Post by: Kymotsu on April 17, 2005, 11:09:00 AM
Apparently my brother removed the folder xodash from the c drive. So now right after the logo screen it gets an error. It wont boot with a game in it either, still gets the same error screen. help would be appreciated

This thread is going nowhere ....
But your xbox can probably be safed fairly easily.
- On the error screen, look top left, It has a numeber between 1 and 21.
- Look for original c: files 'somewhere' (Yup ... it's on Xbins, can be extracted from SLayers 2.6 disc)
- READ BOTH CAREFULLY, INCLUDING ALL RESPONSES IN THE ORIGINAL THREADS.
- Get c: files , hotswap, use xboxhdm, done.

And this, my fellow XS member, is just about the weirdest thing ever seen on XS.
"won't wont play retailed games" " i cant play backups"
So ... what CAN you do with that Xbox ...?

i understood it this way:
since the removal of the x0dash folder it doesn't boot retail games any more.
it has no chip ("only" softmodded) so now it also doesn't boot any bootdisc or similar that can be used to fix it...
..or am i wrong and he was indeed talking BS?

just so you guys know, when softmod boxes, i delete the xodash folder anyways because its a waste of space. the only purpose it serves is for xbox live. an xbox will boot just fine without it.

Hey Av,
I re-read the entire thread several times on purpose (as I tend to read to fast and make weird responses) and if I read the original post ..... his troubles start after his brother (rule no.1: Blame someone else <chuckle) deleted the xodash stuff.
Boots to an errorscreen, won't boot anything.
But after re-re-reading it again, you might be right ....
And in case Kymotsu reads this : Don't get discouraged. I'm no native English speaker, I might have understood wrong. Don't think we're here to make fun of you. Most of us are good guys, most of the guys are even better guys ;)
Give me that error message and I'll make a step-by-step for you to make up =)
N.B. I WILL make it, but it's 11PM here, so you might need some patience, on the other hand, reading the tut's in my original reply will prolly help out as well. (should be read by all visiting this section anyway tmho)

I'm pretty sure he messed up something besides the xodash folder.. Lok closely before assuming replacing that folder will solve your problem..

I've messed up some cdrives (softmod) real bad at times, and they always boot to a retail game.
Is there anything that can be done to the cdrive(other than removing the partition or some other horrible thing) that could cause a retail game to fail on boot?
I was under the impression that when you boot to a retail game, the cdrive isn't needed/read at all.
