves the shadow C to E:\shadowc.img

That's the only difference.

Regarding loading games from the HD:

I put UnleashX into the E:\devkit\samples\ folder so I can use that instead of EvoX, it only started recognizing the games on my F drive after replacing the Config.xml with a more up to date one.  It does appear to lock up whilst scrolling sometimes though...
Title: Deadparrot's Dual-debug Installer
Post by: Horscht on November 07, 2005, 10:19:00 AM
So, the bootpaths are

E:\Dashboard\default.xbe    when closed and

E:\Dashboard\altdash\default.xbe when opened, right?

that's all I need to set specificaly for it to work?

EDIT: i now know why it won't show my games on the F drive. It uses a .67 debug bios, but I need a .06 one. I'll search around for that, perhaps there is one in the usual place.
Title: Deadparrot's Dual-debug Installer
Post by: deadparrot on November 07, 2005, 11:41:00 AM
Exactly.  I don't have the .06/.67 problem, since my xbox only has an 80gb drive, which is fine for me, but didn't allow me to test out LBA48 stuff...

I am working on version 2 currently.  This was just a basic package, v2 will include lots of features, such as:

Uninstall (I hope you don't need this, but it's usefull for upgrading)
Alt. Debug Dash
Alt. ShadowC location (E, F, or G)
and more...

Just to wet your appetite.

I just got around to checking out the later XDK releases (5849 and 5933) and realized that you may have problems installing them using v1.  I would not recommend using it to install anything but 4627 until v2.

v2 currently supports install and uninstall of 4627 and 5849.  5933 coming soon.

I may release a v1.5 to simply get 5849 and 5933 support out there, then add extras into v2.  I hope to have something out sometime next week.

Stay tuned for updates.

I've finally got the install/unistall scripts done, so hopefully, I'll have a release out soon.  Just got to do the documentation.

If you know how to setup a dual-boot, you should be able to figure out how it works by extracting the ISO and looking through the config.xml in there.

Also, if someone would be kind enough to explain in detail how dual-boots are implemented (file locations) with other Ndure setups, I will include support.

M8 is only used on the disc to bypass NKPatcher.  The installer deletes xboxdash.xbe from E:\XDK\C\ before installing.

Well, I gave in and put up a new torrent.  Same place.  Just hope it works properly since I can't use mongo anymore...

Anyway, here's the changelog:

QUOTE
From v1.0 to 1.5

    * Added support for 5489 and 5933 versions of the XDK
    * Added uninstall scripts for 4627, 5849, and 5933

Proposed changes from v1.5 to v2.0

    * Alt. Debug Dash
    * Alt. ShadowC Placement options (F:\ and G:\)
    * NKP SOG support (possibly incompatable with debug)
    * More Debug BIOSes/Loaders
    * Ndure for PC Support

Please note that v2.0 will not happen any time soon.  I am incredibly busy, GCSEs are catching up with me.

Umm I've read this whole thread and it's half confused me. Can I get this working with an already installed Ndure v1.1 and have it as dual-boot (eject specifically). If so can someone walk me through it please?

I need to get the debug bios running on my machine and I don't know where to start really.

All you have to do is read the instructions it comes with, and run the installer from the disk.  It will do exactly what you want, provided you choose the right options.  And yes, it works on NDure 1.1.

Here is the manual install package.

I can link to it, becasue it contains no XDK code or XDK files.  NKPatcher and PBL are compiled without the use of the XDK.  You will have to supply your own BIOS, and I suggest not using my dashboard.xbx re-write.  I can't remember if it works.  Just use your own.

I haven't looked at this in months, so I honestly can't remember if it uses the most up to date method, and bear in mind this was designed for XDK 4627.

It only works with NDure., no matter which install method you choose.

As for the manual install, I packaged that up ages ago, so I just checked it.  Do NOT use it.  Looks like that was the original principle which involved multiple NKPatchers and loading the XDK from a shadowC, which has now been abandoned, with the discovery that XDK's Xboxdash.xbe is not actually needed.

I may see if I can come up with a working manual package which can be freely distributed later.

It doesn't have a config file so it only loads what e:\dashboard.xbx tells it (you can edit it in a hex editor) which is by default c:\xshell.xbe.

You're better off not using it at all.  It's the old process which was scrapped before the installer which means the manual install doesn't actually work.  I released it ages ago to see if I could get other people to make suggestions as to how to get it to work.

Well why not just rearrange the files, you don't need the xdk dash really. Put PBLMetoo in altdash and set krayzies to dual-altdash mode. Have ind-bios.cfg load up their normal dashboard. Then it's running the debug bios with their dash.

DASH1=\Device\Harddisk0\Partition1\Dashboard\default.xbe

As well as change
CODE
USEXBX=1
to
CODE
USEXBX=0

After you've done this, look for multi-boots in the extras menu and set it to dual-altdash. Turn your xbox off then back on using the eject button.

Whoops my bad about the xbdm.ini. Download XIG2 from the usual places, it has xbdm.ini in it.

Now can you tell me what softmod you have and what xbox version? Also tell me exactly what you did.

So now if you've set it up right, it should boot to the debug-bios using the eject button. I hope you realise there is no XDK dashboard, it will say Loading Ind-Bios then go blank, then boot upto XBMC with the debug bios running

Hi guys i have been trying to install xdk on my box for a while but am having a problem. my xbox is a ver 1.0 and softmodded using krayzies ndure installer and running unleashx as my dash. I have the xdk ver 5849. i followed hydras info on how to get the dash files out of the recovery exe. i then proceeded to transfer the files to the xbox (only the ones he said in his tutorial) then i installed the adoubeur loader (without changing anything in his cfg file) when i reboot the xbox and run the loader it starts to load and then give me an error msg 13 telling me that something is wrong with the dashboard files. i am completly lost can anyone help me?
thanks.

Have you got dashboard.xbx in E:\ and xshell.xbe in c:\?

Did you copy over the media folder to c:\?

Is it just the media folder from the original 5960 dash?  If it doesn't contain certain font file (I'm sure they are just .ttf's) in C:\Media\ it will give you error 13.

Also, check that all your .xip's are there.

Yeah, I'd love to give this a go as well if I could get ahold of the files. Has it made it to Xbins? or do you need seeders for the different trackers?

is it possible to run this like an app? eg, I use XBMC as main dash but if i want to load unleashX I go in to apps and run it from there.

also can it be used with the splinter cell pal softmod (sid 3.1)?

No, and no.

Also, development of the installer as a standalone project has ceased.

Something more may come of this in the future, but until then...
